What's NOT subjective is number of hits they've made, how much they've made (they're in the business of putting butts in seats) and awards and accolades. I'm surprised at a lot of the comments here. This was one of the best dramas/thrillers/horror movies I've ever seen. Very well written, directed, cast, and acted. There's this constant eerie feeling of uneasiness and dread throughout the beginning of the movie, almost like a Hitchcock movie. I really wondered what is going on, because it's obvious something is wrong, but you can't quite put your finger on what it is. Then when you find out, it's horrific, and so creepy, it's emotionally satisfying because you realize all your trepidations and unspecific fears were not unfounded. Part social satire, part comedy, part drama, and yes even part horror story. I think it probably confuses people not ready for a multi-layer story like that, but for those who appreciate all those genres, I think it was very well done. What's particularly chilling about it I thought was how plausible it was. I felt like something like this could really happen.

It's a movie about white people abusing black people, written and directed by a racist man that has gone on record saying that he will never cast a white person in a lead role for any of his movies who also has a history of racist work. Look at Key and Peele, sure it's all comedy and supposed to be light hearted and fun but every single sketch written by Peele over the however-many-seasons run of the show was "White people do this, black people do that"
@brycegriffin92712 жыл бұрын
For the record I liked the movie, but let's be real if the roles were reversed and this movie was a bunch of weird black people with a white protagonist that exposes them for being a bunch of psychos and kills several at the end, you know it would get cancelled into oblivion. Jordan thinks he's making race relations better but really he's just worsening them by highlighting skin color so much. Normal people don't think about their skin color all the time.

@Profile__12 жыл бұрын
Hard to reply to comments since they keep disappearing, but as a general response: I think it would suck if a racially reversed movie would get cancelled, but I don't think that should affect the film itself; that's just an issue with modern audiences and cancel culture itself. However, I'd also add that a racially reversed film wouldn't be as strong since the themes are intentionally geared towards racism of whites against blacks. I do think it's a point, however, that bringing attention to color just makes race relations worse, not better. However, did he actually say he thinks he's trying to improve relations? Because in my mind, this film is just a horror movie with racial themes, not advocating or encouraging anything. Much like _The Shining_ is an awesome horror film with themes of domestic violence/abuse and alcoholism, but I would not for a second think it's trying to "enlighten" of "educate" the audience on those issues. To me _Get Out_ is just a horror movie dealing with racial themes, has ties to racism, but in no way did I come out thinking "Man white people be like that." It clearly established these characters as outside the norm, and in a way they even changed from the alternate ending to further separate this story from true reality (the alt ending being that the MC ends up in jail for murdering the family). In response to someone else saying Peele is racist, with a history of racist skits, even going as far as saying he wouldn't ever cast a white person as his lead: I think it sucks if he is indeed racist towards whites, but I won't condemn or judge simply because I haven't looked into his previous works or personal statements; I don't go off of word-of-mouth. However... If he did say that he wouldn't cast white people as his lead, even if this is controversial and perhaps hypocritical, I get it. I'm pretty sure the reality is that most films have white lead actors (though it is slowly changing). Not saying that's a problem, just what it is. If Peele as a director/writer, who is black himself and has clear interest in telling black-centric stories, I don't think it's an issue if he wants to avoid casting a white lead. Again I know my viewpoint is controversial and hypocritical to a certain degree, but I'm a strong advocate of people telling their own stories from their own perspectives. If there was a white writer/director who wanted to do something similar, I would be fine with them also wanting to cast solely white lead roles. Same goes for any other race.
@nosiphodywili352 жыл бұрын
This movie just shows you a cult of white people who are obsessed with black traits ... This could have easily been about them wanting a black person who's good at playing basketball ... So to me it's not really racism ... It's just crazy cult nuts believing in what a crazy scientist came up with ... If the brain transfer didn't work ... They'd be dead and would still not get what they wanted ... So in the end they are going to turn on each other ... I'm black and I don't find this movie racist at all.

