Pop-pop engine (part 2)

2 жыл бұрынContinuation of the last video, showing how to make a small tin boat and an alcohol lamp.
The engine is difficult to make but runs very well and has high resistance to heat and pressure. High temperature silicone works great here, it's defined to temperatures until 250°C but as long as the water keeps flowing, the engine temperature doesn't even come close to that. I tried to make several other types of engines, but these engines never worked properly: either they were unstable, or they displaced little water, or they exploded...
You may have noticed that in the previous video the motor was very silent, but in this video the motor makes the characteristic "pop-pop" noise. I don't know why this happened, maybe it's the stronger heat source, or the boat moving, or the water temperature... I don't know.

That is a good point, you would probably need 32 gage allium for the diagram part and a small gas ring to heat the Water but yah would be worth trying 😊

Just learn what causes the water to do that, check if it can be applied to life size, and then it's just about desinging a working machine, to build it

@Gregory: it's basically a self-priming steam engine; and steam ruled the waves very successfully for more than 200 years. It'd need the flame partially enclosing; but there's no reason why it shouldn't work on any size of boat. Up to around 75 ft for a canal boat maybe. All you'd need is a low-ignition fuel, (paraffin, methylated spirit etc.), and 99.9% emissions free too. I've got a 20ft open boat; I think I'll have to try it....

Boa tarde. Eu vi pela primeira vez esse tipo de barco em 1979 e fiquei impressionado. Agora que estou aposentado reencontrei ele e pretendo fazer alguns. Pergunto: se eu fizer um queimador (não sei o nome correto) onde a agua é esquentada, de aproximadamente 15 cm de diâmetro, em um barco maior, ele funcionaria normalmente ou só funcionaria para "motores" pequenos e barcos pequenos? Em nenhum vídeo encontrei queimadores grandes...

Molto interessante e divertente! Perchè non prevedi anche un piccolo timone, così se la metti in un laghetto, per esempio, gira sempre in tondo? Very interesting and amusing! Why don't you put a little helm, so in a little lake the boat, by example, could navigate in circle?

Strange that one gets a jet of propulsion but then no reaction in the other direction.

That is a pop pop boat phenomenon that I have spent much time pondering. There is much happening, however, I believe the bottom line is that the jet of water is discharged with considerably more force than the replacement water comes back. Another thing to consider is that the incoming water is also flowing forward through the tube. When it comes to a sudden stop in the boiler, that momentum is transferred to the boat.

A pressão dentro da caldeira aumenta, o diafragma de metal expande por causa da pressão porém ele retorna a posição original e assim empurra expele a água pelos tubos de cobre, mas ele se expande de novo puxando água para dentro da caldeira, e assim o ciclo se repete.
