Fly Tying: Hot wire Prince

6 жыл бұрынI fell in love with the Hot Wire Prince a few years back on a fishing trip where my friends and I did an awful hike into a remote river. I was catching the lease amount of fish and I didn't have anything close to what my friends were fishing so I tied on a hot wire prince, it ended up saving the day and since then I've played around with the colors and had lots of success with it.
Materials I used in the video:
Hook: 3xl Natural Bend Nymph hook (Size: 14)
Bead: 2.5mm (copper color)
Lead: .015 lead wire
Thread: Danville 70 Denier Flymaster Plus (Hot Orange)
Tail: Brown Goose Biots
Body: Brassie Ultra Wire (Red/Silver)
Thorax: Peacock herl
Hackle: Brown Hen Neck
Wing: White Goose Biots
Music by: Jason Shaw

I like how you cut a little extra on the biots, fold it back and lock it in with thread. That’s a good idea.

yes size 10 even larger and using black and orange etc. to represent stone flies.

Awesome! I've wanted to try them larger but never really have. I hear big ones are good for high water since they drop like a lead brick. I'll have to try it.

If you don't like having the cut biot butts above your wings you can tie the wings in points forward(over the bead), trim the butts then use your thumbnail to crimp the biots into place before putting fown your last thread wraps.

Skyler - what hook and size do you generally tie?

Hi Monica, I really like these in 14s and 12s though my go to is 14, however I would fish them in other sizes as well if the situation called for it. The hook I am using is a Dai-Riki #270, its similar to a Tiempco 200R. Hope that helps, if you have any other questions feel free to ask, thanks!

I'm blessed to have two great fly shops near my house, but if I can't get something through them I sometimes go online as well. For harder to find materials I shop at competitiveangler.com

What sizes do you usually tie?

14 is my go to size, though I wouldn't hesitate to to down to a 16, and in the spring I would probably go up to a 12, maybe a 10 but I think 12-16 would be a good range.
