Chris doesn’t need to be funny in every movie. He plays the character. If the character is serious then the character is serious. Doesn’t matter who plays him. He played it greatly. Keep watching the series and you’ll see. The plot is crisp, fighting is great. It’s a sentimental and fucked up series. Not a comedy

The show actually gets better from episode 2. True, not every detail from the book made it to the series but it was still top notch. Amazing series.

I think you missed the mark on Pratt's acting. To me he finally elevated his acting game. Every time he does the jokey, look at me I'm Chris Pratt, it is basically you watching him not the character he's supposed to be portraying.

Having watched 5 episodes so far, I feel like Pratt's performance makes a lot more sense AFTER the events of the first episode. The first episode dialogue does hit kinda weird, and not "real". But I actually like the series a lot, not because it's Pratt's best performance or anything, but because of everything else. Honestly the reasons I like this show a lot have almost nothing to do with the actor playing James Reece. Chris Pratt's greatest contribution to this show is probably being an executive producer and helping it get name recognition for Amazon's greenlight.

I disagree. He's playing a serious role in this series. That it bothers you so much just goes to show how good of an actor he is. You just lost your team your wife and daughter would you be smiling and joking and laughing? I have to agree with Tim Kennedy on this one it's a great well-written show.

I watched all 8 episodes. The revenge scenes make his seriousness better.

The reason for his seriousness is awkward because we don't yet have the background that he's also already having headaches. So he's concerned and trying to focus. This is a problem of going from book to tv and being unable to communicate that to people who haven't even recently read the opening novel.

I thought Chris did a phenomenal job! I however respect the opinion you two have! After reading the book 2 times I think they did a great job adapting it to the the screen!

I definitely think you guys are having a hard time separating Chris Pratt the man from this particular role I actually very much enjoyed the show and I think having former Seals as backgrounds actors really helped the feel of the show

They explained the the tunnels blocked radio, they had to dayse chain the comms using direct line of sight from the tunnel entrance. When the tunnel entrance got attacked they lost coms. The only other spot they could reaquire communication and call for backup was the tunnel exit after the tripwire.

Once you guys watch the whole series, some of the things you were talking about are going to seem different. Without giving spoilers, even small things like the hot pan part are different now that I know the story

Dudes has ALOT of stamina. You'll see it gets better. I completely lost in thought, but the short term memory lost is so f**king frustrating. Excpecially at work, because you feel the judgment

I used to train dogs for a living and still train a little. You're right, he would've hit on the odor, not the wire. The head gear can have comms, earpro, a camera etc. I've never used anything other than earpro. I think they just wanted him to look tacticool.

Man idk I personally like seeing Chris doing something outside what he's known for. Think alot of people watched with the expectation of it having those funny Pratt moments when that just Isn't James resse from the books.

There's actually a explanation for why he might be robotic when it comes to the trauma of the situation and why he might be less emotional. Explanation comes a few episodes in

Get Kurt back for these breakdowns, he's so much more funny and personable and actually willing to go along with you on your tangents and breakdowns. The chemistry is just flat out better with Kurt in my opinion.

PTSD is different for everyone. I haven’t watched the show, but Pratt being serious is probably Acute Stress Disorder which is the precursor to PTSD. ASD when recognized, treated quickly, and aggressively can sometimes be prevented from becoming PTSD, or minimize the effects of PTSD. Typically if symptoms persist longer than six months the diagnosis changes from ASD to PTSD, ASD behavior can often be erratic and unpredictable settling into triggers as it transitions into PTSD as we learn coping mechanisms. The character may be intended to be portraying the near constant Lizard Brain existence many experience immediately after a traumatic event. I can only speak for myself, but when I lost five men in Iraq it broke me completely, I lost all confidence in myself and the fucked up part is I know we did it right. I’ve come along way in understanding PTSD and myself since that day, buy my god that first year I nearly self checked out several times.

