A little variant of an Al Beatty pattern with quite a few good techniques for larger Dun mayflies. A good pattern that floats well, gives a natural footprint and can be twitched to stimulate takes.

Thank you Mr Barry Ord Clarke. I made a copy of this fly. It was a succes in the Kill the corona fly tying contest. You gave me the inspiration to make the fly. There were many tries before i was happy with it. Thank you for your tyingvideos. If you want to se it it was nr 28. Best regards Patrick Hedberg Avesta Sweden.

This is a very elegant variant, Barry. From time to time, I read comments on tying demonstrations pointing toward ars gratia artis when they incorporate realism. Your knack for capturing impressionism is uncanny. When experienced tyers and fly fisherman are wow'ed, you're on the right path.

Great tying, great fly, perfect representation of fly tying in that: various materials used all perfectly suited for each segment of the fly, various techniques applied, 'realistic', it will fish well (I'm sure to find out). Solid all round. Thanks Barry. You're the man.

A tip I got watching Kelly Galloup that helped me tremendously with deer hair heads and may help someone else. Tie a stacked collar in first, with the ends already cut so it is seperate from the hair you put for the head. Makes it much easier to get the collar sitting correctly and makes it much easier to not accidentally cut if off. You can then trim tips off the spinning hair so you dont mix it up. Also makes for a cleaner head with no thread seperation as the thread from the collar is hidden under the hair

@@Thefeatherbender I was wondering what video you had that you mentioned in this one where you said you gave further instructions/guide on making wings? I couldnt find anything like that when I searched or scrolled through your channel. Was curious how you get your wings so pointed. Is it the difference between mallard and wood duck feathers or something specific you do? As for the hair topic from my original comment, you make hair spinning and trimming look so simple but it is the one thing I really struggle with! Love your videos and your books keep up the good work.
@Thefeatherbender

@@ThatSB The video is 'Wally Wing Dun' No difference between mallard and wood duck only wood duck is smaller and yellowish. All you do to get the pointed wings is to squeeze the finished wings so they become pointed.

@Thefeatherbender thank you! Ironically my mallard feathers are smaller than my wood duck feathers so I decided to stick with wood duck. I need to order some higher quality mallard anyway. Thanks for the response

@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeff, LOL, No, It happens to the best of us, I was using 14/0 tying thread and I was a little frightened of applying too much pressure on the thread and breaking it. But I made a good recovery... The wing should remain on top of the hook shank and the but ends should spin and form a muddler head.

This is absolutely the high water mark in fly tying. I was relieved when you trimmed off all the fibres under the fly. This one really tested me. Sorry to report SIX interruptions for ADS. I know that's not your setting, Barry. You can insist that there be just one before, one during, and one after. Your vids never used to be so comprehensively blighted.
