At Sun 'n Fun 2016, Just Aircraft is showing off its new Titan-powered SuperSTOL XL. Harrison Smith took AVweb's Paul Bertorelli for a half-day demo flight in the new airplane, and here's AVweb's video report.

Baby brother to the Helio. Took slats, interceptor/spoiler ideas from that great STOL plane. Landing gear is similar to the Pilatus PC6 Porter. Thanks for the great introduction to the SuperSTOL XL.

Very impressive, especially with the high lift devices including the Handley-Page slats. I find it incredible to see the slats extend automatically as the angle of attack increases.

I don’t need or want a STOL. I want to go somewhere. My part of Texas is pretty flat until you get to the hill country. I look forward to flying to big bend and the hill country.

Airfoil shaped horizontal stabilizer with outboard surfaces to achieve end plane effect. Reminds me of Guiseppe Bellanca. Leading edge slats....Willie Messerschmitt. Unlike human laws, the laws of aerodynamics are subject to neither revision nor amendment.

How does a weight difference of 10-15 lbs equal to having to need 2 extra feet claiming it's to compensate for the weight of the engine?

pmp2559 probably needed the additional length for longitudinal stability and elevator/rudder authority. Horsepower increases decrease stability as a general rule.

Previous answer was completely false ..that 10 to 15 lbs diff was from the UL motor , but not the Rotax ...the fuselage was lengthened due to the difference in weight over the Rotax 912 which is about 100 lbs lighter ... not for the UL motor ... both the Titan and UL require the two foot longer fuselage over the rotax ... and that is the larger UL motor .. there are smaller UL ones similar in weight to the rotax that can use the shorter fuselage

In an earlier video they said the Titan was 150# heavier and extending the fuselage was “a weight and balance thing”.

That wing structure looks extremely week, the spars are thin as anything! Not sure how that aircraft will stay structurally strong in even light turbulence that loads up the wing.

lol ...you can tell aircraft structural strength by looking at it ... thats pretty impressive ... why did Just Aircraft go to all the trouble of engineering calculations when you could have told them its strength at a glance ... Im guessing all the owners are just lucky there has not been one wing failure since its inception ... nor will there be ... in spite of your eyeball engineering

way too expensive. ditch the certified engine and put a turbo corvair in it.

Says on their website they have motor mounts for several Engines even VW I would bet you can put a corvair engine in it I think that might be little big for this? UL engines are good buy right now because EURO is weak 70 cents is one euro.