To be fair, I think you guys should do another B & B after watching the entire series. Don't forget is this is a show not and after action report lol

Just because he does a lot of comedy doesn’t mean that’s all he has to do otherwise that’s completely type casting for his whole career. This series shows his acting capabilities great that he is playing a different kind of character and does it brilliantly if you keep watching you will see. The character is this way and that’s who he’s playing. Also when he calls his wife it’s just after what happened so grief is done differently not that same by two separate people especially with shock and still trying to comprehend what happened.

You can be known as the comedian/funny guy and no one will take you serious if you play serious action roles. I think Pratt knocked it out the park. There were certainly some questionable scenes. Especially the SEAL poser stolen valor dude🤣

You’ll see. I almost felt the same, read all of Jack’s books so huge fan, but it makes sense after 2. The show is dark and edgy. Chris does a great job and they do a great job of adapting his book at the end.

Loved the show. I agree the beginning sequence didn't make sense from a tactical perspective but when you figure out what's going on with all these SEALs then it makes sense why the operation went south so quickly.

As a gun loving, constant flat range larping civilian running around in kit, I disagree we don’t care about the kit/gear in shows. Maybe not most, but plenty of us do. It’s not just vets that only care about that kinda stuff

It starts off slow, but it gets way better.

I just finished the series and it was really good, it was weird at first seeing chris play a serious role, but he did really good tho. Great show

I’ve worked with Bomb dogs and tracking dogs and I’ve seen doggles and ear muffs used for helo rides but I’ve never seen that sort of full on dog helmet. I’ve also seen muzzles used for fast roping or free falling dogs but usually they’re off when they hit the ground. Same with the muffs and doggles in the helo.

It gets better, especially the action scenes, but it still falls short. Constance Wu had her Tom Cruise “did you order that Code Red” moment and her acting was absolutely terrible in that scene.

It does get better and some of the things you didn't like in episode 1 make more sense after a few more episodes. Like the hot pan. Keep up the good work guys

Loved it.. 10/10. I love how he has showed he isn't stuck in a box, or type casted. Watch the whole thing in 2 nights because I had to stop and get sleep.

Loved the show from start to finish- It was great to see Chris outside the funny element.

The writing does hit a little weird. I'm on like episode 6. It's still a little meh in my opinion. Question though, in the tunnels what would the difference between using white light and IR illuminators be? Which do you think would be better? Or am I mistaken about the illuminators? If they all had NODs of course... I don't think they all had NODs in that scene.

-It's not the same as the book, as a matter of fact, it's a COMPLETELY different Reece. The Reece in the book is very very different. - it's DOES get a lot better. Hang in there. - Please do the next reviews with the other guy. This civilian guy is...🤐

As many others have already commented - Without spoilers, the look/feel/behaviour of the characters makes a looot more sense after a few episodes.

"The Old Man" on FX with Jeff Bridges is pretty good so far (also on HULU). Basically he's playing a senior citizen Jason Bourne. So maybe that's not quite special operator stuff, but it's pretty good.

The series gets wayyyy better . You'll realize from episode 2 onwards that his performance was really good , and that humor was not the way to go for this one . Keep watching it you'll get to appreciate it more

How was the scene in the tunnels in any way even remotely confusing? Find the daisy chain, try to back out, get cut off by a massive incoming force (tactical and all), retreat to try and find another way out of the tunnels, and the noob panics and hits the trip wire.

yeah ptsd, people think its all war. It can be small things it can be big things ive read ur book and gave me a whole view of you as a person. Youve been through a lot of shit, but you dont cry about it and use your past as an excuse. You move on and youve done and are still doing amazing stuff for people. Just having you online to see and sell stuff to help us and give knowledge youve helped me way more than if i never saw you. Thank you!

