Foil Quill: Using a Design Drive and Watercolor Paper

Here are the results of using the Foil Quill and designs from the Paige Evans Design Drive by We R Memory Keepers on scrapbook paper, watercolor paper and at the end, I show how the tool works without a machine. I also show some of the colors of heat activated foil available as 4 x 6 sheets.
We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill heat pen for electronic die cutting machines is a great little tool that allows you to sketch with foil on to projects using your Silhouette Cameo, or other die cutting machines like the Cricut Explore or the Brother Scan ‘N Cut.
I am working with the Silhouette America Design Edition Software for the Cameo 3 and the standard foil pen.

The Foil Quill pen works like a heated sketch pen and transfers a special heat-activated foil to your project. There are 3 pen widths: Fine, Medium / Standard, and Broad. Each heat pen transfers a different amount of foil.
Please be sure to observe all safety instructions with this tool. It gets very hot and could burn.

I just ordered the triple pack and a couple of foils with 6 Usbs. Can't wait to try it out! I also watched a few other vids and some ladies say couture creations foil works great which is good for me as I have loads for my GoPress n Foil 😂 I may have a foil problem. I have a minc a GoPress and now I've ordered the foil quill pack to go with my scan n cut 😂

How do you import the files from the drive in Silhouette? I do have Silhouette Studio Designer Edition

if you right click on the image in your library you get the option to merge and that way you can put them on the same page without having to cut and paste and close all of the new windows and all that that entails to close them down.

Since the Foil Quill comes with other adapters you could use the longer one which would give you more collar to hold on to when trying to write with it (in theory anyway).

Thank you for this great video. I want to get one of these!!! Also just so you know when opening your files in the silhouette software if you want multiple files to open on one page select merge under file and the files will then open on the same page you are working on!

Stampjg - StephG I’m waiting , too. Thanks for the demo. I have been wondering about the quality of the designs on the sticks and what has to be done to prepare the design for your machine. Someone commented on another video that they didn’t ‘trace well’. It didn’t look as if you did anything other than open, resize and line up the designs.

Hello Audre! I imported the SVG files into the Studio Designer Edition software. This means that I did not have to trace the image in order to use the design. The design drives have both PNG files and SVG files.

@@audregaer3281 Yeah I thought og that after you would have to be careful to stay away from the stencil edges .... but I was sthinking too of cutting paper stencils on my cameo to use ..... that would work for sure

Can you print the designs from the USB and use them with the foil quill hand held nersion?

Hello, Karen. The files come as .SVG and as .PNG. You can open the .PNG files in a photo editing software, size them and print them. Or in Windows you can right click, play with the photo settings and print them. It is not really meant to print, but you can.

What sort of power pack do I use in the UK

Hi, Maureen! I'm not 100% sure in the UK, but it may be the same thing as in the US. It is a cell phone accessory. Try searching for "power bank" or "portable cell phone charger" or "power pack" or "battery pack" anything that charges or powers a USB device, like your cell phone or tablet. Looking at Amazon UK will give you ideas, or a cell phone store. I think We R Memory Keepers sells one too. I don't think it is country specific because both input and output are with a USB cable. But I could be wrong. When it charges, you plug it into an USB adapter that is plugged into the wall, just like you would charge a cell phone.

Can u use the foil quill in the first generation silhouette cameo?

Hello, CraftyGirl79! Thanks for watching! While I am not 100% sure it will, I believe it will because the original Cameo takes the same blade as the newer machines. The Foil Quill fits in the blade holder and works just like a Silhouette sketch pen. I hope this helps...

Thanks for watching, Diane! I am probably going to try again, but there are two challenges with using it for handwriting - the pen drags (scratches) on the foil and it is a little too short to hold comfortably. It does much better used with the die cut machine.

Maybe the force on the first project should taken down even more as it looks like it really tore into the foil? Also, remember you can replicate things of the same so you can put the two LLs on one page. I'm just learning so reading and watching everything I can and just went over this replicate part. LOL
