I got mad with how they tried blaming mike for people breaking in when he WAS NOT on the clock. It's five nights, not 24 hour shift at freddies. It made 0 sense.

I believe it's because he forgot to lock up everything and let people get in easily at daytime. If someone really wanted to get in (they did), it probably wouldn't make a difference, but he still has the responsibility to lock up, so he was made a scapegoat. To be fair, he was occupied with Vanessa and the ghosts of children who were stuffed into animatronic singing animal suits, so, I think it's ok. He's generally a flawed character who becomes a hero, which I love about his character!

yeah, this made the animatronics move at daytime, which further goes away from original lore (which is fine, just.. eh they couldve got in cuz max talked about his work, and he couldve said he slept at a certain time, and then they got in when they knew he was asleep, and then he wakes up when the animatronics are acting up killin people, and they almost got mike but 6am on the clock and so they stop/automatically go back to their places and scare the hell out of mike or sumthin)

@@l0ned1ver95due to the way the script was written, Mike wouldn't have brought Abby in if he knew they were capable of killing people. And we needed Abby to be in the building. So he couldn't know what they do - they had to kill when he wasn't around

I overheard another student at my college gushing about how much he loved it for like fifteen minutes straight, until either he or the person he was talking to had to leave. He was having the time of his damn life. I’m not into fnaf (not since middle school, at least) and I haven’t seen the movie, but I’m glad they made one. Just because it made some people as excited as that guy was. I’m glad I overheard them, because otherwise I’d still be thinking the movie was cringe. Hearing how happy he was reminded me that harmless joy is never cringe, so now whenever I think of the fnaf movie I think of him and it brightens my day a bit lol

Imo I think the movie would’ve been cooler if they did focus on the psychological aspects of the first game and Michael’s guilt of losing his brother. Since they’re planning on making more, the spring lock scene does feel a bit too early. Gore doesn’t always have to make something scary. It’s the uncomfortableness and ambiance that makes it terrifying

I loved it tbh, it's based on a game with open ended lore and questions. I think the movie did pretty well for being PG-13 AND the first ever movie for fnaf. Also I beleive William paused at his last name because he knew he k**led his little brother and I guess figured he could get him to which might be the reason why he switched up but idk

I feel like remembering that kids last name seems a little unlikely, also saw someone point out that where they were camping when Garret was kidnapped was far from where the movie takes place, so it sorta seems like William knew where they were and went out of his way to kidnap that specific kid, which adds to the theory that Mike is Henry Emily's son.

@@lamehouse Yes plus it seems kind of excessive for William to travel to a whole different state just to kidnap one child, when in the movie his method is to use the Freddy's location. He was also wearing a hoodie, not the suit he wears to kill. So it feels special, different than the rest. Now it could be a different reason, but given in the lore of the books and games we already have seen an example of it, it makes sense that Garret is the movie equivalent of Charlie.

i think vanessa being his daughter was meant to try and remake the familial structure that exists in the original lore, of the afton family and its members being involved in it all, especially william and his children. also vanny is a character who gets manipulated/charmed/fucked up by post-death william afton, so i think the idea of making her his dautgher makes that whole plot easier BUT they just didnt do that, they just referenced it when she hesitated going to save abby cuz of her dad.... i do agree, vanessa didnt have to be there, wayy too recent in the lore still, i think... not super knowledgeable i think they couldve gotten rid of the cupcake tho... thats not corny or just silly, it took me away from the movie, more than the guillotine ass bite that couldve been better if it was a crunch in the brain like they were referencing aaanndd, i feel like the horror vibe of fnaf, the claustrophobia and anxiety of resource management in order to protect yourself from dangers in any direction, is a bit lost in the movie :( however, the dream scenes from mike are like unintentional adaptations of the pixelated minigames from the games, telling stuff to the player, in this case the movie viewer and mike, that you couldnt possibly know otherwise, i guess

What I really would've liked to see was more dialogue between Mike and Abby where he specified the aunt's role in the custody battle. It would've helped tie Abby's determination to help her "friends" escape from the evil man by drawing a parallel between her and them. Instead of the cliche child resents their parental figure because of misunderstanding, it could've been a child resentful for the lack of autonomy Mike has, echoing his own resentments about his life and tying in to the symbolic nature of animatronics in the movie's universe. It could also have been used to endear Vanessa to Abby and Mike by seeing the same parallels in her life, helping the audience understand her shift in loyalty.

