This particular song never gets old for those of us who grew up with it. It is simply uplifting and I just seem to be transported to a better place when I hear it. I am 66 years old and Yes still can make me feel like a teenager all over again and optimistic about the world we live in.

I like to think I did. February 18, 1980. I grew up listening to everything my dad loved, 60s and 70s, then grew up hearing the 80s, I still love a lot of the 80s, but then I got the 90s as a teen. I love the 60s-80s, but man were the 90s wild. Probably comparable to kids born in 60 reaching the late 60s. But all I can say is todays music sucks

In southern Maryland…Charles County…. Literally 50 years ago…. 1973… We were tadpoles, kittens and puppies… baby fur and bright naive eyes…. Trinity Lake….. and another place… immediately across the street from what was then “Charles County Community College” there was “Mount Carmel Monastery” ( there really was (is?) a group of cloistered nuns….. and below it…..a hidden field, a creek,…midnight… a full moon illuminating the field and the dense mist that laid thick but only a foot or two deep….a friend tripped a fell and disappeared into that mist…. It was so joyful … the mystic world ahead of us….and in the woods …. Trees so old that THREE of us finger tips to finger tips stretched… around the tree trunk….. we couldn’t reach each other…. The silent creek un disturbed since before Gollum … The last of those old magic places …that were real for us….existed in JRR Tolkien’s dreams…. And in YES, and ELP… Paul Winter and Oregon Consort…Icarus Ground Ground. And Even Jethro Tull … filthy fingers smearing shabby clothes… (music wasn’t only about hormones, reproduction… nor hate)… For us songs expressed our brand new perspectives.. all energy, optimism and joy… before our hearts were thickened .. Fortunate Son… and Helter Skelter…. Hard Rain Fallin and Sound df Silence .. they weren’t yet real… the Year 2525….. only scary stories. Another place …. where the new Washington football stadium is..now…. In the sixties… farm fields …tobacco and beans… I know… this… I walked in those fields. And dirt roads …. Now myths… And when our lights dim… the wine all drunk… the songs all sung …the camp fires mellow into embers… and then cool…. Tolkien , Anderson and Anderson … Greg Lake… will remember our tales and treks. I do so pray for the new dreamers….that music and holy memories and good warm happy mystic places …. They find them too.. and they remember warm embers with dear friends Your Move

I graduated HS in ‘76. When I heard Jon sing thing song, it was like a religious experience and I wasn’t too religious in the 70’s 😂. It was rock orchestra and this band was on a higher plane than all the rest. The sad thing was most all of us guys could not sing along with Jon and his perfect pitch and octave or two higher. 🤟. He was given a vocal gift. 👍

I remember when I got home with this record (1972), I was 12 years old. My parents yelled at me for that "shaggy hippie" music. I know ... childhood is future!
@bayponds
@bayponds 3 жыл бұрын
its early 1972 - I'm 14, I've got hair, and I'm listening to the typical UK musical bilgewater everybody was listening to. That is/was, until my 15th birthday, and the release of an album on that very day by a group I had never even heard of. My friend bought a copy from Revolution Records in Windsor, and brought the LP round for us to listen to on my hi-tech(!) stereo record player. I had never heard anything like it. It totally blew me away, and completely took my musical taste off in another direction, away from the pap and pop, and I never looked back. This is the song that led to Yes becoming my favourite band of all time, and the reason I decided to learn to play guitars. Even now, nearly 50 years on, I can't ever listen to this track, or play along to it, without getting all watery-eyed. One day, you will all each look back and recall the song that 'did it' for you. This is mine .... My Song of the Day, .. and, in a musical sense, the song of my life ...

Yes he is. He's one of my all time favorite guitarists (I'm a guitarist myself, but nowhere near that level). I prefer Steve over Santana, Van Halen, Malmsteen and many others just because he's so incredibly damn versatile. Rock, classical, country, bluegrass, just about anything he can play as if it were the only style he knows. I saw them on tour around the time this was recorded, in San Jose's Center for the Performing Arts. It's not a typical venue for rock bands, but the sound and show were incredible. The guys were showing their age then and that was more than a dozen years ago. Steve would try a few jumping kicks like he did in the old day and we thought he was going to fall and break a hip. I counted 24 different stringed instruments that Steve Howe played during the concert. Up to 3 on a song. He started with one clamped on a stand, switched to one he had strapped on and then a crew member tossed him another. And he played them all with the wonderful style and precision for which he's famous.

Well, the hair on my arms just got a full workout. The KZfaq audience can very well appreciate the result but virtually none of them know how logistically near-impossible it is to pull off a hybrid orchestra live recording to this level of excellence. Drums and violins just weren’t meant to share a stage. Yes has done an exquisite job of it here! It is a musical challenge of enormous scale, from arrangements to conducting and isolating the acoustic instruments, and not least, playing with an unusually keen ear to your many stagemates. Alan White commanded the groove to perfection. He is just better than ever. I hope I’ve not taken any of the glow off this by focusing on the production elements but they are just beyond reproach. Even the choices made in post production are those of love and respect for the music. A bit of help with the harmony vocals, but far, far less tinkering than I am accustomed to hearing. It is simply fantastic!

Yes. I totally agree with you here. Just about every song I can place myself at that time in memory of something, some part of my life. Going back to as far as I can remember which would be early 60’s surf music coming out of California then. This YES song takes me back to my college days in the early 70’s when I was turning on. Great remarks from you as I can relate.

And You and I is certainly one of the finest pieces of music in Rock history. It gives me chills pretty well every time I hear it.

I began drum lessons at 6 years old in 1973. Spent most of my teens studying The Professor and Alan White. Very underrated and under-appreciated IMO. Even at 54 (and still drumming daily), this music makes the hair on my neck stand up straight and brings a tear to my eye... No comparison to today's "music." Peace.

Close To The Edge is easily my favorite Yes album. I bought it in high school back in the 70’s and played it a zillion times, memorizing every note. There are parts on that album that I thought were improvisation that I later learned were written parts. What brilliance! Sorry to say that I only saw them once as a group, back around 1975 in Colt Park, Hartford.

I was in awe of Yes when I first discovered them in the 70s and I'm still mesmerized by them today. Such a genius of orchestral perfection. One of a kind! Timeless!

In their minds, I believe they wanted to be that perfect transition between Classical Music and modern Day Rock! In my mind they succeeded beyond any other current day band. Jethro Tull used classical movements in his songs , but fits more into folk rock than classical rock. Yes is unparalleled as a Classical Rock group!

The first time I heard them was when I heard 'Your Move' on the radio when it first came out. I loved it so much I had to go straight out and buy it. Little did I know what was to come!
