UPDATE: The LED lights do serve a purpose for alarms and successful binding, but just cycle through the colours at other times. There are also voice prompts in Chinese accented English, but they are preset and not assignable. RSSI shows on the screen but I'm not sure how to send it to a flight control board.

I just bought one. I like it, I had to buy the JR adapter and AFHDS2 module as well. Its not perfect and there are several things I would have liked differently but considering how insanely cheap it is I'm wiling to look over those things. Also several complaints I had were easily remedied with some of the available accessories which were very cheap as well. I do like how youc an power it through the USB port. And youc an change out the built in battery it just requires disassembling the radio, which if you're in this hobby should be no problem for you.
@hape4
@hape4 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, most complaints about this radio can be easily worked out, like the adapter. The battery inside for me it's a way better solution than a battery that can be taken out but rattles or needs to be packed with foam to avoid that. And who flies 6 or 8 hours without a pause? With my bad eyes I think the screen text is sometimes too small especially in bright sunlight. And the sunshade is cheap and prone to break.

Thanks for reviewing this radio. I have it for about 7 months now and I still like it. Most of your review I agree upon however I think the battery fixed inside is a plus. First it's better not to always have to unplug for charging because connectors do wear out. Second I hate it when the battery rattles inside so you have to use foam to stop that (for a while). If the fixed battery fails in time a new one can be installed easily enough. And who flies 4 hours without stopping? It's rated at 8 hours...

i know this is an old video and all but i just gotta say - i love the lights. I have the PL EV version as i'm more into robotics but i find it really useful. Childish it might be, but i love anything with flashing lights on it. i notice it's mostly older folks who are saying they dont like it, lol great radio all in all. pricey but it really is the multitool of radio. Only thing I wasn't too keen on with it is the wireless charging. I like my stuff to have replaceable batteries, and wireless charging is just a bit awkward and slow. But I get why they included it.

This Flysky sounds great, I have a Flysky radio (4 years) and had no problems with it. I may change back to Flysky, if Jumper can't get their act together. They're having many problems wiith their radios, I myself had the Jumper t8sg plus V2, that crashed on me, also I have the Jumper T16 Pro v2 and Jumper TX, I'll see how they go. Some of their newer models are giving people problems as well...So there you go! Nice features and what not on this Flysky... Cheers and thanks for sharing! Thanks for the shout out! I still really like the quality of this radio, I just set up my new LOS plane on it... lol I do miss some things from OpenTX though, and I would LOVE it if they every got OpenTX running on this one. I've seen some discussion about it, apparently the PL18 uses the same CPU that's in the T16/TX16S and Horus. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to port OpenTX to run on it, but it would need some cooperation from FlySky. You could open it up and map the pinouts and figure that part out, but they would need to provide some info on their internal protocols to support the FlySly modules. I'm guessing it would have to be after OpenTX gets the touch interface up and working too obviously. I think it would make this already nice radio a top contender for a lot more people if it happened though... ;) Anyway, I'm looking forward to your thoughts after flying with it!

I'm not in the market for a new radio, but I like to see what's new. And I'm always AMAZED (and not in a good way) at what the design peeps come up with. They start out with the best of intentions, listening to what experienced users and prospective buyers actually want and need... and then they open things up to a focus-group of toddlers. This looks like a perfect mix of air-punching (YES!) and face-punching (Nooooo!) features. Designed by committee. It's not my idea of a flagship product. It's mid-way between Faberge and Fisher-Price. Is it a particular cultural phenomenon that makes it seem a good idea to infantilise products in the East? Coloured lights? Garish graphics? Dodgy fonts? Go-faster stripes? Stop it! It's like those bizarre kitchen-sink T-shirt slogans: 'Always Timing Hero Jet Powerful Cat Zoom!!!' Er... what? If you're writing an instruction manual for international consumption, you hire a native speaker of each language to read and edit the appropriate bits to ensure that you don't inadvertently trip over an idiom and start a war. Common sense. Well, designing products for international consumption should work the same way. Get some opinions from people you trust and respect and modify things accordingly. You know - just like they did before launching the Ford Fanny Face Edsel - Oops. Anyhooo, the thing about China is: it's inconceivably vast. No doubt FlySky can get by selling hundreds of millions of its splendid Always Timing Hero Jet Powerful Cat Zoom!!! radios to its local market , but if it wants to sell internationally, it needs to dump those teenaged focus-groups. A ruined reputation can take a long, long time to heal. I know mine will (sob, sniff).

