Prior to its Summer stint running out of York on Waverley tours, 60103 'Flying Scotsman' ran a final tour from London Kings Cross to York with an interesting itinerary. Starting at Kings Cross the A3 would run to Peterborough along its old stomping ground including some now rare fast line running between Welwyn and the water stop at Holme. After Peterborough the pacific would divert off the mainline and run through Stamford to reach the Midland Mainline at Syston. Once again the tour was put on the fast for a run North.
The shot starts at Biggleswade station after a quick change of plans owing the vast amounts of line side vegetation at Lindsells. Here Flying Scotsman is seen flying along at its maximum permitted speed. After a long, but speedy dash to Loughborough, the A3 is seen amongst the masses of onlookers. Unfortunately the speed wasn't quite what I thought it would be, but non-the-less the Gresley Racehorse lifts it unassisted 12 coach load away in fine style.
