I've seen a lot of people commenting here about if it would be safe to use these as an impromptu paintball/airsoft replacement. As a member of the airsoft community I have to put on my safety hat and say hell no. Use a tool designed for purpose. If people start doing war games with real guns loaded with "safe" ammunition, eventually some idiot will accidentally leave a real bullet in the gun and someone will get killed. The rules of gun safety "Never point a gun at something you don't intend to shoot" and "Every gun is always loaded" are there for exactly that reason. If you want to shoot your friends get an Airsoft or Paintball gun and use the appropriate protective gear.

Violet_Shift - I also agree. This may be an appropriate use for training (against inanimate targets), but it's not appropriate for paintball/Nerfwar/Airsoft games. Always use the right tool for the job!

@neo nero I'm not advocating for the use of real guns with earplug bullets in airsoft, but the circumstances of Brandon Lee's death were different. "Actor Michael Massee's character fires a .44 Magnum revolver at Lee as he walks into the room.[16] A previous scene using the same gun had called for inert dummy cartridges fitted with bullets (but no powder or primer) to be loaded in the revolver for a close-up scene; for film scenes that utilize a revolver (where the bullets are visible from the front) and do not require the gun to actually be fired, dummy cartridges provide the realistic appearance of actual rounds. Instead of purchasing commercial dummy cartridges, the film's prop crew created their own by pulling the bullets from live rounds, dumping the powder charge then reinserting the bullets. However, they unknowingly or unintentionally left the live primer in place at the rear of the cartridge. At some point during filming, the revolver was apparently discharged with one of these improperly-deactivated cartridges in the chamber, setting off the primer with enough force to drive the bullet partway into the barrel, where it became stuck (a condition known as a squib load). The prop crew either failed to notice this or failed to recognize the significance of this issue. In the fatal scene, which called for the revolver to be fired at Lee from a distance of 3.6-4.5 meters (12-15 feet), the dummy cartridges were exchanged with blank rounds, which feature a live powder charge and primer, but no bullet, thus allowing the gun to be fired without the risk of an actual projectile. But since the bullet from the dummy round was already trapped in the barrel, this caused the .44 Magnum bullet to be fired out of the barrel with virtually the same force as if the gun had been loaded with a live round, and it struck Lee in the abdomen, mortally wounding him"

If you really are wanting to get a good airsoft gun you have to be ready to spend some cash. If you want a halfway decent airsoft gun you might have to spend $100-150 for a gun that can shoot accurately at 20-50 yards.

So I used an earplug in the end of my M16 in Iraq to keep the fine silica powdered sand out of my barrel. Firing a round easily clears the foam stoppage, which offers minimal resistance. While this is a big rule breaker insofar as barrel obstruction, the value of no sand in an M16 outweighed the concern. This applies ONLY to an item with that offers the same ratio of resistance to force as foam, and the earplug was readily available. I now use one in the end of my .380 carry that lives on my ankle. The barrel is exposed to ground dirt constantly, but the earplug keep the carrier group clean. Now I see a whole new use for them THANK YOU, and NICE HOLSTER !!! Nice Ruger, too.

I tried it with my 44 mag. Works well. I use regular cases that I normally reload. I also tried it with full charge of gunpowder behind the ear plugs. I used 10 grains of unique which is what is normally called for on that particular gun powder over a 240 grain bullet. What surprise me even more is that a full charge of gunpowder had very little additional effect. The only difference was that I was able to fully penetrate one layer of cardboard and sometimes two. The earplug showed very little burning they could easily be reused to fire again but a waste of gunpowder since just using the primers was 90% as effective alone.

Powder only has a certain max amount of power before it just becomes added kick and burn off. That is why when using my musket, I load only 60grains, if I did 100 I'd just hurt my shoulder and waste powder.
@EthanPDobbins
@EthanPDobbins 5 жыл бұрын
@@EvilStepDad_ me too. I load a .490 round ball with a .10 patch over 52.4 grains and it shoots just fine. 80 grains will add more power but 100 is just wasteful.