We had similar views :3 i think the lack of fight was acceptable because the animatronics aren't violent, they are children who were forced to be still and play the same songs they've known since that day (lol). But imo, I liked that it was similar to the games when the ghost children were just standing there as the springlocks activated. As a movie, it needed some more stimulation than just the pixels, so they had to add the building falling apart and whatnot.

As someone who went into this film knowing only the basics about FNAF - it was fine… it bugged me how rushed the ending was, the plot with the kidnapped brother never really being properly tied up (he was just kidnapped,, cause…. he was). Everything was just sorta dumped on you at the end, and though it was obvious what was coming more buildup would’ve been nice. There were certain scenes which were so bad that I couldn’t help but love them (when the little girl draws William Afton being evil). Wish it had been scarier… liked the music - a solid 5/10 or 6/10. I think the people who hate it either, like you said, wanted the movie to be super scary and gorey (which is dumb), or they wanted it to be a 1-for-1 with the games lore-wise, which IMO is also kind of unrealistic. Like, the franchise already isn't consistent lore-wise between the games and books, you really expected the movie to be consistent?? My coworker and I were talking about it, and as a long-time fan she initially hated it bc she went in as one of the latter kinds of fans, but then after a second watch she realized that she actually thought it was still a fun movie and was excited about being able to theorize about a different storyline.

I agree w pretty much everything you said. There is a gap in the market for teen horror content, which i think is a main reason why the og game was so beloved. My biggest criticism i guess you could call it is i feel like they wrote Abby to be significantly younger than the actress who plays her. I know 8-10 is still a young kid but 3rd-5th graders aren’t playing w blocks or coloring at school during class time, it just kinda took me out of a lot of the emotional beats.

As someone who has no idea of the lore (besides what my child was telling me during the movie) and my kiddo wanted to go so I took them, I have mostly the same criticisms tbh, besides the lore criticisms. My 13 year old was however upset there wasn’t more gore. 😂😂 I told them it was pg 13 so they couldn’t have more, and they were still upset lol. Vanessa didn’t make sense to me either. Like I knew she was added to give Mike more clues, but why? He could’ve figured it out himself. And I know they were setting it up for the second one when she was still in a coma, and hopefully that makes sense in the second one, but it did not to end the first one.

Like, if you're going to say you'll pew pew the guy, maybe give him a little idea of what's happening. Of all the times to stop dumping information at everyone's feet, it had to be now?) I wasn't mad about the PG-13 rating, more annoyed because I thought that would mean parents would find it appropriate to bring their really young kids to. I was right because I saw at least 2 kids the night I went and they couldn't have been older than 5 years old

But I had a lot of fun debating any little potential easter eggs and theories with my friend who was very familiar with FNAF (likely even more than me) throughout. My friend who was unfamiliar with it said it was bad but fun bad. To me I just kinda enjoyed it, not amazing but there were plenty of aspects I liked. Writing is unfortunately not one of them but I personally didn't mind the fact it didn't stick to "canon" considering how damn loose that is anyways.

I view the movie as an extension of the universe in the same context the books are, and something I really enjoyed about the movie I haven't seen talked about a lot is how the movie gets progressively more gorey. Like how in the beginning we didn't see blood for a while and then the deaths of the other characters were shown more and more until the springlock scene. What I think this means is that the sequel will be more gorey and probably have a higher rating than pg-13 and if they have more after that then they might have it get more gorey as the movies progress until its a rated R movie like how a lot of fans wanted

