It took me many days of practice and failing before learning how to hockey stop on roller. Here is a step by step tutorial so you can learn it as fast as possible. There are also plenty of tip to help you improve to the point of stopping at full speed. I hope you enjoy!

Caleb Erickson - That’s why I am here ! It’s for my 13 year old son . He plays AA hockey - I got him hockey rollerblades & he’s not able to stop . ( haha) . Oh he’s been playing hockey from 4 years old . He told me mum it’s easier to stop on ice . Wish him luck:)

Same dude, been playing for 12 years and I just got Bauer RS inline skates for summer, first time ever using rollers. I was cocky and ate shit when I tried to stop lmao

@@Pindyyy - sorry 😢 to hear that Brock ! The funny thing is that my 13 year old son had NOT fallen down ( knock ✊ on wood ) He had rollerblades when he was younger - with the break .... but these got no brake .... it’s an awesome adventure. Will keep you posted ( hehe) Good luck 🤞

Also, if you are used to playing on ice, DO NOT try to stop the same way you would on ice. The force is on you heel for roller, not you ball/toes.

I tried rollerblading for the first time this summer. Tried to stop like I do on ice. Hit the ground so hard T___T. Fortunately, I had pads and a helmet.

Ha, I've been on the ice all winter and mastered my ice hockey stop. Tried it again today on my inlines today. Not a chance, completely different technique, don''t even go there. Your face can thank me later 🤣

So true being able to do a hockey stop on roller blades is a big advantage over people who can't. You could be going full speed and put on the brakes and watch your pursuer sail past you unable to stop, it is funny. The way you taught to stop is the same exact way I learned on my own. Great video.

Awesome video dude! I hated skating on the indoor courts. My first indoor league I was rolling on Asphalt wheels.. needless to say I went flying into the boards every time I tried to stop

i grew up on inline skates from around 1992 when they started to get popular and played roller hockey starting around that time, got into aggressive inline skating around 1996 and continued playing roller hockey until the early 2000s. switched to ice around 07 and havent played inline since. now im here trying to learn how to stop again. its more fear than anyhting else. the grip is not somehting im used to anymore and i have this fear that im gonna roll an ankle or something. especially because i am used to tying my skates a with the top loose on ice, but this feels weird for inline.

does it matter what wheel stance you use? i have all 80mm wheels, ive heard some roller hockey has front and back 74mm wheels and middle 80mm does that matter?

It’s supposed to help because 76,76,80,80 your leaning forward a bit. But it’s not a huge difference and you probably won’t notice. Just make sure what ever wheel size you have on there is correct to the chassis. If not that could mess up your skating because the wheels aren’t level

You just got to angle your foot a little more vertical so only the wheels are touching and not your skates. It will grip more and you can stop a lot faster to

@@vertrosity1306 you clearly never played roller, it matters a lot on the surface and wheels you have. Stopping on concrete is a lot harder then plastic tiles

I had the opposite problem. Moved from roller hockey to ice. Tried to hockey stop on ice like I always did in roller. Completely different. Not I don’t remember hockey to hockey stop on roller.

the problem for me is that i can skate both backward and forward very fluently. stopping is easier on ice.

On ice it is way easier I just got roller blades and when I try to stop I just spin out

@@benkenobs maybe try getting harder wheels, that will allow more slide more similar to ice. I played ice hockey prior to making the switch to inline and harder wheels helped me.

It's backwards on blades from ice skating. Hockey stop on ice is done on the front of the blade, Hockey stop on blades is done on the heel and back of the wheels. Bend your knees make sure they are over your toes and you'll be good

It does add some more wear and terror to your wheels but they are designed to be stopped on like this. Its more important to make sure you get the correct hardness to your weight. Besides if your playing hockey you need to learn to stop. Its extremely important

The friction on the wheels may not be enough to make the sound

So you might need to put more pressure down? And slide but not to much where there is not enough friction where you fall. If that makes sense.

The parallel is tough on asphalt, really have to trust your wheels and know the piece of asphalt you're on.

See, if you push your heal down on ice skates you be on your ass. Lol. Hockey stop on ice skates is more with front of foot. So this is kind of backwards from ice?

Yeah that will do it. The sound is the wheel gripping to the surface witch slows you down. If it make no noise then you most likely have a wheel that’s to hard
