For Johnny Cash's 82nd birthday, I found a backing track to Folsom Prison Blues from his 1988 album Classic Cash: Hall of Fame Series, and thought I would record my guitar over it as a tribute to the Man in Black. No copyright intended, its just for entertainment purposes only. Enjoy!

1988? Then that would be a Bob Wooton solo since Luther died in 68' and Bob became a Tennessee three member after hos death.. But on the other hand, guess your right. Perkins did invent that solo. Great job 😁👍🏻👍🏻

I'm sure there are tabs out there but because the picking is speratic in how many times to do the double or triple beat on the D string, you're better off doing it by ear.

When I play the solo, I use all 4 of my fingers to hit the notes. I find that makes it a lot more comfortable because if you take a look at the neck, the area that he plays is all well within the reach of your fingers if you start off with your middle and play the rest of the notes using the corresponding fingers. That's just my opinion lol

Thanks so much for the information on your sound! Do you have a mic going into another speaker? You make mention of a mic, but your playing was an instrumental? Great picking by the way! I actually had a chord run from my guitar amp to my computer for this one. I did not use a mic. This was with my old amp so I could record straight through the amp. I had a backing track in the background, all I did was play the guitar.

I play the guitar myself and I finally got a new electric guitar given to me by our exterminator at work and I've been trying to play Johnny Cash all the time how do you actually mute the strings where the strings were really ring long when you're playing the bass part that Luther Perkins does on the guitar I mean instead of the strings actually ringing the whole time it's like it's muted when you're picking those two strings how do you get it to me like that because it seems like doing it it's not playing the notes. how do you do that?
@CountryCoversOfficial
@CountryCoversOfficial 8 жыл бұрын
Well, rest your hand on the bridge. Slightly touch the strings with your palm. The majority of your palm however will be on the bridge

@bprife
@bprife 8 жыл бұрын
well since I replied after you said how to mute it and said I'll give it a shot I tried it and did it. mission accomplished! what I realized I was doing wrong and why I couldn't do it before was because I was using it using my left hand barely touching the strings but didn't know that you could press down the strings regularly but you did with the palm of my hand resting on the bridge like you said so I did that and it worked thanks again for telling me how to do that in fact you're playing is very awesome! and I am definitely going to subscribe to you and hope you do more like that.

Gee thanks man now i gotta spend another thousand bucks on a Telecaster LOL. I just bought a new Gibson Les Paul with P90s but i cant pull that Luther Perkins tone out of it. Back when I was a teenager I had a American Telecaster and I LOVED that Luther Perkins sound! Hearing this i just got bit by the Telecaster bug Friendly criticism......Your b string sounds like its out of intonation a bit. Sounds ok until you do the solo and it seems to note a little flat. You may have noticed and corrected already OR maybe I'm just hearing things lol. Still sounds great either way I loved it

Great. You do the Luther guitar as well as anyone since Luther. Not to be critical but Bobby Wooten never did the original recording. Luther did it in 1957 or 1958. That is the only song that was ever recorded twice by the same artist and went to the top both times. Ron
