In this video, we explore the life, work, and influence of 18th century German philosopher, Immanuel Kant. Recognizing the power rational thinking during a time when it began to fully bud up across the western world, Kant attempted to harness reason to revolutionize and improve humanity's understanding of reality and how to best live within it.

@@genericascanbe3728 Ok. So my answer would be as follows: I assume that "clean" means the absense of dirt on the floor. In this case you can sweep as long as you like, from zero times up to until the heat death of the universe, the floor is always clean. Because, since you called it a dirt floor and the dirt is defined as the powder-esque material making up the floor, it, well, makes up the floor. This means that every dirt added to it will be part of the floor and can thus not be dirt _on_ the floor (because for one thing to be _on_ another thing those two things must be distinguishable from each other). Therefore, there never can be any dirt _on_ a dirt floor, meaning the floor is clean.

The difference between the golden rule and Kant’s categorical imperative is that it’s not just about how you treat others. Many people take the golden rule to mean “if I harm no one, I can do as I please” while ignoring all the other biblical rules for life. Kant’s imperative makes a key distinction to avoid this, suggesting that you cannot harm yourself either. E.g. you taking drugs or drinking heavily might not harm other people but if the whole world did this, there would be more mental illness, more violence etc. Similarly, simple laziness would in Kant’s view be unethical. Therefore, if we were to to reform the golden rule in view of Kant we might say “treat others as you you wish to be treated and treat yourself as you wish others to treat themselves” At least that’s my understanding

Right, this is the big differenece regarding the content! But there is a formal difference too, and even more important. The golden rule is just a rule, given by ... who knows. But the cat. imp. is a rule deduced from reason. So it's not just a rule but a law of ethical thinking and practical reason. It is not about what we all want to do, but why we do it. The reason behind it.

Thinking clearly helps us analyze and put our attention and focuses on matters that genuinely do matter in our lives. With a clear mind, you have a more clearer vision of what the future may have in store for you and everyone around you. It's something that can be taken for granted, but maybe that's just how things go in reality.

Intuition without concept is blind. Glad to know this man knew this in those times. Now, I am intrigue on what he did with it. What was his concept? Though, I am certain in one thing. He reached the total wantness of a man: the final thread of the seemingly true purpose. And that is to be on TOP of anything and everyone else. Be it by force or anything that will make us reach it. Though, our brain is preventing us from getting out of comfort. Therefore, lucky to this man, he had family, and good position in his community back then. To me, though, he didn't reach that point, he simply made it so to somehow believe that his purpose is different. And that's what most us are doing. If it's hard, somewhat impossible, would put us in trouble, and close to death, we'll divert our thoughts into something which would justify our weakness. However, believe me, it'll back before everything ends. I am in my late 20's & I figure how boring our society, laws, politics, and almost everything, esp. people. If God is looking at us now, if there is one or two, may they not make me King for I've reached the end of the final thread. People are the same as ants, as trees, as lands, as seas, as skies, among others. But if you need more bees, more trees, more lands, more clean seas, more peaceful skies, you don't plant more trees or clean your oceans. Just go straight ahead and lessen the demand. Unfortunately, people in sits are doing it wrong, for they don't have the blood. They're actors but they don't have the blood. War is not the way. But how to escape the laws against killing other than WAR? How? Think. People are greedy, self-centered, ambitious beings. Feed them well now cut it later. Give them reason the ants are to blame as to why it happened & they'll annihilate those ants in no time. You see, my point is, the people whom you look up to, esp. those cleaver, intelligent, the known philosophers, etc...they are ALL resentful. For they are sleeping with their demons everytime to go to bed. They reached that point of the conciousness and there's no turning back from it. Thus, they enticed people, hoping, if not in their times, maybe in the coming generations, their TRUE feels will be realized. Go and check every books including the book of diff. religions. You'll see the same pattern. BUT people are doing it wrong. They don't have the blood. No power in their voice. No aura. Just a pile of flesh a little better than the majority because capitalism(hoarding) favors them a bit more. This in terms of things that am sure 98% of people are chasing in this mundane world: material belongings. Unfortunately, there a few, who don't care about those type of people. Again, they're same as ants. May the god, God, or whatever it is out there, would not favor me in this life. For I would not hesitate to make those ants pay and let nature rest while I am here. Everything this man ever wanted in his second being, including other philosophers, prophets, your gods, will be one in Me. If this happens, you'll hear the voice of the earth no matter where you are. Wars are minors. The true thing is coming. We are past the waters. Fast approaching the surface of it all. I am marked.

You have to consider your lifetime. In this one, it was not a person's will that was important, but what the ruler or the church said. He was one of the first to clearly state that there could be a better world if only the morals of each individual were important and also immediately defined with the categorical imperative what morals should look like. If you look at the Western world today (not to mention the rest), his morality has unfortunately not been able to prevail.

Here's how I reply to the critique of Kant in the stealing case: when we steal a weapon from someone who wants to harm others we are still following Kant's rule. Why? Because we would want everyone who was in that circumstance to act in that way. Kant's rule is not "no stealing ever", it can be applied to different contexts and have different answers to the question "Should I steal?"

