Hatch windows are tight with spring mayfly hatches. March brown mayflies are notoriously short hatches daily and early blue-winged olives spurt and sputter. In this video we share our filming from 4 days targeting rising rainbow trout mid-afternoon.

Hand warmers are a must on these days. In your pockets. Makes changing flys easier

Being on a camera or rod most of the time leaves little opportunity for warm ups, but a good thing to try remember to bring with for sure. 😊

@@jensenflyfishing on some colder days I wear my snowmobile gloves “which are thin water proof gloves” and leave the warmers inside them. Also do this ice fishing. Makes for more enjoyable days when walking to the next rise or pool. it’s hard but yet rewarding time of the year.

Loved this one, as it remind me of my favourite river in Norway. Rena river has got great hatches of the BWO, and I am especially found of the second generation hatch in the autumn, It happens at the same time as the Ignita hatch, and sometimes its more bugs than water 🙂 Beautiful work, both in front and bihind he camera. Thanks again!

There is nothing like these days, these hatches, the low light... and autumn. There is something about that, isn't there? It was tough to capture everything we'd hope for while also engaging a couple of fishbeach day. 15 to 45 minutes doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. These are the wonderful windows 😊

Great video. One of m y favorites. Btw, which jacket is Dave wearing? Also, do you believe that bright colored hats or jackets will “spook” fish? Keep up the amazing work.

It was good to blend a short video with 3 other days to drive home how short these hatches can be :) That's the Orvis Ultralight jacket. And no, so long as your approach is good color really doesn't matter so much as reflectivity - aka white on a sunny day! :)

What would y’all say is good weather for prospecting or sighting, because I’m kind of confused when it comes to that. Thanks
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 8 ай бұрын
Hiya. With open back drops, sunny days are best for sighting as cloudy day glare is terrible to see INTO the water. With bushy waters and high contrast between shade and sun spots, cloudy days are often better - easier to use the bush backdrop as a sighting window INTO the water. But in all cases if there are insect hatches, the general guideline is that cloudy days bring the best mayflies; sunny days the best stonefly and caddis and terrestrials for looking for rising trout. So I guess it mostly depends on how much you can see in the water or see smudges
@jensenflyfishing
@jensenflyfishing 8 ай бұрын
@@DawsonandOliverangles on glared water as in this video are massive in regards to what you can see into, so too bushy back drops on others. When in doubt, patience allows trout to reveal themselves ❤

Wonderful video. What type of camera gear are you using for this conditions?
@jensenflyfishing

We use the same gear for all conditions - rain or sunshine. The close up work was our Lumix GH6 with a 75 -300 mm lens. The in-camera / on the rod is a GoPro Hero 9.

Maybe a dumb question, but if the mayflies are 'stuck' waiting for their wings to dry, is there benefit in fishing a larger size than the naturals to act as a prefered choice for the trout amongst their choices?

To a point - and that's slightly how and why (crippled) emergers are tied the way they are. But that leads to discussion of emergers, crippled emergers, crippled duns, duns... The kind of discussion we dive into at our Patreon Membership page :) www.patreon.com/jensenflyfishing

There is, but it really depends on when you'll be there and exactly where. It would help you to pick up a copy of the Alberta Fishing Guide magazine. It has maps and some descriptions of waters. Be sure to check regs for what is open and when. All the best.