The o.s in the Paladin is very VERY similar to the FS-i10, setups are sooooo easy with the touchscreen and the build quality of the high end Flysky Tx's is very good. The biggest problem with the Flysky high end radios is updates, they never come lol. i highly doubt that more than one firmware update will ever be released for the radio and if its hardware is anything like the i10 which i suspect it probably is due to the O.S, the radio will be running custom flysky marked chips inside and cutome firmware will be impossible (like with the i10) because independent developers wont be able to reverse engineer the hardware to write custom firmware for it which is a real shame. My i10 feels 10x more rubust than my T16 and TX16s and the pots are much better quality and retractable! Another thing i prefer about my i10 is the size, its got the standard footprint for a tx but its literally half the thickness of the t16 and holding the T16 feels like holding a brick when your used to the FS-i10 lol I run external antennas on my i10 and amplify the signal on each antenna to 2w, long range and cloud surfing on 2.4ghz is no problem with my FS-i10 :) All in all, if not being able to install custom firmware or run OpenTx on the radio is not a concern, the high end flysky radios are very well constructed and i recommend them.

yeah its weird. I just bought one and had to buy the adapter bay. At least it was really cheap. There are several things I would liked differently but considering how cheap it is I'm willing to over look them. Also most of the things are fixable buy just buying a cheap accessory.

hi Andrew , all of your videos are very good and informatiive , want to buy new radio pls guide me which one you think is good , tandem x20 or x20s fly sky pl 18 , ( in paladin 18 have only one version or any other upgrade version also ) Taranis x9D plus ( some one say that in this have radio wireless headtracking option ) i am only fly gas , nitro and electric plane , no drone flying as expert pls advise ,

Tandem and Paladin are better quality radios but I prefer the more flexible OpenTX operating system on the Radiomaster TX16S or Taranis radios.

Hi Andrew! How do you use the trainer function on the Paladin? I’m trying to figure it out on how will it work with the Flysky FSI6X as student and the Paladin as trainer. I already read the instructions and have the appropriate cable but still it won’t work.

It looks very good for under 300 usd, but the none replaceable battery is a big deal. If cared for the electronics would be good for decades, but the battery would last 3-5 years. When it comes to high end stuff the business people of the company should be kept out of the boardroom, coz you don't wana compromise the product with their idiotic ideas.

Hmmm, my nearly five year old Graupner has a very good colour touch screen and you can turn the RF on or off so that's nothing new, and 2km range is plenty for me. Even my very cheap (£130) Radiolink has a colour screen, basic telemetry, amazing latency and more than 2km range if I needed it. (I only fly line of sight anyway) I'm sure all the latest high tech radios are very good but I'll stay where I am for now and who the heck needs 50km range anyway?

@bonafidepirate & @Andrew Newton - or anyone... - HELP HELP...I just received my Paladin PL18 from HobbyKing...Going through configuration and found that for some reason No Stick movement...I go to Calibration and moving the sticks they don't respond. I did update Firmware pretty much off the bat... Not sure that would be the issue...?!?! Any thoughts? All other switches and dials seem to work fine...
@lklmmedia4715

ALSO just realised I think it may have happened after Firmware update - but need a confirmation - when I first turned on after unboxing it gave the normal "Move throttle before starting" message, and I am fairly sure moving the throttle worked then. But not when turning on it shows the Throttle Dead centre and does not respond even at that point...

Not sure if this was really the solution at all...But it worked - I pulled the unit apart, wondering if maybe the Pot cabling was disconnected... Couldn't see anything obvious, but disconnected the Cables, reconnected and re-assembled - Now sticks are working again. Hopefully not just a temporary measure, any feedback on this would be appreciated. Also found an annoyance, I found the 1.0.30 Firmware, but you can't DOWNGRADE firmware to a previous version :(

It is amazing how much better the transmitter works as a Joystick in those apps over a Proper Joystick (of which I have a decent Thrustmaster.)
