Hello. So great seeing both of you together again. Fasnaughts have always been a big deal in Pennsylvania. I can't remember the name of the church but it's in Lebanon, PA. They have great fasnaughts. You can order ahead otherwise you can stand in line for hours. It's the only church in Lebanon that makes them. It's the church's biggest fund raiser of the year. Next comes the church's Easter eggs. In Millersburg, Pa there's a church that makes Peanutbutter, Coconut and Double Coconut in milk or dark chocolate. Even the local stores and gas stations have them. I limit myself to one a year. I hope we don't get too much of the winter mix they are calling for tonight and tomorrow. Stay safe. Hope you have a good weekend. ❤

Hi Dagney! It was so great meeting you, Jocelyn and Andrew yesterday! I watched this video today and you mentioned knitting! I crochet but would love to learn knitting! The Columbia Catholic Church has fasnauchts you can order. St Gerts in Lebanon has really good ones too! Pre-order is best. Lines can be long and iffy! Most of the ones in local grocery stores bear no resemblance to the fasnauchts I grew up with. Good luck! Hugs to you and your family!

I can relate to the caregiver and keeping our elderly parents active and included..I have this with my 82 yr old mother , who maybe slower.but loves thrifting and antiquing with me. Here in Wisconsin where I live the big treat before lent is Paczki’s pronounced “Pooch-key”, a Polish tradition! It’s a donut filled primarily with prunes ( was my Mom’s favorite) but can be filled with raspberry, cherry, all kinds of fruit filling! Yummy!

In Michigan, we have paczkis (pronounced “POONCH keys”)on Fat Tuesday. From your description of fastnachts, I think they must be very much the same. Paczkis are the Polish version.

If you can’t sell your Lego’s, there is a Lego site that will send you a free shipping label to send them the used Lego’s. Then they wash and sort them. Then they give them to children who are hospitalized or children who can’t afford new Lego kits. I did this with my extra Lego’s from my grandchildren.

We called them fausnaught kegels. My mom use to make these for every Shrove Tuesday. She always made a maple glaze for them. I lost my mother 10 years ago, I really need to find her recipe and try to make them. ❤️

I live outside of Cleveland, Ohio and we have donuts as well for fat Tuesday but they're called paczis, pronounced "poonchkee". They're traditionally filled with a plum jam or rose petal jelly but popular flavors are other jellies, custards, cremes, etc like typical donuts. They're delicious! Cool to know there are similar things just with different names!
