From what I understand is that they had to hurry to get the F 86 Saber ready very quickly made to compete against this Mig 17. am I wrong ?
@jkerman5113
@jkerman5113 4 жыл бұрын
@@oceanhome2023 Historically? Nah, the Sabre flew months before the MiG-15 did, the 17 came in too late to see combat in Korea, and by the end of Korea the Sabre was bloody good - with all the modifications, the F86 could even go supersonic! What you might be thinking of is the Second Taiwan Strait Crisis, where Taiwanese Sabres fought Chinese MiG-15s and 17s. The 17s had far superior performance to the Sabres, so the U.S rushed to give those Sabres the Sidewinder missile, and from that moment fourth the Sabre became a leading distributer of Chinese MiG-17 parts. (PS: Look up the Soviet K-13 missile, the story of it's creation boggles the mind). Now that I think about it you might be thinking of the MiG-15 over Korea - at the start of the Korean war the American and UN forces basically only fought North Korean propeller planes, and so didn't use their latest technology, leading to a hodgepodge of first-generation jet fighters being used in Korea - the F80, the De Havilland Vampire, even the WW2-era Gloster Meteor. As soon as the first MiGs arrived in Korea they outclassed everything we currently had there, so the US had to scramble to deliver a shipment of Sabres to Korea. Thanks for coming to my history lesson.

During the Korean War usually the saber pilots would shoot down the migs fairly quickly...These were North Korean pilots, some time they’d meet a good pilot and get into a tangle. Those were usually a Chinese pilot. Very rarely though the Sabre pilot would come across a MiG that was flown to its absolute envelope in speed and maneuvering capabilities equaling or even exceeding the sabres abilities. Those were soviet pilots. The airframe is as only as good as the meat servos training inside.

I remember reading about Robby Risner's accounting of a dogfight he got into with a Soviet Pilot. The Soviet was absolutely determined not to be shot down but Risner got him anyway and did it over the guy's own base.

The F-8 Crusader was known as the "Last of the Gunfighters" because it was the last plane to have guns on it. The F-4 was only armed with missiles for air to air combat. The services realized the mistake and created gun pods that would attach to the hard points. Eventually cannons were added. There's a famous graphic of a pilot with a tear drop and the caption "When you're out of F-8's, you're out of fighters."

The Russian word has not been used for a long time as a blink. About a century since 17. Common Slavic word of Indo-European nature. In Persian we find miz - “eyelid”, in Dutch - micken (“look”), in Lithuanian miegas (“dream”). Initially - "closing of the eyelids, blinking." Modern significance has evolved in the brevity of blinking. To the same basis go back to blink, a moment, to adjoin. Etymological Dictionary of Krylov Modern meaning - A very short period of time; instant. But of course with regard to the aircraft, this is a pure coincidence.

To be fair, I would have flipped him off too after the second thumbs up went unanswered. Good on you for having some balls, and as an F-86 Sabre fan, your Mig-17 is gorgeous. Edit: Oh shit, I actually forgot that I already commented on this video. Oh well, my point still stands. Edit two: being the bad guy is acutually pretty fucking cool. Otherwise, aggressor squadrons wouldn't have the allure that they do. Stay safe, but fly aggressively, my friend. Hit me up for some stuff from one of our nations AGRS units. I'll ask for some stuff to verify you, but it'll come free of charge. In the meantime, keep throwing up the international peace sign when the thumbs up is ignored from fellow fighter pilots. PM me, and we'll work it it. Fly well, Disco Dan

FWIW, seeing the MiG-17 flying from the pilot's POV is special. I was personally a part of one of the QF-4E's last shoot downs. Seeing one of its opponents airworthy and actively being flown means something to me. My grandpa was in Korea during most of the war, so seeing F-86 Sabres means something to me as well, but the MiG-17 squared off against my F-4E's on many occasions, so thank you for doing this video.

Normal. Reaction times to inputs in these jets are low because of a multitude of reasons. I guess the stick inputs are possibly being relayed hydraulically. If a light aircraft with direct linkages, you can use a bit of intuition - the control surfaces get harder to move as airspeed increases. So without reference to airspeed you can tell if the airspeed is low (controls are sloppy) or airspeed is high (controls have substantial resistance). The aileron surfaces in the Mig-17 are not that large either.

That's the time it takes to translate American input into Russian, so the plane understands.

I have seen Go Pros and have a couple of Sony Action cams but thought, man, those are small. That totally makes sense, two different planes!
