After a massive long major rebuild 60103 Flying Scotsman was at the helm for the Railway Touring companies latest Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express . This would be her first run Northbound over Shap since 1969 and we see 60103 near Shap summit with 11 on the hook plus a class 47 . The return over the S&C sees 60103 as she is about to cross over to work wrong line near Howe & Co signalbox and finally a very wet Birkett Common . Apologies for my hand getting in the 1st shot near the end as I was trying to keep the rain off the lens .

Cracking action from Scotsman Steve but what dreadful weather. She showed sure footedness and climbed well with a steady, healthy sounding exhaust, and I thought the start-up after the enforced stop showed great skill from the driver and a fine performance from the Loco. Thanks and best wishes! Ken

+TheStephengthompson ..... Steve, I know the parents of the first new owner of the FS: Tony Marchington. At their Burns Suppers ( I was the piper) each January, Tony's mum would display the half-moon name plate across the heavily laden table, and drape tartan ribbons over it. Lovely memories.

Very sound performance, although it is virtually a new loco albeit with an old boiler, isn't it. Particularly impressive at Ais Gill with the diesel not assisting at all. I wonder how many of those in the Luxury Dining appreciated it, though; how much interest they took in it at all other than taking Selfies in front of The Flying Scotsman.
@DeCasoU1

+AndreiTupolev Back when there was a whole class of locomotives at work an engine going in for a heavy overhaul would emerge when complete with a repaired boiler from the boiler pool. Equally the locomotive could be reassembled on a spare set of frames. The general public just would not know. When working with a one off, in a heritage aware environment, the task of overhaul becomes a very different game.
