I live near an airport and I just used your video to unlock my Auth. Zone. Awesome. Tonight I'll take a nice little flight to see all the Christmas lights in my neighborhood. Brand new to drones. This was my first “Unauthorized” area encountered. A definite pain to go through all this… not something I would have figured out on my own. I am now keeping my flight controller serial number handy. Thanks

Unfortunately there is no self unlock now, you have to request permission

I also happen to live smack dab on a restricted flight path. No way will I ever be a hazard with my little Mini. So glad that you explained how I obtain an exemption.

I normally use the DJI or Kittyhawk app after my mini does it’s preflight check. Takes like 2 minutes. This is great for taking care of the request in advance. Thank you!

just wish I had known ahead of time that I'd be in an area that I'd be unable to take off in. Now, I know I can check that map and it will let me know in advance so I can request it ahead of time. super helpful. my old mavic pro (which I still have) never kept me from taking off in these areas so I never had to worry about it. that's always the problem with new technology, they put new "safety" features which really just means restrictions on there to can be super annoying.

All though i'm very frustrated with DJI locking down my Mavic Pro 2 with aggressive geofencing...I get why and thank you for making time to share this video. There are other drone options now with very comparable features in camera tech and ability that have zero geofencing.

I am pretty positive that this isn't enough. You need to register your drone with the FAA and get ATC authorization for that airport through LAANC. You are making people think they just click this and click that and you are good to go. People need to understand there are laws and limits to how you can fly your drone in those airspaces. I am pretty sure you would be fined if you were caught flying in that zone without getting ATC authorization which is not the same as checking a box that says "I got authorization" on that app

I just got a DJI mini and it would not fly in my own back yard, because of an air base about a mile away. I contacted DJI tech support and a chat agent walked me through the authorization request process. He also expedited the request, and within 10 minutes or so I had it working. But it is still a real pain and I think it should default to not requiring permission in a residential neighborhood especially a 249g drone that is essentially a toy. EDIT: when it asked to upload "documentation", chat agent suggested I upload a blank document so I created a PDF that just said "back yard" or something, and it allowed me to continue the application. Just in case anyone else runs into this problem!

The Fly Safe website has changed since this video was made. I can't get it to unlock for more than one day at a time.

I had this issue and your video helped me. Thank you. And I just figured out I can also make these request via my DJI RC PRO controller as long as I have it connected via Wi-Fi which I use my hotspot for. I was able to request and get authorization and fly within minutes.

If you have internet on the device connected to the controller when you are about to fly, you should be able to self-unlock right on the screen. Make sure you are properly logged in to your DJI account on your app before trying to fly.

Thanks you so much!! I live approximately 2 miles "as the crow flies" from John Glenn International Airport. In the last 2 years, I know of 3 times that the No Fly Zone has changed. Just this past spring 2020, I had no problem flying around my neighborhood. The first snow of the season happened early last week. I got my Mavic 2 Pro all updated, batteries charged, landing pad ready and went outside to take off - unable to go anywhere. I took everything back into the house and got on the DJI FlySafe page (I have it bookmarked) and there it was - our home was just inside the Blue Authorization Zone. I am a register DJI customer and have my FAA ID. So, I will try your suggestion and see what happens. I will let ya know - Thanks, Charlie

Thanks for the video. I live in Tahlequah and work in McAlester every once in a while. I have had a couple DJI drones and switched to Autel because they don't have geo fencing. Wish DJI made it easier to drop the geo fencing.

Trying to set up my DJI account and while filling out the background certification the SMS never gets sent to my phone number. Not sure what to do now. Contacted DJI but heard nothing back yet. I live in an Altitude Zone so I'm assuming I will need to be able to use fly-safe to fly around my home, but can't without being able to verify my number! Frustrating...

Thanks! I ran into this problem yesterday. I always submit my flights via the AIRMAP app, and didn't get any restrictions on my flight from them. But when I took off DJI blocked the drone from advancing into a warning zone. It was weird...I took off in a clear zone, and once I hit the warning zone, the drone just stopped like it hit an invisible wall.

Hi, A strange situation I got when unlocking my Avata in an Airport Authorized zone. Every time I get the license and follow the steps to import it to the drone, motors start to spin for about 30 sec until stop. Going again to the DJI Fly app I have to repeat the previous steps, clicking the 2 boxes accepting full responsibility and the drone motors spin again for another 20/30/40 sec. until stop. What could be the problem?

Thanks so much Ben, you saved me a whole bunch of research. I was considering returning it to the store because I thought I was in an authorization zone that did not allow drones. It only took minutes to get it authorized. Now I’m not sure if I should fly with snow on the ground and temps around 30 degrees F. I have heard the lithium batteries don’t like cold temps.

Have new RC controller. Went through all of the steps and authorization was completed but “license” wouldn’t show up on the controller. How do you import and/or what do you import? You skipped that part. I ended up having to use my cell phone to unlock geo zone and fly with my phone. Completely defeated the purpose of buying the RC controller. Let me know, thanks!

I have three different DJI drones. Should I submit all three? I used to be able to get the SMS code on the fly so to speak. I guess the desktop app is the only way…. I can no longer unlock with just my phone.

This is awesome! I even saw they still support my Spark. I would have loved this ability when I was in Sioux Falls SD at the Falls Park. I just wanted to fly fairly low and get some footage of the falls. It happens to be just like your example and in the area of a small local airfield and therefore I was blocked. So, good to know for the future. I'll be able to contact the site I need the OK from, let them know I only intend to go xxx high and then I'll be able to unlock that area for the given time needed. Went to the website and logged in but it didn't look like what you show so at a dead end.

The only areas the drone locks is the red. The rest of the zones should let you fly but "with caution"

Good job. Needed to take a second look to get my bird to fly. I went through all the steps, got approval to unlock, but I could still not take off. The app kept telling me my aircraft was not connected, and I had no Internet connection. I was out in the field, how could I get an Internet connection. On my second look I realized I had skipped the “import” step. I went through the whole process again, got the approval, and I imported the license here at home where I have Internet. I’ll try again tomorrow. See if I can get my bird up. Thanks again.

Do you have any tips on how not to lose your Drone in the sky? You know once the drone Is in the sky it becomes transparent and you can no longer see the drown😮 do you know if they make a special skin or device to put on the drone so that you don't lose it