I haven't watched the series yet, but I loved Chris Pratt in zero dark 30, and always figured he would have been the perfect actor to ay Chris Kyle in American sniper. I also love the director Antoine Fuqua from films like training day or shooter with Marky Mark, great movies, but I was wondering how their different styles of movie making would mesh. I hope the remaining episodes get better and better

One other thing, people have different effects to PTSD, so Chris Pratts performance was really good

Guys, imagine there’s an artist that paints this one particular picture and he is not allowed to paint anything else but that one picture over and over again. But he wants to try other scenes but people just want him to paint that one picture because he’s so good at it. The guy has so much more artistic ability but people have trapped him into that one role of painting that particular picture. That’s what you’re doing here with Chris and his acting “range”. You’ve pigeonholed him into being that funny guy. But the thing is he obviously wants to spread his wings and give something else a try. Try to see the character he’s playing and the motivations that lead to him doing what he does then maybe you’ll have a better appreciation of his acting skills and the role he plays in the show.

I hate it when people say stuff like this but you have to make it to episode 3. I think everything thats revealed is the reason for his demeanor

Many things done differently or were excluded that the book presented or had, or INCLUDED that never occurred in the book. 1) The SEAL team was ambushed in a valley on a mountainside heading into a small town that was not occupied. They never took contact, IED's (placed by the CIA) were activated and killed the majority of the team, save James and Boozer. 2) James saw Boozer's body. They did not clear the body in time before he arrived. 3) You don't get to meet Ben (Reece's former team buddy and CIA agent) until after his family is killed. 4) Reece's family is murdered before he gets to see them. His wife was pregnant with their second child, and his daughter was only about 4 or 5. They were killed hiding in a closet and his wife having expended the magazine of her own personal sidearm. 5) Reece did not get his head checked till much later in the progression of the story. And he would not be approached by any hitmen in the process. More importantly, his head check would only come after the doctor in Afghanistan does a quick MRI on his head, after noticing a particular trend with the entire team having a malignant tumor in their brain. The doctor would, subsequently, get killed by Private Assets. 6) The FBI is never involved in the story. Nor was there ever any legitimate chase, or any kind of investment. The FBI never actively investigated or even pursued Reece. 7) The News Reporter, Katie, was actually an old friend of Reece, and was Slavic, not Asian. Katie's Father and Reece's Father knew each other, and it was Reece's Father that got Katie and her family out of their former Soviet Occupied home country (Romania, if I remember correctly). Katie's Father was a high ranking military official who was providing information to the CIA through Reece's dad. Which is why they were evacuated. 8) The first kill was Josh Holder, but he didn't work for NCIS. He worked directly under Capstone as a Contractor. He never woke up, never admitted to anything, and his saved files in the laptop in his room provided sufficient evidence to Reece that the conspiracy was true and gave him the Causus Belli to act. He was killed while he slept and was portrayed as having committed suicide. 9) The second kill (who is played by Jack Carr himself) was not a Capstone Contractor, but a sleeper cell extremist who was plying by as a cab driver and college student. He was given James Reece as his target package by a CIA handler (Ben). However, both kill scenes are the same. 10) The third kill was, actually, an Imam in connection with the CIA, the DoD and Capstone who, taking the money from investments, was funding terror cells and prolonging the conflicts in particular regions necessitating US involvement through third party financial funding. Reece would kill, then behead said Imam. It would put Reece out on the map by Secretary Lorraine. 11) Secretary Lorraine is portrayed as, seemingly, single and wishing to use the bad situation from Reece's failed op as a means to better provide medicinal protection for PTSD. The book portrayal is a woman who seeks more political power, with a possible presidential bid, money in returns from Capstone Medicinal investments, and covering up her husbands own deviancies (including a multitude of sexual scandals, which ruined his presidential bid many years before). 12) The fourth kill was the Wall Street investor. To which, yes, his investments and money laundering led to the specific Cartel members paid to make the hit. The kill was specifically made to look like an accidental death from a hunter's long round. Considering that Montana was in the midst of Elk Season. 13) At this point, Reece is feeding information to Katie, while also continually cooperating with Ben and obtaining further intel. Ben holds no qualms about any of this, and seems oddly thrilled about helping Reece perform the work. Whereas tv show Ben seems to show qualms and a bit of moral issue, but resolved to bring Reece's family's killers to justice. 