Join me as I kayak down the Bronx River, exploring the hidden gems of nature in the heart of New York City. I paddled the Bronx River Blueway through the Bronx River Forest, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Botanical Garden. Tackled some challenges along the 8 mile journey, but experienced the rarely seen beauty of the Bronx. Don't forget to subscribe for more epic adventures!
Shout out to the @BronxRiverAlliance for working hard to keep this waterway clean!

As someone who volunteers with the Bronx River Alliance, we appreciate you trying to clean the river, but trying to drag those things out is quite a dangerous feat. Be careful. If you want to support our cause as we clean the river constantly come on by and visit us down at Starlight Park. And don’t worry the water is not as dangerous as you think it is just don’t drink it :-)

When I did this paddle a dozen years ago or so, it was a weekend day in the summer. Although we had the river to ourselves, there were plenty of visitors in the Bronx Zoo. As we made our way across the two-waterfall portage (19:30 in your video), the visitors - who were some distance way behind a fence, but who nevertheless had a view of the river - were looking at us like we were animals in the Zoo.

I love seeing what folks have done to clean up the Bronx River. Frustrating they have to, and have to keep doing it. But it's amazing that you can do this now. I don't think you could have done it a decade or two ago. I guess pulling scooters & bikes out is better than the whole cars and whatnot they were pulling out in the early days of restoration. Great video. What an amazing thing to have in the heart of the city. I'd like to make more use of similar bits of nature in the city where I live. We're making progress on cleaning up our waterways in the Washington DC region, too. But there's a lot of work to be done. They don't make those portages easy. Jeez.

Hello Matt, I have to say this is great video. I moved to the Bronx in 98 and fish regularly in the river. A little past West Farms the water becomes brackish and somewhat tidal. Sound view/Hunts Point. From the zoo to W.F. has some really nice fish (large mouth bass) although the river is very narrow and fast moving in a few spots. I've had a few sketchy moments where the water gets chest deep and footing on the bottom gets dicey. Sad to see all the scooters & bikes in the water. I've pulled out a few dozen in the past few years. I recently saw a documentary about the Bronx River on KZfaq that was amazing. The clean up program has definitely brought the river back to life. Thanks for sharing your video. Gladly gets the 👍

You should perhaps get a wheel kit, and definitely upgrade your paddle.. makes a huge difference if your paddle is a nice lightweight one. That bit of white water was like class one and wasn’t dangerous, a helmet is still a good plan though, just in case you do actually capsize. Thanx for the tour! Cheers
@TwoFeetOutdoors
@TwoFeetOutdoors 2 күн бұрын
I agree about the class one but there were a lot of rocks and water at the launch area was moving fast. Also, it I wasn't carrying a mic, camera and other important electronics through, it would be a bit of a different story. Also, in that area, you are completely walled off from access, so if I did have an issue, nobody would know or see me.

THE WATER LOOKS FILTHY, WOW..

Its muddy, and has floating debris, but its pretty clear water .. Filthy water I would use to describe contaminated chemical water , like we had back in the 70's . There are some pretty hefty fines for any company dumping into the river . I would not swim in it, but I bet it does not have a bad smell at all on most of those stretches.

@@jefffromjersey52 IN THE VIDEO, IT SHOWS A BOOM WITH TONS OF DEBRIS STUCK BEHIND IT.. AND ALL THOSE ELECTRIC SCOOTERS OR LEACHING HEAVY METALS INTO THE WATER. SMELL ALONE DOES NOT DETERMINE CLEAN WATER

Another nice video! I lived in Manhattan for a while, and I think I can pass on the Bronx River paddle. While cool, that amount of trash and the sounds of the city would 1,000% ruin it for me - the juice certainly isn't worth the squeeze. I can only imagine the looks people must have given you during your portage!

I will say, the Bronx River Forest, the New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo were really cool. The whole thing was an adventure but those were nice natural areas. Thank you for watching.

I couldnt see where your kayak went when you put everything over the fence at the portage.Surely it couldnt collapse ito your backpack..could it? Also kudos for recognizing your skill level! your skill level

Maybe think about a drone with your equipment?, you can look ahead in unknown waters.

Omg, I definitely want a drone to enhance the channel. I'm currently operating on one camera, one cellphone, a mic and a computer. I really want a drone.

@TwoFeetOutdoors Great video!!! Sadly about 4-5 years ago during the summer months two teens lost their lives on the waterfall that you climbed the gates. If you look at the video around the 32:56 minute mark, you can see that that area of the waterfall forms a pool/lake where you can actually swim (and my understanding that is some what deep around there) and the two teens some how drowned in that section. I a local resident from the Bronx not too far from the 180th St waterfall. Stay safe out there - CityAdvenTours
