Being the most prolific terrestrial on just about every river and still water, this extremely simple but effective parachute ant will not only float high and dry, but tick all the boxes for ant feeding trout no matter where you are.

Barry...I would love to see your rendition of a gray Rs2 or what we call a cheesman emerger...these two are hands down the best fall droppers here for browns and basically whatever... cut bows, cuts,rainbows etc... All the best...t

Do you always strip one side off the hackel when you tie parashuthackels Barry. Or do you alvays strip one side on all your hackelflies. Exellent flies by the way. Mvh Pekka

Beautiful ant. Might be a challenge to tie on the 16s/18s I use on my local river but I've got 4 months to get it right ;-)

Thanks Colm, It's not difficult in those sizes to tie, the difficult bit is finding ostrich herl in the right size.

What's your preferred bobbin for midges and other small flies?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, I use one bobbin to tie the all! As with whip finish tools, I don't believe that having smaller or larger bobbins make any difference in the size of fly you tie.

I’m curious, on all of the top fly tying channels I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen presenters use their rotary vice function. Is that because you know your audience likely doesn’t have a rotary vice, or because you simply don’t use it often?
@Thefeatherbender
@Thefeatherbender 3 жыл бұрын
Hi EFY, Interesting that you have noticed this. I would actually find it a little difficult to tie without it. I use my rotary all the time, when its an advantage to use it, in this particular pattern I had no use for it. I could have used it here for the herl work but then I would ideally, have had to use a bobbin cradle and when I am filming a bobbin cradle gets in the way. But I use it always for, dubbing, palmer and collar hackle, silk and floss bodies...
