His former trainer Teddy Atlas said in response to everyone saying what you said after the fight, "If he was so determined, why didn't he show that level of determination and discipline before the fight, during training, instead of coming in 10lbs overweight for one of the biggest and most important fights of his career?" I'm not saying you're wrong at all, I actually think both can be true, but Moorer's lack of dedication in training is mostly what caused the split between them.

This was the fight that really cemented Holyfield as the best Heavyweight of the 90's.
@camilocienfuegos28663 жыл бұрын
@boxing fan uk Of the recognized champions of the decade, Holyfield was the most memorable and accomplished of them all. Foreman had just one successful (and highly controversial) defense before abdicating the title. Despite beating Holyfield in one of the greatest heavyweight fights ever, Bowe had a short and undistinguished tenure as champ. Tyson began the decade losing to Buster Douglas and lost to Holyfield twice. Moorer unseated Holyfield in their first fight but then lost the belt to Big George in his first defense; as we can see above, he lost the rematch to Evander pretty decisively. And while it's true that Lewis was 1-0-1 against Holyfield, he didn't fight for the legitimate championship of the world until 1999 and didn't win the title until November of that year. I think what speaks most to Holyfield's standing as the best of his era was the fact that of all the fighters I listed above, most of them never fought one another; Evander fought and beat-or-drew with all of them at some point in the 90's. So no, I'm not kidding. I think it's pretty clear that he was the dominant heavyweight of that decade.
@camilocienfuegos28663 жыл бұрын
@boxing fan uk I think you would have a really tough time finding many fight fans who would agree with you that the fighters you listed here (Mason, Ruddock, Bruno, Akinwande, etc.) would in anyway compare or supersede the list of champions and top contenders that Holyfield beat during that same timespan. All excuses and rationalizing aside, Lennox remained on the periphery of the heavyweight division until his title shots against a declining Holyfield in 1999. The common denominator for Foreman, Tyson, Bowe, and Lewis is that they all fought Evander during that decade while never fighting each other. Lennox was definitely the best champion of his era...it's just that his era on top ended up being the early-to-mid 00's, something that is no less of a great accomplishment.
@camilocienfuegos28663 жыл бұрын
@boxing fan uk Forgive me friend, you've totally lost me with all the hypotheticals, decision-disputing, and 'What if?' scenarios. We don't have to engage in conjecture or speculation about what might've happened because Holyfield was the only heavyweight to fight and beat-or-draw with all the champions and top contenders of that decade (i.e. Douglas, Foreman, Bowe, Tyson, Moorer, Mercer, and Lewis). Those fights all happened and he did enough to become the recognized world champion on three occasions during that time frame. Acknowledging that Holyfield dominated that decade doesn't take anything away from the fact that Lewis was the top guy from late '99 to '03. In fact, diminishing Evander's credentials and standing only serve to tarnish Lennox's accomplishment when he eventually took the title from him. I really don't know any other way to sort this through so I guess we're just going to have agree to disagree. Take it easy and God bless you and your family during these crazy times.

Fk me Holyfield has to be one of the most exciting fighters ever. Maginficent physique and just beautiful combinations with the most perfect punching ive ever seen. Guy was a master in this fight.

Moorer got the better of Evander in the first fight through Holyfield's health issues at the time.A fully healed,motivated real deal proved he was too physical and determined for moorer, enhancing Evander's greatness further with his ability to get revenge over an exceptional fighter.

Holyfield hat Tyson mehrmals kräftig in den Arsch getreten, weil Tyson eine PFEIFFE ist. Ganz klar Holyfeld Nr. 1
@brandonshort45022 жыл бұрын
Moorer was definitely not exceptional. He ran up most of his wins and the majority of his wins as a light heavyweight. He didn't bring his power with him when he because a heavyweight.

5 knockdowns. Evander couldn't never truly hurt anyone . One of the all time greats tho. He had just enough power. I've just always believed he didn't have the big power needed to be in that division.

The best Heavyweight fight Real Deal had as far as being in his best shape was against Douglas. I never seen Holyfield look that crisp after, maybe against Tyson the first time.

@@HostileLemons I agree, but he grew smarter, and still had that one punch, fight ending power, which when he fought Holyfield, he connected with a couple that would have put most fighters, as it did Moorer, on the canvas, for the count, but not Holyfield.

Hollifield is an example of what you can achieve with just will and Heart He had no other advantages over other heavyweights he was slower, he was smaller he was not that hard to hit yet he won pieces of the title five times
@Idontknowanyoda15 жыл бұрын
You mean Holyfield was slower? I don't think so. His movement and his punches were sharp and precise .
@obiclone5 жыл бұрын
Braye Glover he had superior timing, awareness, but his actual speed was slower

@@Idontknowanyoda1 And not to mention the technique he was "born" with from Cruiser weight. He was a splendid all round boxer, and he had one unique thing that most fighters dont have. The commentator even said it : "Sometimes Holyfield needs to get hit to get it going", oh hell yeah so true. He would come back even stronger. I miss him and types like him in the heavyweight division. He was the one and only true warrior spirit.

What I Loved and Respected Most as,Holyfield had Tremendous Heart. And he Always came to fight. Always was in Superior Condition. And he ducked. "No One." I recall him once saying about his opponents: "I respect you all,but,if you hurt me,I'm gonna hurt you back." Now,how can someone with that kinda heart not be exciting?😁