I genuinely feel bad for how much I hated this movie. As a fan of the games since 2014, I already had lower expectations bc of just how long this film was in talks and then production. My biggest issue isn’t their lack of accuracy to the lore, it’s that many of the changes they made had no real utility to the story, and (even worse) the implications of some of those changes are downright AWFUL! This didn’t feel like a movie that was made FOR the FNAF fans, it felt like they wanted to tell a completely different story but wanted a preexisting fanbase for it. I stg, if you take the FNAF brand away from this movie, I wouldn’t have known a thing. With the experience I had of seeing this in the theater on Halloween- fans of the games were bored and irritated, and non-fans of the games were bored and confused. I did really enjoy the animatronics and design of the film, it was amazing! And the actors did their best with the script they got. The cameos were cool, but I wish there was more given to the actual story, as opposed to a “twist,” exposition dump, and non-conclusion at the end. The largest issue with the film as a FILM, is that it doesn’t know what it wants to be. The tonal disconnect was so jarring and not in a good way or an intentionally uncomfortable way. It was just poorly written. I think the subplots should’ve been completely cut, along with all the characters in those subplots. The film was too cluttered and convoluted when it didn’t have to be.
@ThinkGoofier
@ThinkGoofier 7 ай бұрын
Okay but in defense of them, the movie is an entirely separate universe (pretty sure it was confirmed?). Much like the books, the movie wasn't meant to exactly match the previous lore. To me, it felt like a silly little thing to bring us nostalgia and also bring a different storyline to the table. The set was amazing but I wish they had brought more of the game play into the movie too BUT, realistically, a person would literally never keep working a job if robots were out to get them every night they stayed there. I personally adored the plot. It felt like I was a kid again, making theories on who the killer might be. If they made a movie that followed the lore it would've been too predictable and it's a story I'd heard of dozens of times before. The reason FNAF became so big was partly because of it's mysteriousness and the flexibility that the game gave to coming up with your own conclusions and theories. Having a movie that confirmed it all would've made me.. bored. Of course your points are valid. I understand where you're coming from and I do agree with you. It could've been better but that's the same for pretty much any movie.
@cristenkray5192
@cristenkray5192 7 ай бұрын
@@ThinkGoofier you’re 100% correct that it’s not a film that realistically could’ve maintained the gameplay aspect. Honestly, I wouldn’t want it to bc the game is strictly relegated to that one room and there’s only so much a film audience can take of the monotony, especially in a film like this. I think the storyline was hit or miss, but I’m glad a lot of ppl actually enjoyed it! I think for me, I needed something that was more consistent in tone. Now, I did love the scenes of them being in a silly goofy mood! I just wish they were in a different movie… and for the lore, I have no problem with them changing things, especially bc a lot of the lore is just fans having to come up with shit and collectively convince everyone to agree to it. My issue with the lore of the FILM is that, as I mentioned, the implications of some of those changes are TERRIBLE! (For example, the ghost children being influenced by William Afton & being kinda malevolent when it came to Abby and Mike, also, the fact that Abby had been talking to them for YEARS at this point?). Things like that. Also, Vanessa pissed me off a bit too much- her character makes no sense, even once we find out ab her. William makes even less sense and is TOO cartoonishly evil. It kinda gave a much darker version of “I would’ve gotten away with it if it weren’t for you meddling kids and your rotten animatronic friends” which was NOT good at all. I think adapting something inherently means you have to change parts of it, but this one made things so unnecessary for no reason, which is why I really didn’t think it was made FOR the fans. Putting Easter eggs and familiar parts of a franchise into a project doesn’t necessarily mean it’s made for the fans, it home just means they wanted the fanbase to show up & increase box office numbers. But that’s absolutely just MY experience with it. I’m so glad it’s been this successful and had a lot of people come out to support it! I think a sequel is possible, but it’s not one that’s set up super well based on the conclusion of this one.

