Thank you for such an informative video. I would have never guessed how helpful it is to view a real time process INCLUDING the little mistakes and fixes. It is so much more educational than a flawless A to B to C instructional.

So, after three days, I finally finished the drawer, whew. Your instructions were easy to follow, you spoke clearly, and took your time, but what I enjoyed most was your explanation of other options and you made mistakes and showed your audience on how to correct them. This video is by far the best on YT for Sketchup. I found you when I was looking at how to create a simple box using SU. I not only know how to create a box but many other things due to this video. Thank you for posting this wonderful tool. I have already subscribed and will finish this series with you. And yes, I took three days to follow your 1:06:18 second AWESOME Video.

I actually took a paid udemy course to learn and found this video far better and useful! Could have saved myself some money! One tip (from the course) - try using the arrow UP, RIGHT and LEFT arrow keys to lock into the grids when using push pull, move etc.

Hey, I doubt you're checking comments in this video anymore but I figured I'd try. Can you please tell me how to make overlay drawer fronts? I can't get the midpoint on side rails and the offset tool doesn't make it stick out from the frame. Btw your this vid series was the best I've seen on using sketchup! Thanks

Andrew, really appreciated this treasure trove of tips. I've drawn two projects so far, and just realized the hours of math and drawing with pencil and paper to prepare to draw in sketchup was totally unnecessary. Great job! The notion of components is new to me here, and I see why they are needed for your next video on cut-lists. I'm wondering about more complex joinery though. If you do a half-lap/rabbet, does the cut-list tool just ignore the cutout of the dado? What about doing something like a box joint or dovetail joint? Would you bother diagraming that here? I'm guessing not, and instead you'd want to have a component for each board with 100% overlap in the space where the joint is for the two boards? How does that work? Any ideas?

I've watched this several times. I don't understand the purpose of grouping each edge piece on the top and making it a component. What is the reason for grouping each piece?

Thank you so much for this video, I'm watching this so I can watch your followup video. BTW, those are rabbets not miters (first two times you said miter), I'm sure you know but while teaching and making a video it's easy to make errors.

Great tutorial. Only thing I struggled with was at 1hr 2 mins. I draw the top on but when i try to move it up it attaches to the rear panel. How do I stop this happening and why is it happening to me and not to you!?

at 27:34 you mentioned that you selected a size for a cross-member that was convenient for the cut list. How did you know that? Did you run the cut list tool, and find that you were eating into an additional sheet, and realize if you shaved a little off one piece you could cut your cost by 1 sheet? I'm curious to see how you knew that this piece should be smaller and also what size to choose.

You are keep saying hold down option and drag and copy and I am just not sure what exactly you mean by that. I am using laptop. No mouse. Just mouse pad and I am trying to follow the the option tool move key and just not getting anywhere
@JoshRogers
@JoshRogers 3 жыл бұрын
1. Get a mouse. You really need one for this type of work. I use a laptop also, but hook up a mouse JUST for using sketchup. 2. He's using a mac. When he says 'option key' think 'alt key' if you use windows. Also, they shortcut keys for windows are different than mac. For instance to make a component in windows it is just the 'G' key rather than command-shift-G on mac. Pay attention to the shortcuts listed in the menu when you select something. shortcut keys make this WAY faster, as you can see from the way Andrew uses the tool. He's done a great job with explaining this video, and I have learned more in 20 minutes watching him than hours of research over the last few days. I'm very impressed!

Andrew do you have a any information for doing a cabinet that has different size drawers. I am trying to do one that has 4 different sizes.
@FollowAndrew
@FollowAndrew 4 жыл бұрын
I'd, create one drawer, duplicate it it, (destroy any components) and then rework the drawer to the new size for each of the drawers. It's the same process, but as each drawer is a different size, you can't create one master 'drawer' component.

@@FollowAndrew Thank you for the info. I will defiantly try that. Are there certain preferences that allow you to make the datos for the drawer bottoms. I am trying to follow your instructions but it does not work for me. As well as when I hide something then try to bring it back it will not come back.

So about 2:30 into the video, you indicate we will just zoom in and do not indicate how that is done. I'm looking to learn how to use SketchUp, not watch you use SketchUp. If your intention is to teach, or offer a tutorial, slow down, and be more descriptive about the steps you are taking.
