Fluval 07 Filter Cleaning & Maintenance How To | 107 207 307 407
In this video I show how to completely clean and maintain the Fluval 07 range of external canister filter. I clean the media inside, the canister itself, the impeller and pipework. Fluval 07 range are incredibly easy to clean.

Actually if you smash that bio ring open legit there are no holes. They are only on bubble holes. They are really not the best. A nice cheap long lasting replacement is lava rock. Got a 6lb bag at my local hardware store for 7 bucks, 5 years ago. It's is one of the best medias you can use I think.

Excellent explanation but the first step in shutting off the water and disconnecting the tubes from the canister is paramount. All the other videos skipped this part causing many people to incorrectly disconnect the tubes causing a watery mess on the floor. My only constructive criticism is to use standing fresh treated water instead of the dirty debris filled water in your bucket. Thanks again for a well explained video and I am happy to subscribe.

I tend to use the tank water as tap water stand or not, it has chemical which the fish do not like. Also we not meant to clean the water too much hence we only suck up 40%.

@chris patton I am late to this conversation but he specified using fresh treated water, which would be dechlorinated if it's treated, hence removing the change that it would kill beneficial bacteria

One thing worth mentioning is that if your water level is not right for the tank, the filter will not run correctly. I had an inch to low on the water and the filter wouldn't prime properly. This is good to know for cleaning and resetting the filter too. If you siphon too much water and don't replace enough you'll run into that issue. Great video!

few comments dude, empty filter water down sink, then use clean water from tank to clean sponges all your doing is adding more poop to your sponges other wise, flow bottom up so replace fine white sponge after black sponge in bottom or use fine filter floss, then put more fine floss in 2nd at the bottom then fill with your bio media all the way to the top that leaves your 3rd tray for more extra bio like siporax [great stuff] then also for any chemo that you may need, you'll have a more efficient filter, personallly i have eheim'''s lol great vid otherwise thumbs up.

I did not understand why he didn't clean and replace the fine white filter pad, it's better than that floss... (just needed cleaned) I was also thinking how much room there was for more media. But I think I'll go back to the classic Eheim myself, Simple and efficient.

I know this is a few years old but this is so helpful. I kept tryna clean it as usual and for some darn reason when I put it back together it would just spit a bunch of junk back into the aquarium. Turns out a part of it was clogged and I wasn't accessing it properly. Very frustrating process, just did a 50% water change for the discus and now I have to do another 50% water change bc the filter (after I had already taken it apart and rinsed it out) decided it need to spew out a bunch of clogged crap into the aquarium. Putrid, but this video makes me feel better bc I clearly didn't know what the hell I was doing 🤣😆

Came here for 1:25 because who actually reads directions? Also reading the comments about pond guru's video on the 07 series and packing more media into the filter. You do realize he sells the biological media, right? Yes, it's really good stuff, but it isn't cheap. You want cheap, go with Cory from co-op's way and add a sponge filter onto the intake tube. You'll get biological and mechanical, plus it's cheap. And fish fry and shrimp won't get sucked up.

I had been using a 307 for about 7 months now.. I found that that red bracket with the blue sponge pre filter is taking up too much space. I rather have more space for the bio media. Now that I'm using a sponge as a pre filter at the in take strainer, the blue sponge is now useless only taking up space.. this 307 is also not as effective as to polish the water as now I'm using another internal filter with polyfill to do the job.. the current space for the bio media is not quite enough as its install in a 65G tank.. I had to find other ways to put in more bio media.. Overall.. 307 is just a little too small for the stated up to 65G tank.. The flow of 1100L/ h is quite alright just it will be perfect if the pre filter area in the cannister can be modified to be use for more bio media.. Thanks.. Like to hear what others think about it!!

You’re media setup is a lot less than mine, I’ve nearly added the maximum amount of media allotted in the space and for the amount of fish/plants in my 55g. I’ve followed a bi-weekly rinse of everything then added back. Some gets changed every 4 weeks which I’ve split up into a 2 week cycle to limit the amount of media changes at once.
