Barry and Carol!! My knights in shining armor! Thank you for your kind words and all your support over the years. I’m sure we can find reasons to complain about anything in life, but the fact is our fisheries here in PA and probably NY also are very healthy, our sport is growing and the human traffic pressure on these streams do not directly impact the population of the fish negatively. A very small percentage of fisherman are successful up at the Upper Delaware and most of the boaters drift right by thousands of fish that aren’t even targeted and if most or everyone is releasing their catch then no harm. It’s a shame some people think of these public waterways as theirs and selfishly want no one else to enjoy them. They should count their blessings how often some of them can fish these great waters, visiting anglers usually can only enjoy them a few days or even just a few hours. And I’m sure all the gas stations, convenience stores, sandwich shops, restaurants, fly shops, fishing guides and motels enjoy more business from the visitors. The increased traffic is always expected in April, May and June every year, that’s just the nature of the sport, but since these waters are influenced by tailwaters, it makes them year round fisheries but the fishermen are not even a real issue the rest of the year. The 50+ miles of trout water throughout the Upper Delaware River system is not harmed in the least by me highlighting small sections in my videos, there’s so much room up there to explore, but like other streams, most people flock to the easy access areas, which still doesn’t harm the fish, actually makes them smarter and tougher to catch, which I can appreciate. To get along, we all have to respect other’s rights and share the public resource and be happy that everyone is trying to enjoy this great sport which when practicing C&R is self sustaining. I’m also a hunter, but unlike fishing, once you kill you game, it’s dead, gone, not a resource that others can enjoy over and over, be thankful we have that with fly fishing. So I kindly ask everyone to “tolerate” us visiting anglers for the few days or few hours we like to share your beautiful public waters and catch a few fish and release them so you can play with them most other times.

@@pawoodsnwater7551 Last year I caught a 14" smallmouth in the channel (actually standing in my backyard) on opening day of trout season. I've seen some very big walleye caught down in junction pool and know that stripers make it up that far. I booked a float from cross current on the 12th and will probably DIY the next couple of days after.

Hi Richard! Well first you gotta understand, I build my tandem rig from from heaviest fly up top to lightest fly on the bottom, I place my splitshot above my top fly. I don’t initially fish the water column, I present all my flies on the bottom in a row as they’re coming down through the drift, then on the swing and the hang they go through the water column and at the end of the drift on the hang, you’d be surprised how many fish I catch just on the hang. I’m using the exact same leader setup as I always use, Wulff Triangle Taper floating line then my 50” Cutthroat Furled Shorty dry fly leader, then 3ft of 4x Flouro, then 2ft of 5x Flouro then my tandem rig, or when dry fly fishing I add 3ft more of 5x or 6x. The video for my Isonychia/Big Brown or Ginger Nymph is back in November 2018, on the ginger I use the Yellow Lively Legz w/flakes a ginger ostrich herl for the abdominal gill rib and ginger ostrich herls for the tail, you can still use brown for the tail also. @@michaelzobrist8846 Hi Michael! The EB is not above Deposit, it runs from Downsville Resevoir all the way down to Hancock, I was fishing closer to Hancock. It runs for about 20 miles. The Beaverkill joins it , but in the Summer months the warmer water from the BK makes it not trout fishable but above the junction it’s ok because it’s a tailwater release from Downsville. @@tced2858 I’m only using one tippet ring that came on the furled leader, I don’t like using them, I feel they’re unnecessary, I’ve only used double surgeons knots to connect sections to each other without any problems. Well my tandem rig may start out in total a little longer than 3ft but after I change flies several times, it’ll be shorter, my tippet sections between flies start out 15-16” apart but I’ll let them get down to 12” before replacing them. You are absolutely 100% wrong. In the 25-30 years I’ve been fishing the Upper Delaware, the fishing for me has only gotten better, the little bit of increased fishing after a video is minimal for a week or so. I have never gone back to any stream since I’ve been doing videos where I couldn’t fish it that day because of too many guys. That Upper Delaware system is so underfished with literally 50+ miles from all three waterways even with drift boats, I don’t like fishing through the boat traffic but they float by sooo many fish in reality. Maybe if you live up there you’re all butt hurt because you gotta adapt and share this public water with others, but for the average fly fisherman, he gets to enjoy this great area for a very short time and releasing everything he catches not hurting the fish population in the least. The only times I’ve seen anyone keep a fish is a local bait fishing. My videos are for my viewers to show them how to catch more fish traditionally on a fly, have more fun, show them the potential and give people hope to stick with it and learn more to become better at their craft. My old video, the absolute only video I ever took down, I did so because of my contacts and friends I have up in the area, I didn’t do it for the fish. That video was put out the second week of December when most all brownie spawning is long over but many of the fish are still up in the same spawning areas for several weeks just hanging around until they migrate back. That’s the same as why many guys go out to Montana the second or third week in May after they open the tribs to the big streams for fishing because many of the lunkers are still up in the tribs until they return to the bigger water. If every single fly fisher is releasing all their catch there’s no harm to the fish. And don’t go and talk about the redds because I’ve never heard of one single local pleading their case for the rainbow spawning season, I never hear a peep about the rainbow’s spawning. The only pushback from that video was from 4-5 locals compared to over 3K views in a couple days and 150 likes and no harm to the fish and I bet only a handful of guys went up to fish there in December. By the increased boat traffic I’m assuming the only people benefiting $ from my videos are the guides and the motels which I don’t get anything from them, you’re welcome! Just because you live around there and get to fish the area more than most, don’t think you care more about that fishery or are more righteous in your intentions. You know even with videos and books and articles and podcasts about the Upper Delaware trout fishing , there’s no guarantee for success up there, but for many just catching a few fish up there is a great feeling. The increased fishing pressure is expected “in season” but a lot of my videos are in the dead of Winter or in the heat of Summer, out of season which has even less affect on the stream traffic during those months. I thank you for posting your opinions and feelings and was happy to share mine. If this thread gets ugly I will delete it, so please keep it respectful. Thank you.

Making a series of videos that explicitly show accesses, name drop rivers, that are titled in such a manor to draw more attention to the places and question and passing it off as “being helpful” to everyone isn’t. There is a time and a place for helping others in fishing, however it does not need to be done this way. There are other ways to create content designed to demonstrate something that can be shared on KZfaq/Social media that don’t go the route of exploitation. Of course people are going to disagree with my comments above and say I’m wrong and that what PA Woods and Water posts is a good thing. That’s largely in part because he shares where he fishes, and some of these places aren’t exactly the easiest to experience how good they can be. It’s one thing to read about a place in a book, it’s another to actually go out on your own and experience it for yourself and put the pieces together. Most people will go where they have always done well before. The resources already exist to find water and discover and figure things out for yourself, there doesn’t need to be more. Some places can do without attentional attention as not everywhere can handle the onslaughts of angling pressure, nor does anyone like crowded rivers. With attention, eventually comes the wrong kind of attention.

Just because you can go somewhere, make videos about it for clicks and likes and to hand out tons of information on a silver platter for thousands of people in an instant doesn’t mean you should do it. It’s a shame the concern for even friends and locals is limited to a certain time of year, and more a shame there’s even less thought given to the precious resources that we are lucky to have on a year around basis. You would think that someone of your age would understand, having lived more years before the internet was created than most. There was a time where information was coveted and only given and received with discernment and respect for our resources and I don’t know why you think that was such a bad thing.

Theres plenty of water for all to fish...just enjoy the resource
