Have you tattooed a heart or an anchor before?
In this Follow Along Episode 4 Anchor Heart 2 video we will be doing another heart/anchor tattoo that has a nice blank banner across, as seen in the video thumbnail, but this 1 is a bit more advanced.
I go over how I would go about lining this tattoo and why I choose to use the configurations I use. I go about shading this tattoo with a non traditional approach, I explain where I put the shading and why and more!
I will go ahead and provide you with the download links for the stencil below so you can follow along with me on your end.

Hey Daniel. Have you tried stippling with color yet? I know a lot of people have asked about color but just wondering if you tried stippling with color. I'm going to give it a shot and see what it looks like.

You mentioned that you start at the bottom and work up.... Is there a functional reason or is that preference? Before you said it I assumed you'd start at the top and work down so that your hand wouldn't drag over fresh tattoo as you complete the rest of the tattoo?

Hey Daniel! First off, Thank You SOOOOOOOO MUCH for all of your AMAZING videos, I have LITERALLY been waiting for someone to drop some incredible teaching videos like yours & BAM! I come across your channel & I'm in Heaven!! Secondly, I have a question:: Will you be doing a video any time on color such as color packing, color shading or just simply adding in color? I don't know why but (and maybe its all in my head, to be honest) but color scares the daylights out of me, lol. I just need someone, like yourself, to just break it down for me. I know, I know, black is color BUTTTTTTTTT....... doing a black & grey tattoo is on a whole other level than doing a colored tattoo or to me it is. Sorry if I've confused you at this point. Thank You for any & all help you can give & thanks again for everything thus far!!!!

Hey! Thank you so much for your support and feedback! I appreciate you. I actually am developing a couple of videos where I explain my approach on color packing as I have had several people ask me how I go about working with color. I used to be the same way with shading my first few months into tattooing. I would think to myself if I was ever going to be able to shade and something about it back in that time scared me lol but now from a different view I can see it was silly but apart of the process. It was scary because there was so much I didn’t know and there still is but at that time it was even impossible to try to imagine what my shading would look like. Low and behold I came across stippling and dot work some weeks later and started working towards that. I just used what I had to get somewhere even if it was anywhere. One action led to another and before I knew it I was super comfortable with shading and now I want to shade haha. I’ve found subtle ways to implement shading into my custom mandala tattoos and pretty much any tattoo really. What I am saying is it may seem impossible and scary right now but with some time , good information, and consistent work it will all begin to add up and reflect in your work. If you would be patient with me as I develop these videos for color packing and more I would genuinely appreciate it! 🤝 don’t hesitate to let me know should you have any further questions at all

Question..is it not difficult to use being wrapped so much? Or does it make it easier? I thought the idea was to have less vibration for the hand but there is no vibration with these compared to coil machines......sorry if I'm sounding stupid I just woke up...can't wait to see you do some Japanese style. I know you can do anything, you're line work is of the highest quality 👌
@gabiballetje
@gabiballetje 2 жыл бұрын
Vibration is less than with coil machines, this is why these are awesome, and having battery packs is also really nice, no annoying cable to get tangled, or pulling, potentially less weight. The wrapping, well, you always need some wrapping as in with plastic for hygiene, and some wrap for grip, and maybe vibration dampening, and to make the machine thicker, but some of those things are also personal taste, what works for you. Note, i am a complete noob.

Sup homie! 2 questions. Why did you start with a round shader and not a round liner? And 2nd why dont you fill your tip all the way? Thanks dogg.
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 жыл бұрын
Yo what’s good bro! Those are great questions! So I started with a round shader because the lines I decided to start with were what I felt should be bolder so I used a round shader because of the bold lines that round shaders provide. It’s simply because I wanted a bolder line and it was 110% subjective. We could have used a round liner and still have done a great tattoo. For the 2nd question, I don’t fill my tube up all the way as this has always resulted in a pool of ink under my needle tip which gets in the way of me being able to visibly see the needle tip. When I fill it up with enough to get from a to b for a few lines is when I am able to achieve smooth clean lines with no pooling up or mess.

@@DanielYuck appreciate the answers that you answered in the comments and in your video for me. I always thought that round liner would be more bolder but was never sure being that I just started. Definitely doing my own testing tonight. Appreciate it homie 👍🏼

So we can see some space between the 3 lines when you're lining, is that because you're using a shader, or is it just because of the fake skin, that you will not have that same effect with real skin ?
@taraaawhatt
@taraaawhatt 2 жыл бұрын
its probably both. he lined with a shader and the skin doesnt take the ink that well so there can be blank spots.

My thumb hurts during and after tattooing when wrapping the machine this thick. Any suggestions or tips? Started less than a month ago...
@DanielYuck
@DanielYuck 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! Hmmm I feel this may vary from person to person and because of many reasons. My hand may hurt for a different reason over why your hand is hurting. My dominate hand suffered a break about 9 years ago or so and I can still feel the effects today so that’s one of the main reasons why I wrap my machines with a big grip. It helps my hand perform for longer hours, while providing optimal comfortable and stability for me as a tattooist. Say your hand is perfect and not injured maybe we wouldn’t need such a big grip, maybe we would need a super small grip. Or something to this extent. Are you placing your thumb on the machine or on the grip wrap? Again it could be 1 of multiple reasons or multiple reasons in general. I can’t say for certain. I do remember when I started telling Ben Fischer my hand was hurting me and I remember him saying that he remembers that pain too and that over time we get stronger with other hands and the pain essentially subsides. Sure enough he was right. I’ll feel sore but nothing like when I first started.

@@fluke808state4 use the fattest grip you can find. My hand did the same thing so I got a fatter grip and I also added the rubber grip over than. My hand never got that cramping again. Of course this may not work for you but at least give it a try fluke...

Personally, i have been drawing for ages with pencils, pens, markers, i do not want a too thick boi, but, this may not be as nice to your hand, healthy or otherwise, for longer periods of time. With a thick boi you can sort of have a bigger contact area for your fingers, making it easier to control, and your fingers do not have to work as hard gripping, holding it tight, under control, so your fingers kind of do not have to apply as much force because you have less contact area. I do tend to like a bit of a ledge sort of thing to rest on a finger, just as an extra bit of control, but some people may absolutely hate that, do what works for you. Still trying to figure out what i like most.

Loving your vids. But I have a question. And hoping in not the only one thinking about it. OK. So needle sizing is obvious, as is needle diameter, 0.35 and bug pins, but......... Is there a size guide for rl to rs? For instance. A 3rs produces a thicker line than than a 3rl. But which rl does the 3rs equal for line thickness. And so on. 5rl =? Rs, 7rl =? Rs

Ohhhhh that’s actually a very good one! I don’t believe there is any information of such, but this is in the alley of something I am currently working on so I maybe able to guide these questions in a better direction via video over text here. I know exactly what you are saying and what is mean. Again I feel I maybe able to shed some light on this. If you would be patient and kind enough to bare with me as I get this sorted and completed for you all.