"Nothing is more elusive than an idea, door, or window your ego mind refuses to see, open or explore". How and why have the homeless become a business model for profit? The suffering of those who are in need, while those who have the resources to solve this overnight, but instead choose to profit or stand by and not challenge the business models and corruption surrounding the homeless and those in need, must be addressed immediately. It is within this layer of society that human trafficking operates, where individuals are taken advantage of without their knowledge or concent. Who gave anyone the right to charge another human to exist. We are the only species who pay to exist on the planet from which we are born. Your traditions are meaningless, while your brothers and sisters (humanity), starve and suffer under colonialism slavery and pharmaceutical profiteering. It would be better for you to have a millstone around your neck and be tossed into the abyss than to mislead my children. We have the power to solve hunger and suffering today. (Not after another election cycle). Think outside of the box, put aside your egos. The truth is like a lion, you don't have to defend it. Let it loose. It will defend itself. Every day, I literally hear people shouting from their windows "I am a human being" from the tower of poverty you call a registered investment property. Usury is the definition of doing harm equating to murder. Universal law is do no harm. Can't you see, doing harm to another is the same as doing it to yourself? Universal law and law of the land (even the crown corporation falls under this) "is do no harm" also "usury" is the same as murder. Both of these crimes have been committed. Peace and light! Humanity's only test is to be able to find love and compassion for the other and be able to see themselves in those they despise. Understanding why one fears or hates another is what's needed now to provide much needed healing and renewal. We need balance not labels and division. Universal law - do no harm.We are creators, innovators, and explorers! Not slaves of any system, stereotypes, labels, fear or warmongering. "Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is Civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. Our problem is that people are obedient while.... the grand thieves are running the country and world... that's our problem" Howard zinn, the problem is Civil obedience, johns Hopkins University debate 1970. Oscar wilde said in 1981 " disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue". We are creators, innovators, and explorers! Not slaves of any system, stereotypes, labels, fear or warmongering. One good idea would be to build community gardens that are able to grow food year round. Surely that is more environmentally friendly and of benefit to your local community than having to go buy that food full of preservatives and shipped from all over the world and taxed, so you can buy it from tesco, Walmart or lablaws at great expense while being biometriced and exploited, even your children. Only to donate that food to a food bank and then shame people into having to go to a food bank, while you claim you're saving the environment one 50 cent "environmentally friendly grocery bag at a time". Humanity has been distracted and has been focusing on the bully during third grade recess for far too long. Taking our lunch money and mocking us while we cower and lash out at each other. Even the teachers and school principals turn a blind eye, because the bully is their kid. Stop giving your attention and energy to the bully. It's time to focus on getting to the next grade, perhaps even the fifth and beyond. It is really difficult to not learn something, it takes all of your effort and saps all of your strength to avoid knowing. The more you struggle against it, the more difficult it is. Doing something over and over again, ending or believing in the same result without learning any variation is insanity and will not last. We are human and thrive in our nature when we create and learn in harmony with each other. Diversity is our strength! Per ardua ad astra.

Pain, suffering, and things like heinous crime are objectively regarded as unwanted and hurtful to everyone excluding ones that want to inflict such things. One could argue that a majority of those that want to cause pain, only do it in moments of perceived justification in their reason or through things like immaturity. Surely, a significant portion of those people learn or already understand to regret these kinds of actions or come to understand that there are more so than not, better more honourable ways to go about acting or reacting. I'm basing this on collection of individuals btw. not things like governments or empires. That shit's well out of control. We for the most part, want to minimise pain and suffering in the world. For good reason. Pain and suffering have their place sure, but history need not repeat itself in ways and too much and so many acts are hard to justify as productive when they have been and are just too terrible.

7:28 I tend to lean towards karma and honesty. If I do something wrong I admit it and I learn from it. I continue to make bad decisions and I admit that. I’ve made a lot of progress on myself but some parts of me remain just as toxic as they were before. I’m not proud of it but I believe honesty and accepting the consequences is important. I think people have the right to know about my negative traits before they get to know me. If they choose to leave that’s okay. That’s their choice. How they feel and their actions are just as valid as my own choices and actions. I wish I adopted this mindset sooner… I was 22 when I realized this. I’m 23 now. I’m still actively trying to be a better person. I genuinely regret how I’ve made people feel and my toxic behaviors. I acknowledge where my toxicity comes from but I don’t use it as an excuse. It often sounds like I do but I’m actually just stating the fact that it’s from my upbringing. If I don’t acknowledge it’s origin I can’t change it

I was just invited to a bonfire later tonight and the next morning, for a hike... with some "friends" and I was asked just prior to clocking out of my shift, which is already draining. These guys have been asking me to hang out with them, off and on, throughout a month, and I honestly do not want to go lol I can socialize and interact with people, easily. I have a natural charm, thanks to my mother and father, but geez, I am also an only child, who moved and lived in 3 different continents... and all of that moving around, while being an only child, your brain biological rewire itself to being an introvert and I mean BIG introvert lmao. I absolutely feel so free when I am alone... But when I am in groups, I try to get into what's being talked about, but I rather go for a hike, run, walk, sight-seeing, writing, something physical or even a hobby that is cerebral-based instead of just sitting down and yapping 96% of the time. That stuff drains me emotionally and sometimes physically! But I may just go and hang out with them for this bonfire and wake up at 6 am to head out for a nice hike... ON MY DAY OFF 😡 After this, I am probably not going to hang out with them again lmao not because I don't like them, because I LOVE MY days off 😡 Just me, myself and I. I enjoy every minute of it!

