Avianca. Begining in July 2024 they are supposed to re-start their Business class service within South America. I live in Toronto, and have been thinking of going to Santiago Chile, if it is any good. Their price is half the price of LATAM/Air Canada, so I am a little apprehensive. Thanks Josh. Great videos !

Hi Josh. I'm glad to see your latest video flying Ecojet's Avro Bae 146-200 I understand your concern about safety on board a fairly old aircraft but I watched you getting aboard unknown airlines flying the old Boeing 737-200. I am Bolivian and left La Paz in 1969 My first experience was flying an old Curtiss C-46 that was testing its new overhauled engine. So, talk about not being scared. Of course at the time I was only 14 yrs old. I moved to the United States in August of 1969 to study aviation. I worked for Delta Air Lines until retirement in 2014. I continue enjoying all of that free travel worldwide on Delta and other carriers. My most recent trip was in 2019 on Delta to EZE and Aerolineas Argentinas to Santa Cruz and Boliviana BOA to Cochabamba. I also wanted to go to La Paz but run out of time. Watching your videos brings back all of that good memories of rtavel, specially in Fist Class. Thanks for visiting Bolivia. It is a beautiful country. Next time stay longer in La Paz so that you get used to the altitude. Keep up the good job

The altitude in La Paz is horrible! As soon as the doors open, the headache starts. I had to play a tennis tournament there years ago, and it was horrible. Altitude sickness is no joke. I also flew BoA (Boliviana, with an A at the end) to Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, and the airline was nothing to write home about.

Josh, do not worry. Bolivia is famous for old airframes and from my times of living in South America, I remember the many old propeller planes that were used to fly cargo within Bolivia. So, many pilots are trained to fly old planes and operate under sometimes very difficult conditions (meteo, technical, logistics). They often are more experienced in masterin difficult situations than many pilots in other countries who only know planes with latest technology. In Bolivia you will get to your destination and I cannot recall an air accident in that country in recent years. Safe travels.

A plane in turbulence is like a grape in the middle of a block of Jell-O. When the Jell-O moves and shakes, the grape does, too - but it can't fall down. Also, planes are made to withstand forces that most passengers won't be able to withstand. ;) Just leave your seatbelt on whenever you sit and you won't get hurt. Might it be uncomfortable? Yes. Will you die? Very unlikely. 🎉

Interestingly, there is an Flight Manual supplement for the BAe 146 to allow it to operate from airfields like those in Bolivia due to the high elevation of the airports reducing the take-off performance.

My front yard is at approximately 1860m here in Cheyenne, Wyoming (the 2nd highest state capital in the United States) and for those coming up from lower altitudes Excedrin (or it's generic equivalent) are worth keeping on you. The Aspirin part thins your blood, the caffine boosts your blood pressure making it flow, while the Acetaminophen and Aspirin take out the headache.

Josh, I can relate to the altitude sickness. I grew up at sea level and one summer we went to Breckinridge, Colorado, about 9,000 feet. So I think it’s similar altitude, maybe a bit lower. Anyway, I was in good shape and went to run on the treadmill and it almost killed me. I can do 8 minute miles forever at sea level but there I was done after one! I was shocked. The rest of the day I felt like I had a raging hangover, pounding headache, fatigue, etc. You get acclimated but it takes a few days. Anyway, I sympathize completely with your situation. Enjoyed the episode as always.
