What a fun trip!!! Never got to do that with my family... Did get to take my 3 young nieces home back in the late 90's though. My friend had a Cherokee 6 (I was his safety pilot when he needed one for his IFR currency) which was perfect for 3 adults and three little girls!! Took my father along as he loved flying and he wanted to visit his Uncle down in Fl. We loaded them all up along with all their "stuff"... You couldn't of fit a piece of paper in the luggage compartment ;-) We took off from KHKY with a muucchh longer takeoff roll than normal, and when the controller asked us to climb an additional 2000' the PIC told him, "we can, but it'll take a while" :-) The youngest niece is a chatterbox just like your son, Ken, (the a/c owner) still laughs to this day about how many times we heard, "Uncle Brian, Uncle Brian"!!! We had a potty stop in Ga, (you can't ask little girls to use the "facilities" in the plane, what a mess that would be ;-) They had lunch and wayyyy too much popcorn, but on the plus side, they crashed and slept the rest of the way. What a great trip!!! May not seem like it at the time, but you, and more importantly, they, will remember that trip forever!!! What a great dad you are!!! Enjoy your time with them, they'll be grown & married b4 you know it!!! I can't fly anymore due to a Dr "fixing" my back :-( So cherish every minute you spend in that plane sir, and also each & every minute with your family!!! God Bless You All!!! :-)

The barrage of questions was hilarious! I can relate. Have you had any issues with the Honeywell avionics? How have you liked that aspect of the NG?
@GrantBaker
@GrantBaker 3 жыл бұрын
It can be annoying to answer all the questions sometimes, but I’m so glad he’s asking them! We have had the plane for about a year now. So far, the only avionics maintenance we have had to do was replace a relay at annual that tells the panel if it’s on the ground or not. Apparently it is only for the avionics screens and doesn’t affect anything safety-wise (like landing gear), you just get the wrong MFD screen on power up and alarms that are normally silenced are not. I’ve been keeping a log of a number of other oddities that I’ve seen, but no other errors have been consistent or have warranted maintenance so far. Overall I don’t mind the Honeywell, but there are a few things that annoy me. My biggest is the approach loading. You can’t load an approach in standby like you can in, say, the Garmin G600. So you have to be way ahead of the plane, which is fine and isn’t an issue except when plans change last minute. Then it can get really busy since the approach loading process can be a bit cumbersome.
@Gleddy
@Gleddy 3 жыл бұрын

What is the story of the MiG tail in the back of the hanger?
@GrantBaker
@GrantBaker 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a Mig-17 that was supposed to perform at the 2019 airshow here at GSH. It had an afterburner issue when it flew in and ended up melting a bunch of stuff. It’s been here since then.😬 I show a closeup of it in my preflight video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nZxgeqecstO3qYE.html
@aaroncecil6404
@aaroncecil6404 2 жыл бұрын
I was able to get the tail number off your video. This MIG is famous in my town. In the 90s during an air show it was doing a low loop on a hot day and scraped the ground. The pilot dumped the flaps and hit the afterburner and was able to pickup and come around for a landing. I was a volunteer working with the FBO and saw the plane hit the ground and then I got to see it up close when he taxied in. He was about an inch away from getting into the compressor of the engine and killing himself on the tail strike. There is a picture of it on the net somewhere. A lot of people said it was photo shopped. No I can first hand tell that I watched it happen and also was able to go over to where he hit and see the trench he dug with the tail. That’s wild that I spotted it in your video! Awesome content by the way!