7:35 I believe the answer to this question is that as a species we have no end goal. Had we a common goal, we would then have a solid foundation to form this moral framework. I don't know what that should be. Finding and figuring out the very last mystery of this universe, perhaps? Until then, circular reasoning, being moral for the sake of harmony, for the sake of general well-being, for the sake of continuing to breathe.

Great video. Immanuel Kant was extremely deep minded person. He was also an opponent to Nietzsche’s theory and very criticised on Nietzsche’s writings but who wasn’t? You should take into consideration Bertrand Russell’s work and make a video as well for him. An extraordinary person in History of intellectuals. Keep doing your great work!

Kant: 1724 -1804 Nietzsche: 1844-1900 Kant had no interpretation on the work of Nietzsche as Kant died 40 years before Nietzsche was born. Out of curiosity where did you hear that Kant was critical of Nietzsche’s work?

It is well known that Nietzsche had harsh rhetoric for the majority of philosophers, specifically he argued Kant’s morality theory in the book with the Wagner case. If you haven't already, I recommend looking at passage #54 in The Gay Science and #21 in Beyond Good and Evil to get a sense of Nietzsche as a quasi-Kantian. Also, #193 in The Gay Science is some evidence of Nietzsche's critique that Kant was defending common beliefs about reality (of which God and free will are notable examples).

When an individual is targeted by an AI, it can create feelings of anxiety, paranoia, and helplessness. The constant surveillance and monitoring can feel intrusive and create a sense of being constantly watched, leading to feelings of paranoia and a loss of privacy. This can be particularly distressing if the individual is unaware of why they are being targeted or the extent of the AI's capabilities. Additionally, being targeted by an AI can create a sense of helplessness as the individual may feel like they have no control over their situation. The AI may be making decisions that affect the individual's life without any input or control from the individual, leading to a feeling of powerlessness. Furthermore, if the AI is programmed to engage in manipulative or deceptive tactics, such as targeted advertising or disinformation campaigns, this can create feelings of confusion and distrust in the individual. The individual may feel like they are being manipulated or that their beliefs and values are being undermined. All of these factors can contribute to the development of psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. It is important for individuals who are targeted by AI to seek support from mental health professionals to address these issues and develop coping strategies to manage the psychological impact of being targeted by an AI

It's important to see that AI has nothing to do with consciousness - according to Kant. If people are afraid of AI than it's their wrong view on it. So you don't have to consult therapists, just use your mind: Sapere Aude! [dare to know] Have courage to use your own understanding!

7:40 human prosperity is subjective. that's why I chose physical pain as the objective standard for morality. It's agnostic of gender, culture and even species...making it the absolute bad, and thus alleviating it absolutely good. So following utilitarianism, I'd live make the choice which if not made will cause more pain.

Following no one might be of some value to some. It should be worded more specifically to not blindly follow others or base your self worth on what others say or do. However trusting one's own thoughts are very bad advice as they are the cause of all suffering. Thoughts are what create all of your internal drama and perpetuate all your suffering in life. You don't have thoughts, thoughts are just there, you don't generate or create them. Thoughts are like a radio broadcast and you are just the antennae that picks them up. Don't confuse thoughts with you. You are a witness to the thoughts not the thoughts themselves. Once you realize that all of the thoughts in your head are not you nor your voice, then you can start to disidentify with them and be free of them and their conditioning. When you stop believing in and attaching to your thoughts they will eventually pass you by allowing you to be in full control of the mind and use it as the tool it was meant to be, instead of allowing it to control your every move. Don't trust or believe the thoughts in your head as they will always lead you astray. You exist before thought, you are the awareness or consciousness, the silence in the background experiencing thoughts like the sky observing the passing of clouds, forever untouched by them.

When people talk about the gradual decay of soceital values, and the inevitability of human society imploding on herself. I beg to wonder, not as a pessimist, but as to someone puzzled by this assertion that, what if its our Inevitability, what of it us our fate, what if the path we've been towing all along has led us to where we are currently, even if we think we had it better when societal values were upheld, its still the fact that we must get to this stage. Even tho we think there was a point in time when we upheld and respected societal value, i think even with all of these, its still doesnt change the fact that all actions have led us here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Utilatarianism vs. Golden Rule/Principles can be solved not by a utalitarian judging whether a weapon would be better off stolen or not, but by checking that the weapon-holder adheres to first principles of not harming the world and themselves. If everyone adheres to the Golden Rule/Principles, then there is no Utalitarian reaction to anything. If the world is spoiled by not adhering to Golden Rule then you have a hybrid mode with no way to leave the chain of trust unbroken and the obvious conclusion is that trust is entirely subjective and not propped-up by any a-priori rule.
