The GAU-8 Avenger 30mm gatling gun is the enemy ground troop's worst nightmare. The sound alone, the iconic "brrrrt brrrrt" has been called music to the ears of friendly ground troops and psychologically demoralizing to the enemy ground forces. It's also interesting as a plane as the entire aircraft was basically built around the gatling. It was designed to keep the gun flying and operational. Not the prettiest thing, but effective. A truly unique plane and one for the history books.

Another interesting thing about the A-10. The hydraulics systems are also all redundant meaning you really only need half the aircraft to still fly. Technically the A-10 could land with only one engine, one wing, one elevator, and one rudder left. Thanks for all the good videos Trev

You should try the A-10C in DCS! It works pretty well, the US Air force even uses it for training.

Sad to say that Microsoft leaving planes that are unflyable on the marketplace is just one of the many many things they do to show that they couldn't care less about the community. Serious props to you for still making a great video even with the issues the plane has!

P-47 Thunderbolt to the A-1 Skyraider to the A-10 Thunderbolt II All had big guns lots of armor around the pilot. All 3 were used for Close Air Support operations. The AH-64 Apache was born from the AH-1 Cobra gunship. If you'd left it at 100% throttle you could've gotten airborne!!

Trev, you should try DCS World. The simulator is free to install but most of the planes are full 1-1 realism, especially the A-10. They are pricey, but definitely worth it. Also, the A-10 is the successor to the P-47 Thunderbolt, not the P-51 Mustang. Hence the reason for the A-10 being named, “Thunderbolt II.”

One of the first planes I learned in DCS. It still amazes me to this day how complex the cockpit environment is in this aircraft.

Trev after seeing the interior of the C-130 and now these issues with the A-10, I think is time you move on from MS Flying Simulator to DCS World. watch some videos about that game if you don't know it. It's insane.

There's another A-10 on the marketplace, its called the A-10 Thunderbolt II, its rated alot higher and you can actually fly it, and its fairly realistic too, most of the controls inside the cockpit work and its made by someone who knows how to make aircraft lol

My dad worked flight-line for these aircraft back in the 70s/80s. I worked on the guts years later. Always been fond of them. Check out Captain Kim Campbell. Pilots call the seat the bathtub because it's rather claustrophobic XD

im a history buff so minor nitpick did anyone also notice that he said p 57 thunderbolt witch is not real but i think he ment p 47 thunderbolt witch was an actual plane in ww2 4:10 of the video when he said it

Went to my first Chiefs game at arrowhead last year during the AFC championship game. The flyover for the national anthem included 4 of these. It was so cool. Nice video man.

DCS is far better for combat-related aircraft, including the A-10. Not only are all systems fully simulated but you can deploy weaponry (missiles, rockets, GAU-8, etc.). MSFS is good for VFR flight with GA but for combat aircraft DCS is the way to go.

It is a P-51 Mustang, not P-57. And the Thunderbolt was a P-47, not P-57. One sentence you say it was the successor to the Mustang, the next mention you said it was the successor to the Thunderbolt. Both time you call it the P-57, which was wrong in both cases.

It's the P47 thunderbolt, mustang is the p51.

If you want to just fly around in dcs and do simple stuff that can be pretty easly achieved. If you want to go deeper and fire of more complicated weapons, it will get reeealy complicated. But id be super down for a "lets learn to fly a jet" series xD

I was in the second battle of fallujah, also know as operation phantom fury. I was in C. Co. 1st LAR call sign warpigs. Was some scary stuff for those few weeks.

DCS you get the A-10C and it’s about as real as you can get from starting to take off to landing

What you need to do is just leave it full throttle and it will take off

Yo trev you should play DCS:world it’s a 1:1 scale fighter jet simulator and you can PVP and PVE in thousands of servers, there is an array of aircraft from different nations. There are two types of aircraft: low fidelity and high fidelity where realism is increased the higher fidelity you go however the price goes up
