I am glad it was helpful! If they have to fly in cargo, maybe you can choose an airline that has good reviews. Also book a direct flight if possible, to avoid any complications and keep the flight shorter. A night flight might help also, since they are already used to sleep at that hour. Thank you! I couldn't leave him home for a whole month, that's for sure 😅😅 And while flying IS more stressful with a dog, I would have been a lot more stressed during our trip if he wasn't with me 🥰

Oi! 😃👋Sami always travels in the cabin with us. He weighs 7.9-8 kg normally, but before flights he "diets" (reduced meals, no treats for about 2 weeks) and he weighs around 7.7 kg. We do this with the OK from Sami's vet, so I always recommend checking in with a vet before doing this.

@@WestieVibes Thank you Very much for your answer. My babe weight 12 kg. I think it'so unfair that your pet can't come in the canina in general pets with more thank 10. You pay the same price that for a person why shouldn't they travel with us. I travelled with mine from Brazil to Uruguay after 6 months of having adopted him and then back to Brazil a year and half after. He ent with the cargo, I was soooo worried,at the end of the trip back to Brazil he was extremely cold. Never again Will travel with himin those conditions. I'm an animal protector! The best story I was witnessed it was of a three leg male black stray dog adopted at he Animal Hospital where I live, Ilhabela, Brazil. The woman who adopted him fell in love with him, and wanted to take him to NY . They weree making her life miserable,difficult so she got a certificate saying sua was Crazy and she needed the dog with her. Solved!!

Sami weighs 7.7 kg, he is smaller than most Westie males. But he is taller than most :) I don't know his measurements, but he fits ok inside the carrier bag from the Sherpa brand (size L on Amazon). We are always worried when we fly, but so far he was always able to go in the cabin ☺

Hi, this is a good question. Yes, most airline rules ask that the dog be able to stand and turn around inside the carrier, but in my experience they rarely ever ask to see this when you check in. Only once this happened to us and I have a video about it ("our dog almost wasn't allowed on the plane") 😅 But every other time we had no problem, in Europe we always check in with Sami outside his bag, so they never actually see him in the bag. He is also too tall to properly stand inside it (and most dogs are). They do weigh Sami 8 out of 10 in Europe (just him, without the bag thankfully). In the US, they never weigh him, but they always ask that we check in with him in the bag. We never had any problems. I hope this was helpful! Let me know if you want to know more 😊

Hi, that's an exciting trip!! So good that you get to share it with your pup. Sounds like you are well prepared! 👍🏻 Yes, you need the health certificate within 14 days of departure date, deworming within 5 days (I don't know if you need proof, when we traveled to the USA I put it in the health certificate, but seems like it wasn't really necessary, they just need to know you did the deworming). Yes, you will need the passport once you are in Europe, so maybe make an appointment to the nearest vet to make sure you get it soon. When you do the check in, in the US you'll be required to keep your pup in the bag (and they don't weigh him/her) but when you fly back, in Europe you can usually keep the dog outside the bag when checking in. So no need to put them in the bag until boarding. Also, in Europe they weigh your pup at check in, but since it's a small Pom it's probably well under the weight limit so no worries :) Just so you know, when you arrive in Europe they might require you to do a dog checkup before exiting the airport. They usually have a small checkup room with a vet and it's quick, just to make sure the dog is healthy. I always assume they are strict because the rules are clear and it all depends on the people enforcing them. On our flight with Delta, they didn't weigh Sami at all, so that was great! But I always try to have Sami as much under 8kg as possible before we fly, to avoid situations where someone who is in a bad mood that day might reject him because he is too heavy, you know? But so far I have to say, the staff at Delta was great with Sami.

Hi, I'm sorry for not seeing your comment. Yes, from NY to Europe they only asked for the European passport 😊 Also after landing, we had to go through a checking point where a vet examined Sami to make sure he is healthy and his paperwork is in order. This was 10 minutes max.

@@WestieVibes yes I have heard that in Portugal they examine the dogs… in Germany nobody cared… 😅