14) Reece heads to Mexico, in which his long time Hispanic family friend, chases down and finds the Cartel Members. Which they're operating from a gated 3 story multi-room building (which he takes by himself), rather than a compound with multiple buildings and an abandoned mine (to which he and Ben take down with a few Hispanic buddies). 15) Reece proceeds to Coachella where, of course, he kills Saul Agnon (who is more akin to a cowardly weasel than a very outwardly confident businessman in the show). He, of course, spills all the beans on everything and everyone that he knows about, and is eventually killed with a drug overdose and copious amounts of alcohol in his system. 16) Reece does not kill Steve Horn separately, nor outside of Capstone's HQ. He kills him alongside Ben and Senator Lorraine at Lorraine's Husband's Private Mansion in Rhode Island. 17) Reece never gets involved with a police chase, nor has to go through the mountains to evade and escape. 18) Mike Tedesco fled, with his family, to Florida to evade Reece after finding out that a significant proportion of the co-conspirators were either dead or had been found out. He would be kidnapped by Reece, taken to an obscure location in the swamp lands, gutted, told to walk with his intestines dangling, and left to die for the critters, creepers and gators of the swamplands. The TV Show would portray Tedesco as trying to reveal the plot and ploys of Capstone, and getting killed by one of Horn's own contractors. Katie would survive the encounter, though she never made contact with any of the conspirators. 19) After Tedesco, Reece would return to Coronado to gain vengeance on his command element. The same method is used, JAG Officer Captain Howard would be used as a suicide bomber in return for his family's safety. While he, Admiral Pillar (who was practically the same, but the book reveals he's about the prestige of the Special Operations, rather than actually performing as Special Operations. More of a piece of shit as the book reveals, a real bureaucrat), and his team commander Cox, would die in said explosion. There was no conversation, just Reece telling them he knew and that they were dead men. 20) His next kill would be performed in the streets of New York City with the kinetic IED. And it would be Lorraine's Husband. While leaving one of many luxurious hotels and another beautiful woman behind, he would enter his limousine bound for the airport after being requested to return to his private estate in Rhode Island. Reece would perform the bombing in a van directly next to said limousine and would kill Lorraine's husband outright. The book would describe that the Veteran limo driver survives and describes the death in visceral detail. Reece would escape, again, without catching anyone's notice. 21) Finally. Reece would attempt to catch Horn at one of his private homes, but would find the location empty. A Navy SEAL team would be dispatched to apprehend Reece, alongside Capstone Contractors and some FBI agents, but there wouldn't be a chase. Reece would slink away before they had the chance to encircle and capture him. 22) Reece discovers that Ben is one of the "wild cards" that had no name on the list after said attempt at apprehension (since Ben was the only one who knew about that specific op). He would no longer trust Ben and would fly to Rhode Island, take a boat loaned by an old friend for his final kill op. He would enter the mansion, undiscovered, and find Ben, Steve and Lorraine all surrounding a captured and very distressed Katie Buranek with a copious amount of explosive det cord around her neck, and Ben holding an apparent kill switch. To which they try to strike a deal of his killing himself, where they'd let her go free. A preplaced explosive would detonate, killing security staff outside, and giving sufficient time for Reece to put a 5.56 in Lorraine, Steve and Ben's head respectively. Outside of those major plot points, however, the show was as good as the book, and made me tear up a few times. I can't imagine losing my wife and daughter and having them taken in such a horrendous and violent manner... And I can only hope in having the strength and animalistic drive that Reece has to exact vengeance on those who would dare to do such a thing. Edit: I forgot to add this as well. Throughout the show, James Reece begins to portray a more aggressive, violent, and even unloving nature towards close friends and relative family. Like the killing is turning him more into a monster rather than a loving, grieved father and husband seeking vengeance against conspirators. The book, on the other hand, portrays him constantly in a moral quandary between the man he was and honoring himself, his family and his friends as a SEAL first and foremost, and becoming the monster and insurgent that he, for years, fought to destroy, in order to bring down those responsible for the death of his family and team. He absolutely understood that, at the end, there was no going back to any form of normal life. He'd be a fugitive. But, considering that he was also seeing himself a dead man due to his tumor, he figured that he wouldn't be a fugitive for very long. He'd either die in the attempt, or die from the tumor after completing his mission. Essentially, he was on a suicide mission.