I think it is often unintentionally done no matter the race but like in this movie, somethings the white people said were just outrageously racial insensitive or racist. It's normal to feel singled out amongst a race that is not your own, but if you feel uncomfortable or feel in some way discriminated than that is where the line is drawn. I think the reason that some white people are upset by this and are calling this a racist movie is only because of how much media we’ve seen recently about making out white people to seem like evil racists when a very large majority of us simply aren’t that way. I get that this movie has a larger point and is a great way for Jordan peele to express his personal experiences, but I feel like these movies could inspire more people to hop on the anti white people train. You could argue that these movies give a spotlight to actors of color and I would agree, it’s definitely a good thing to see more diversity in media. You could also argue that these films can give people better perspective on what it’s like to be the other guy, to which I would also agree. When it comes to this director, I as a white man would argue that if another white person doesn’t enjoy it then the movie is most likely not made for them. Which is something that many people probably haven’t come to terms with. My point is blame Hollywood not white people as a whole. I mean no ill will here I just thought I’d share my thoughts.

Honestly (and I know that it’s a whole different level and scale) but as a gay person I felt this movie and specific scene to my very core : because I encountered and experienced myself variations of this scene, attempts to connect with my “difference” just because I’m gay, which just resulted in clumsiness like “ you’re a great person even if you’re gay” and it’s just soo awkward and Jordan Peele has my utmost respect for depicting that so well.

Would they be able to make this movie if the race of the characters in the movie was reversed? Or directed by a White man?

But why would they? You guys and your whiteabouts make no sense.
@owenleal2 жыл бұрын
What scenario would there be, where the movie would make sense with the races reversed? The fact that you say that proves you didnt get the movie. The movie is about white liberal guilt and the need that white people feel to be ultra supportive of black culture to the point where they subsume it. Its not an attack on white people its a critique on a social phenomenon, specific to the times we live in. Its not a simple matter of "what if it was reversed".
@jimmyreece57812 жыл бұрын
@@owenleal That's not what this movie was about at all. It's a racist movie by a racist director and the races could easily be reversed. You can inflate the plot with whatever BS you want, doesn't make it true.

So trying to relate to someone is now considered racist? God i hate Jordan Peely.
@Profile__12 жыл бұрын
You really need to put it into context, though. They aren't _really_ trying to relate to him, they're just trying to act friendly and manipulate the character to keep him there. Some of them were even asking questions to see if his body fit themselves so the procedure would be effective. Trying to relate isn't racist, but when you're using it maliciously to get onto someone's good side to take advantage, it's pretty bad yeah. Especially considering these people consider him to he nothing but a literal skin suit for them to use. And they explicitly target Black people too, which I'd wager is racist.
@owenleal2 жыл бұрын
No, it is not racist. He never said it was racist, he said it was wierd and cringe. What the characters were doing was treating the character like a token and trying to earn his favour through throwing out racial cultural tropes that they thought they understood but really they didnt. The reason that the characters in the movie have the ritual where they inhabit black bodies os because that is what many white people do in real life, where they try to embody black culture, because they think its cool, without understanding the full context of that culture. That isnt racist as such, but it is harmful both to black and white people. Ive been lurking in these comments for a minute now and it seems that the gripes about the movie are simply from people who dont understand it or just havent lived it.

I’m white and before this movie, I had never understood when black people talked about too many white people making them nervous even if they weren’t blatant racists. But this movie, I felt in Chris’ perspective. Every single time he interacts with a white person, even if it’s innocuous, I’m anxious and on edge. And THE ONLY time I relax is when any of the black characters get to talk to each other. So this movie helped me understand that feeling a bit better.
@swiftly_produced2694Ай бұрын
I think for me, it depends on how the person is. The interactions with his girlfriend were less loaded, but with all the old money white people and the parents, it kinda shifted, because they made race very important to the conversation. By not saying it, you felt they didn't see him as some ordinary guy, but as a black man.