I just really dont think they understood the assignment. FNAF lore is too dense and convoluted to portray in only a handful of films so I understand changing things, but I dont think the movie gets what makes the games even mildly unsettling let alone genuinely scary. There was very little sense of atmosphere or intrigue as the animatronics and the pizzareia spend most of the runtime being completely lit and the whole mystery of the missing children incident is just explained directly to us. There was no feeling that Mike is confined to single space that he has to sit in with limited options as he is being closed in on. The animatronics eyes not only glow red but they make malicious expressions which could only ever be extremely goofy. It just didnt get what the series strengths were and just relied on its strong imagery without understanding what made the imagery strong to begin with

Hi I haven't watched the FNAF movie yet but here are my thoughts. I genuinely believe it would of been really hard for this movie to have a concise plot since a) the game franchise hasn't finished yet and b) there's like over 20 tie-in books. I'm gonna be honest I have a hard time following the plot to the games but I enjoyed them up until SB. the games plot is pretty simple ( with-out reading of the books) but they don't have compelling game play. I know Scott never intended to go beyond the first game but we still don't have concise time-line and I think every-one just goes with their own head cannon and everyone unanimously agreed. also I have a genuine question how did everyone connect that mikes name is mike and he's related to Afton ( in the games)? again I like the games but not well versed in the lore. also I think everyone kind of agreed when the first movie dropped that this was gonna be Afton luring his son in to the pizza plex but the inclusion of Vanessa kind of messed things up if they were gonna adapt more games in my opinion

Hello! old fan here. So to your Mike question, it all happened in the books, and later in Sister Location (fnaf 5). We learned about William Afton in the first novel trilogy, and back then people were conflicted (just as we are now), as to whether or not the books were canon to the games. However it all changed in Sister Location. The intro to the game is someone asking about Circus Baby's design to a man they call "Mr. Afton". We later confirm his first name is William in either Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator (fnaf 6) or Ultimate Custom Night, when he is credited as "William Afton". In the game we play as a guy named Mike, as his name is written on Hand Unit. At the very end of the game, with the main ending, Mike has a monologue where he says "Father, it's me, Micheal" and you can look up his SL ending speech. There are many clues as to how we know William owns the SL bunker where the game takes place, and is Mike's father, but the biggest obvious one is that at the end of his speech, Springtrap (William Afton after dying) appears on screen. EDIT: Forgot to say, in Mike's monologue, he says "I'm going to come find you" and THEN William appears, in his design of Fnaf 3, implying that game is Micheal trying to find his father. So that's how we know Mike in the games is an Afton. How we know he is the older brother in FNaF 4, is another rabbit hole. I recommend watching at least some of The Game Theorists old videos because they show the way we came across this information. If there's one thing I can disagree with you on, it's that they should or shouldn't follow the game story. I don't think it's necessary to enjoy it. The books don't follow the game canon either (not talking about tales of the pizzaplex), so it makes sense the movie wouldn't either. It's fine

I don’t think Abby was taking to the ghost children before she went to the restaurant. She just had imaginary friends because she didn’t have real ones. She didn’t start drawing them or things from Mike’s dreams till she goes to work with him. It’s pretty unclear though. The weird gears in the death mask are how the masks on all the animatronics attach to the endoskeletons. Which is also unclear and I think you’d only know about if you watched some behind-the-scenes stuff. I like the movie but some things that should have been more ambitious were info dumped. Then other things that needed to be explained or explored weren’t.

@graysonsprojects In the game lore, he's Micheal afton, going under Mike smit or however its spelt. Vanessa is just the security guard for the fnaf security breach. That's why Mike is the security guard for the games and he's the reason why some of the fnaf buildings got burnt down. He's going around working as the security guards in the games.

I've never liked FNaF, I've always felt it was a bargain basement kiddie horror that has gotten WAY too much attention. It's lore is openly a mess, it revolves around a videogame with a very limited gimmick, and the creator is a known right-wing conservative and donates to causes that politically go against what I believe. I feel like the movie adaptation's plot was very scattershot, it wasn't even really horror... Focusing way more on drama. How anyone can walk away from the FNaF movie feeling like they've seen a good "horror" movie has a very loose definition of horror. It's like comparing apples and oranges, but "The Marvels" is being dragged through the mud right now for being a huge disappointment... But... It is definitely technically a better film from a storytelling standpoint, an acting standpoint, so forth. This abysmal horror film is coasting entirely on overly eager fan expectations.
