Fly Fishing from the Shore at Strawberry Reservoir (Utah Fishing Tips)

For those of you who like fly fishing, this video is for you! Every fish I catch in this video, was caught on a dry fly with a fly rod. FUN STUFF!

A couple of years ago my father caught the biggest fish he'd ever caught in his life, using spoon lures from the Strawberry dam at dusk. This was a huge spawning cutthroat the likes of which neither of us had seen before. I wish I'd had a better camera back then, I could have gotten better pictures. People love boats, but I've caught countless quality trout from the shores of numerous central and northern Utah reservoirs.

Planning a trip and will be going through Utah around October 4-5th. Definitely wanna try this lake but wanna maximize my time out there. What area of the lake do you reccomend for that time of year?

I see how you rigged up the fly with the bubble...I thought you wanted the fly to float on top of the surface?

Yep! The bubble is just so you have some weight to cast the fly out. The fly will still float it you put some floatant on it.

A few questions: This video is shot in July...when fly fishing from the shore in the fall, would you still use a Hopper pattern? Curious what the name of that pattern is that you are using?(There's a lot of Hopper options, but I've never seen anything like yours). Are there any other patterns you use from the shore?

Thank you! I would give the hopper a shot, but I'm not sure how well it would do. I would try a white streamer. I can't remember the name of the hopper pattern, unfortunately, but I order them from a guy who owns a fly shop in Oregon. Text me if you want his number: 8014713739
