I flew on a private Boeing 747-SP VIP Jet from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to Marana, AZ, USA. I was the only passenger traveling inside this $200 million flying palace private 747 jet.
Check out the luxurious interior of this ex head of state airplane in the video. Sit inside the cockpit and watch how the pilots fly the B747 classic. It was just an exhilarating and unbelievable experience flying on a B747-SP VIP plane in 2019.
For complete story of my flight, visit my blog: samchui.com/2019/10/13/flying...

I was on the first flight of the 747SP as a test engineer on July 4th, 1975 when I was in Boeing flight test (instrumentation). Our flight did not have quite the VIP treatment the king's aircraft had - in fact the interior didn't have walls or (real) seats. We had water barrels that were used to transfer the weight around the aircraft for control of the center of gravity, maybe ten or more instrumentation stations, six foot by 20 inch wide racks measuring everything the plane did during that first flight. I'm 79 now and was 32 during that flight and your video brought it all back, thanks Sam.

I was a Pan Am flight Attendant back in 1980 and always flew that same aircraft from JFK- TOKYO, JFK-RIO and SFO- HONG KONG . The upper deck galley in your video brought back many memories . It may interest you to know that Pan Am flight attendants gave input in the design of the original galleys . Nothing changed in the upper deck galley! 41 years later , the 747SP at Pan Am remains the most beautiful, luxurious aircraft flying the skies.

Was not sure what happened to her affter FLS Airospace at Stanstead Airport UK went bust in 2004! Great video, has brought back many memories of long hours crawling through her tight areas keeping her airworthy. Keep up the good work of showing these giants of the sky Sam!!!

A friend was involved with the interiors. All materials used in the aircraft's interior are natural, no synthetic fabrics were used. Unless it's been removed, an interesting feature not seen was a complete surgery in the cargo level. I was a Purser for American Airlines for over 20 years. AA had two of these and they retired them the year I started. The upper deck had a bar and lounge originally with a Rhodes electric grand piano in the middle of it. I'd love to be able to do that one more time. Those were the days!

Sam, I enjoyed this video. I’ve always had great affection for the amazing SP. I had an unforgettable journey on the Air Namibia SP and managed a jump seat for the final part of the flight into Windhoek. The aircraft, scenery and whole experience are indelible in my mind. It was magical.

Back in 1980, I had the opportunity to fly with PanAm non stop from San Francisco Intl. to Hong Kong´s Kai Tak Airport on that same B747 SP. That was the only 74 capable of flying directly without any stops along the Pacific. Depending on the weather conditions, PanAm would sometimes limit the payload so it could comply with takeoff performance for the runway in use at that moment. Many passengers were asked to stay at SFO with an excellent compensation that included an allowance, great hotel and meals and of course the right to leave on the next flight to HKG. Fantastic aircraft!

I loved the SP, it was the first plane that Qantas flew between USA and Australia non-stop. After a few hours into the flight when a meal had been served and cleanup done, the crew would have a break. There would be kind of a party at the rear galley, usually 5 - 10 people chatting and drinking. The crew allowed you to get your own drinks as you wanted them as long as you were no trouble. Did this trip several times on the SP, was about 15.5 hours Sydney to LAX, and about 17.5 hours coming back.

@@garethhancock8525 Prevailing winds, generally the wind around the earth flows from west to east, so flying west is generally slower than flying east. Here in Australia I live in Perth on the west coast, Sydney is on the east coast. The scheduled flight times Sydney to Perth is 4:55 and Perth to Sydney 4:05. I was once on a flight from here to Sydney with a very strong tail wind and we did it in 3:02.
