having worked with fiberglass aircraft parts using a 40grit on a large variable speed to get thous bubbles out and then using Bondo and a 120 grit with the same sander you might be able to get a better product down the road all and all you did pretty dame good for your first time but Bondo is your best friend

I live in CNY! Guess I will have to wait to build mine since you whipped out the local market!

Haha, I did this a few months ago though so you should be ok now. I have also used Tap Plastics but they are in California and shipping is expensive.

Measure once cut twice LOL. For a first-time job it looks excellent.

Hey man I’m also around the NY area! I was wondering if I could pay you for your knowledge on how you did this build because I’m looking to make one as well. Maybe I could take you and the family out for food if you’re still in the area 🙃

Why didn't you use Bondo to get it smooth? Is a lot easier to get a smooth finish.
@JamesKlafehn
@JamesKlafehn 4 жыл бұрын
Bondo is not reliable. It might stick initially but it will not remain in place. It will flake and break off when on fiberglass. I didn’t try it myself but many experts told me that bondo would end horribly.

LOL. Ya ok. We use it on helicopters composites shop and it has not failed on my 30 year old doors. Sure don’t put on thick, but it smooths nicely. Use the right tool/ product for the job.

helieasy Believe me, I would’ve much preferred to have used Bondo. I should’ve tested it but multiple experts had convinced me that it was a bad idea.

I’m looking to do an epoxy job on my camper build. How much resin did it take?
@JamesKlafehn
@JamesKlafehn 4 жыл бұрын
I forget, a lot. I think 4 jugs of hardener and 8 of resin. It was a 2/1 mix

How many coats total did you do?
@JamesKlafehn

Of what? Of fiberglass just one

Yes it looked like you put on many coats of fiberglass but maybe I'm not saying it right. Maybe how many coats of resin over the fiberglass
@JamesKlafehn
@JamesKlafehn 4 жыл бұрын
@@fakeout735 One layer of fiberglass with the initial resin. Then I did many many hours of filling with resin and filler.