I watched all episodes within two days. Finally a great series with character building, great acting, suspence and actual direction

As a civilian, I definitely appreciate you guys pointing out inaccuracies in the dialogue/terminology and tactics in these shows and movies. Some of us do care/notice. Why? Some of it is applicable to civilian self/home/active shooter defense or survival and navigation skills. If someone does something in a movie that is actually more, not less, likely to get themselves killed I’d like to know about it. Additionally, if I ever need to get rescued by our boys and girls in green, I’d like to be only a 95% liability while getting rescued, not 100%. Of course movies aren’t the only (and far from the best) vehicle available for civilian training, but they do have a special way of getting tactics seared into one’s brain… for better or for worse… and so I’d like for them to be accurate. I really wasn't sure about this show at first but by the end of the second episode I was hooked and by the end of it I feel like Chris was awesome as a serious character. Plus it's probably good that he is branching out so he isn't stuck doing only comedy.

It's a story about a man who loses all his friends and his family is massacred, so ofcoarse his character has to be serious. 😂

I have two immediate family mambers that were recently Special forces. My uncle was Sargent Major, and his son just retired staff Sargent Green beret.Both from Fort Bragg. Love your channel. Abel seems perpetually pissed off with the fact that he's always been a civilian.

MY only gripe about this movie is the way some of the actors move tactically. You can tell they were trained by real spec ops veterans, but some of their movements are what people use when on a flat range shooting steel and paper, and not at people shooting back at you. Like checking your left and right deliberately after finishing a drill. People who run pistol drills know what I mean. And when you can argue that its how you are taught, its also not how you move when getting shot at. It's more hasty

I’m 19, not in the military nor do I plan on being in the military. But I’m telling you, I CARE IF A MOVIE OR SHOW IS TACTICALLY CORRECT!!! Idk much about being tactical but I can appreciate a film that pushes realism from a tactical standpoint. It’s why I watch these kinds of reviews. I don’t give a fuk about what a movie critic on google has to say lmao.

The Terminal List FINALLY made me really take Pratt seriously as an actor. It's probably his best work. He's finally made the transition to 'Adult' characters like John Krasinski did. He was the jokey typecast character from The Office, and then he became the serious older actor we see today portraying a grizzled former operator in Benghazi and then on to portraying Jack Ryan. I was an early test audience for Pratt's last 'serious' project, The Tomorrow War, and Terminal List was a big step up.

13:01 Considering they're in a gunfight, in a cave like environment..And people with unsuppressed weapons shooting back at them.(which I naturally assume gives off a helluva an echo) I suspect they would have serious problem hearing him

no comment about having a gun/knife fight in an MRI room where supposedly they brought his gun into the room to make it look like suicide even though the gun would never be allowed in there, let alone hospital staff, cameras, machine logs, like that it was taking images while the doc died

Hey about that PTSD thing. I used be a bit like that aswell but for me it was more like remembering every time the bullies in my school used to make me feel weak. i just remembered and spaced out and came back, and it wasnt untill i adapted a whole new mindset calloused over my mind with hard work that it kinda stoppet. gotta thank goggins for that one. for me it was weird because i knew i would demolish these people that were bothering me but they were all connected and they would gang up on people so i was not really weak but i wasnt strong either didnt have friends. i stayed out of trouble and my life was stressful enough without it. looking back and seeing that i never was able to get into the military or become a cop (you need like really high grades to become a cop in this country btw like damn near a 4.0. ) so staying outta of trouble didnt really do much for me other then not adding to the stress for my parents. i think they would have gotten bored and stoppet doing it if i had just not given a F and gotten my ass beat everyday at school at some point they prob would have more respect and or gotten bored with me. but nope i chose not to rock the boat. i rambled on sorry ty for reading, PTSD comes from many sources
