What an amazing guy & pilot. To think that during a gun run that a rocket went off right next to him I’m surprised he can still hear. Putting that aside, that his foot came off n the only thing he could think of is could he fly again. I’m soooo glad it worked out for him. Oh the question he asked about the British RAF pilot who lost his legs n still managed to be a Spitfire Ace during WW2 his surname is pronounced Bar-der although it’s spelled Bader I believe. It’s how we here taught n how everyone says it in England. Again. Amazing story n video.

I am not at all sure how I found this, but I have always loved the Air-Cam and you really captured the essence of the experience. Then there was Walt, what a tremendous experience to have witnessed that example of resilience and how he chose brilliance over bitterness, and finally to bring people home. Thank you for sharing this (even if I am a little late 🙄)

This reminds me of my grandfather and my introduction to flying. Grew up in the St Cloud FL area and he taught me the basics of flight at 13 in a challenger 2 Clip wing. So 500 to 1000 feet the whole time just seeing everything there is to see. Always wanted to get back to that. Just now I'm at a point where I can get my official license and start flying again. My real goal, my Grandfather has gotten to "experienced" to go up anymore, I wanna get my license so I can go pick him up and return the favor of flight. He opened up a whole world to me and I want to bring it back for him.

What a great video. Walt is a real inspiration. I took some flying lessons when I was younger and stopped, life and money kind of got in the way. Now that I'm 65 this is just the kick in the pants that I need to start fulfilling my dream. I had an opportunity to fly in a Pietenpol and absolutely loved it. Low and slow is what I'm looking to do. Thanks again for the great video!

What a great video, I watched you with Premier 1 Driver a couple of days ago and you mentioned this video and I had to watch it. I live in Richmond BC, near YVR, and I am not a pilot. In 1984 a friend of mine was fascinated with Ultra Light aircraft and he talked me into going to Surrey to go for a flying lesson in a Ultra Light. So here I am sitting in a small plastic seat next to the pilot, and you look down and you don't see anything but the ground. The engine was in the back, no radio head sets, so you can't talk to the pilot, and very noisy. We take off, and climb up to about 1000ft (this video tells me that now) and it scared the C%@p out of me, I am a nervous flyer to begin with. Then the pilot taps me and points to the stick and wants me to take control. I gave him the cross sign and shook my head NO, and made signals for us to go back like right now.....and we did. So I don't blame you not wanting to go in an Ultra Light, I will never go in one again, but I love this video. I just turned 70, if I was a lot younger, I might get interested in this plane, very cool.

Love the Aircam. That is what the Wright Bros. envisioned as the advent of aviation. You get an entirely different perspective on flying at 500 ft. Walt is a great gentleman in addition to being a combat veteran. Always wanted to fly fixed wing planes so when I was drafted and selected for helicopter flight school I though about it. When I learned of the danger involved flying in Vietnam I turned it down. Never fulfilled my dream of becoming a pilot.I am a Veteran of Vietnam and stand by my Brothers!

I backed out of the Aviation101 collaboration video where you mentioned this video to search for it. My dad's first airplane back in the 70's was a vintage Taylorcraft - first plane I ever flew. Had only a wet compass for instrumentation. This video reminds me a lot of flying in that - low and slow. Of course, the Taylorcraft could only have dreamt of twin engines! The Aircam seems really sweet. Thanks for sharing. Brought back great memories.

Cool. There was no way I would have thought AirCam from your Facebook post. Still, what a great ride. You could tell at 23 seconds into the video you were going to enjoy this, the smile was just too big! I agree with Walt that you should have an airplane just for 'the fun of flying.' A Cessna 150/152, or even an older 140 or 170 would be a great choice. I noticed the hanger he had the AirCam in. Was that a Waco, and tucked back in the corner, a T-34? I LOVE flying the T-34, what a great airplane that is!