Density of foam may by high enough to gyro- spin it fast.(Captain Obvious ) Smooth bore may not be accurate after 1ft Maybe some field test? I enjoy your production value, humble tone and obvious enthusiasm for the stuff. It comes across as genuine. I doubt i am representative of the audience, but I can say the videos of yours most interesting to me are going to be the oddball things. Funky archery, strange calibers, practical comparisons of silenceers, uncommon ammo types. While your videos on other topics are good, It might not be worth your effort to be one of the dozen reviews of the next gen Pmag or whatever on the same week. I recall from a previous chat you said that the ballistic testing wasn't paying off. Maybe so, but I really liked the 300 BO cast lead and other less common bullet comparisons. No one else had that covered. On the other hand if you were testing hornady critical duty 9mm, there are dozens who are set up to be more scientific. I'd watch your video and find it to look nicer than brass fetcher, TNOD9, shootingthebull410 etc, but I'd watch theirs first and more closely. Also, I greatly appreciate publication of negative results. i.e. your vid on the the bowmag. I would pay much more attention to a magpull fanboy saying that one of their stocks is over-priced, or has some other flaw than I would to the next gushing torrent of enthusiasm from Sootch00. Perhaps a series on negative suppressor experiences? That would be valuable to me. I would like to buy in the next year or two, and I can't afford to get a crummy one. I can't recall ever seeing a single negative review video on youtube, but there are plenty of forum posts from people with problems... So there's a void there to fill. Feel free to take my input with a pound or two of salt.

GunFun ZS I appreciate you taking the time to post this. I know you put a lot of thought into it. You point out a few things that I can address: 1. I have fun with the oddball stuff, but I really like doing the T&E. If you watch my reviews of the same products others are doing, hopefully you see that I take things deeper. That's absolutely the feedback I get from the manufacturers themselves. In fact, I've had at least 4 of them tell me that I taught them something about how their own product works that they didn't know even though they designed it. :) That's as good as it gets for me. 2. I pre-screen everything before taking it in for T&E, and I'm not trying to be Consumer Reports. I hate putting my time into a video on something I can't recommend, and it's simply a statistical fact that "meh" reviews just don't get very many views. Bad reviews of interesting products are different, though, and something I have done and will still do, but in the end, I can only do one video per week. I'd rather spend my time working with something I can get excited about than something I don't really care for. On another note, anything NFA is never going to be high volume because the process is sooooo long. I'm honestly just not going to go through it all, including paying the $200 tax, for a product I'm not 100% certain I'll love in the end. So, you'll never see a negative silencer review here unless I made a horrible mistake. I hope this makes sense.

I said I wouldn't, you can do whatever you want that's questionable to your health as it doesn't affect me. I've seen lead poisoning first hand and it's not something you would ever wish upon someone else, even an enemy. Granted such small exposure such as in the ear or pellets in the mount most likely wouldn't ever do anything, still I wouldn't recommend it if you have other options.Foster Rich

For safety and fun light weight "slugs" make a lot of sense. I use wax plugs with primers only for that kind of fun. Melt canning wax and pour it into a cookie sheet until it's about 1/2 inch deep or less. Lightly oil the outside of primer-less cartridges. Stand them side by side (primer hole up) and let cool. The wax doesn't stick to the outside of the cartridges so they slide right out. Prime them, put on your safety equipment and have fun. The wax plugs drift less than the earplug "bullets" because of the added weight. The weight also allows for more action shooting like plinking tin cans and such. The soft wax might leave a small bruise (in theory) because it can dent on a soda can. Clean up is simple and for a bonus, it leaves a perfect print of your rifling on the plug.

If you wet the ends it will go farther and more accurately due to the weight, some are fluorescent so try putting a black like near the path. I used ear plugs in my paint ball guns, they swell up to fit when they are good and wet, sting a bit but will travel around 35 feet or more. We used larger foam plugs that had to be ram rodded into the muzzle of the paint ball guns and we played at night, it was some of the most fun I have ever had. Safe at any distance, even in the face.

I had some soft rubber bullets back in the 80's. I had to enlarge the flash holes with a drill. I built a bullet catcher using a cardboard box, with four wood dowels evenly spaces across the top of the box and hung four old bath towels from the dowels. I was surprised at how much power just using a primer alone was... I stopped doing it, because it made the casings and the gun extremely dirty.

Many years ago I heard of using wax has a practice round. The procedure was to melt wax into a baking sheet to the desired depth of bullet. Then take your re-primed shells and push them into the wax cookie-cutter style to "load" the bullet. No need for special wax bullets, but I suppose yours you can a bag of them to the range and reload at will. Nice video, BTW.
@TWANGnBANG
@TWANGnBANG 7 жыл бұрын
The reason for the pre-made wax bullets is that they have some polymer in them to increase their melting temp. It makes them much less likely to melt during transport or in your loaded rounds waiting to shoot.

Well, considering an airsoft rifle would chew trough that cardboard in no time. I think it's safe to say these earplug rounds are pretty much harmless. I'd have no problem letting someone shoot me at 10 yards with one. Might sting a little, but i bet airsoft hurts worse. A direct hit in the eye might cause some damage though.
