There are too many ways for scammers to get you now on Ebay, so its pointless to keep using the service because they make it too difficult to protect your investment. Policing the transaction is pretty black and white and does not require a great deal of research to realize who isn't telling the truth here. I can understand if something is lost in the mail and everyone involved is hurting from a mistake that doesn't belong on either side. But your example is clear as day and Ebay should enforce the obvious instead of subjecting its sellers to needless red tape. I had considered getting back into Ebay recently, but this changed my mind. Thank you for sharing this invaluable information!!

I ALWAYS LAUGH when eBay say they are behind the buyers 100% - In reality, for some reason, they HATE the people who make them money! (not sure how that business model works)

I haven't experienced anything close to this level of scammery, fortunately. In the thousands of sales I've had, I can recall maybe three times someone tried to scam me. I think it may be the categories you sell in. I'm going to try to be delicate and not offend anyone, but someone once gave me the advice that flaky items attract flaky buyers. And adults into this sort of stuff can often be a little, uh, let's say abnormal. Same goes for things like video games and expensive sneakers. Not a judgement, just an observation from years of doing this.

I'm with you man, I shut down all my items last week. No more Ebay.... they are circling the drain.

Yeah, I think Ebay has become just too big and its outta control. Trouble is there are bad Seller and Bad buyers. The amount of stuff I have bought from Ebay that has arrived damaged is outstanding.

Ebay has gotten bad for Buyers too. I can't even bid anymore after only 2 unpaid item strikes from when I was in the Hospital and they removed the strikes on an appeal but said they cant remove the hold on my account message that says I cant bid anymore or send offers.. Its such BS..

Many SELLERS SUCK on EviLbay ...super high shipping crap ...

I went through the same type of scam on eBay, on several items, where they automatically ruled on the "buyers" favor. I called several times and finally got someone who was sympathetic to my situation and after reviewing the evidence triggered manual refunds to me. Complete nightmare and i'm done with Ebay.

I'm 100% done with selling on eBay and have been for a few months for similar nonsense like what you're describing. As a buyer I haven't had much or any issues to the point I needed to get eBay or PayPal involved, but it's not the worth the hassle selling anymore on it. I rather make posts on social media, do it through PayPal NOT Friends/Family option. Sorry, they got to pay the fees.

I just had an international buyer open a case against me because it didn't arrive to their location before the latest estimated arrival date, even though the tracking said where it was the whole time, and it was being held up by their postal service for whatever reason. Like it traveled from Maine to the UK fella, be patient. Ebay held funds from other sales I had even after it was confirmed delivered too. Guy never closed the case even then, I had to call ebay twice, to get the case closed, and then again to release my funds which should not have been help up after ebay supposedly closed the case in my favor after the delivery. I understand taking care of the buyers, and wanting them to have confidence in their purchases, but the sellers are literally what keeps your business afloat, too. Last time I looked, eBay still hasn't listed or sold a thing themselves yet. Their whole business model is dependent on their selling partners. Smarten up Bay

I ordered a neat videogame rug from etsy. I waited a while and then see no tracking. Email said expect item by 22nd. It was the 30th. Seller said oh get refund take pity. And their site isnt on etsy anymore. Some people are just trash.

Hey Eon, I think it would be best to start up your own website to sell instead of Ebay etc. The rates will be going up in the new year as well as shipping. You can get better rates on your own.

eBay is starting to go downhill

I just quit eBay and deleted my account recently. I'm not a huge buyer but my last purchase was just so bad. The PSA 10 (a perfect card) arrived and I was instantly able to find a surface issue(dent and tear) on the card. Started correspondence with eBay instantly and sent pics. The card came from their special "vault" where the card is supposed to be quality checked before it ships. The QC guys found no problem with the card. Guess who does the QC... It's none other than PSA. You really think that PSA is going to say that PSA made a mistake? I ate my loss, was very polite with all parties, and deleted my account. I'm so burnt that I am not going to buy any collectables(besides coins but I only buy one or two of those a year) from anybody for quite a while.

one thing you got wrong is that ebay refunded them, ebay withheld your funds from payout when the return was closed but they did not refund the buyer. ebay holds onto that money until the chargeback is settled one way or the other and then if they side with you they pay you your money. ebay still sucks though

Yeah. I wouldn't sell anything on ebay...mainly because I hate that the dumb tax rule of 600 dollars and having to jump through hoops screw that plus I despise auctions because if you have your heart set to get something somebody will screw you 😢not worth it. I might buy an item but even that becomes a chore if they don't accept payment because your card is on hold for the stupidest reason so now you lost money and they refused to give you the item

Pretty soon eBay will just be all scammers and nothing else. The fact this took a full two months to resolve is ridiculous. Left eBay years ago and have never looked back.

I stopped selling on eBay as well. Did the buyer have good feedback ? When I sold items and they had low or no feedback I would cancel their order after a lady scammed me. I had a lady scam me an item saying it was broken when it was sent in molded foam and two boxes and she said it was damaged. I was so broke at the time they wanted to charge me shipping to get the item back and I said just keep it and I ate the loss. She had no feedback and eBay sided with her. even though I had been on eBay forever with no negative feedback.

Please understand I’m not taking sides on ur situation.Just trying to go over it..I have over 15,000 feedback on eBay so I sell a fair amount of collectibles on the platform..But From what I understand it sounds like all the customer(right or wrong) wanted u to do was to respond to the problem of the scratched base..So getting no answer aggravated him and he went to the next step impulsively..As far as the eBay messages, any dispute message that the buyer sends to eBay is automatically sent to ur inbox. Maybe u just accidentally missed the messages?.It happens..And from there the customer contacted PayPal and put a hold on the money..Also,Did u ever actually accept the return thru eBay?.If not,eBay will always refund the customer his money(right or wrong) and then let him keep the item as well..Again I’m not sticking up for eBay just hitting a few points purely out of discussion
