Every band member on stage saw the best thing that their friend ever did in his life behind those drums: Shane.

This has become one of my favorite drum performances of all time. You cannot possibly get more passionate than a kid who just lost his dad. You can see the pain on his face and he’s channeling it into something positive.

He hit those drums so hard as if he was trying to make sure his dad heard him. Absolutely amazing.

His father would be unimaginably proud of Shane, didn’t miss a single beat, phenomenal performance

When the camera angles show everyone (5:09), even the other band members, looking at Shane that's when you realize he was the show. What an emotional performance!

This may go down as one of the most powerful moments in rock n roll history.

I'm not ashamed to admit, this brought me to tears and I've never been as proud of someone else's child in all my life.

As someone who lost their drummer dad, I feel this with every cell in my body.

I appreciate how ALL of them checked in on him throughout the performance.

Dave wasn’t kidding. That kid was swinging for the fences. Unbelievably touching.

I’m a grown ass man and I cry like a baby every time I watch this. Not going to lie. Amazing.

You could see that poor kids pain in his eyes... ugh heartbreaking... touching... inspiring... sad.... yet a beautiful moment. He played so hard he staved off deaths finality for just a moment and with a broken stick tore open the veil between now and eternity to be with his dad one more time.

I stumbled upon this video on my Instagram and being a grown ass brother from the hood that has seen a lot and done a lot, this song had me in my feelings. I didn't know I could cry like this, Shane your father would be proud of you, that was truly amazing. This is the first Foo Fighter's song I have ever heard and now I'm a fan. RIP Taylor Hawkins

They are all staring at him like proud uncles. There was so much love and happiness and emotional relief up there during that song. That kid is so strong and talented.

Undeniably one of the greatest drumming performances in rock. The motive, the talent, the absolute SOUL poured into the performance is absolutely bone chilling

The drummer is the heartbeat of any band. A band is nothing without its heart, and that boy who has had to grow up so fast is capable of continuing the heartbeat of his father. As long as that boy lives, his father lives. This wasn't just a performance, this was his final sendoff for his father. Superb.

Probably the most emotionally driven performances I've seen to date. He didn't care about the audience. Just played for his dad with so much passion. There was no doubt he was beating the hell out of those drums because he misses his dad. Never misses a beat, a cue, and nailed his embellishments, and played dynamically. He did this song right. Served its purpose. Rock on kid

That drum kit will never recover from the beating they took that night. The end solo that was reminiscent of a Taylor solo while just looking at Dave, was a very powerful moment. Could watch this 100 more times and get the same feeling from it every time.

Fun fact . Taylor wore a Saint Cecilia shirt sometimes. My 12 year twins were like how cool it is that the Taylor is repping St Cecilia cuz that’s where they go to school. I told em probably b cuz St Cecilia is the patron saint of music. We all love that!

I love that the band lets him play the drums. Hes got a group of fathers to help giide him through life.

Foo fan or not, this is one of the most moving moments in music history… Goosebumps the whole way through! It hurts as much as it alleviates some of the pain.

I just lost my dad over a month ago. This moved me to tears prior to his passing and, especially after. I also love the moment of love where the entire band is watching Shane wail on the drums during the end of song fill/solo. The love and joy as essentially his musical uncles watch on with pride.

One thing that strikes me is how in tune with the emotion of this moment the crowd is. I've never watched a live recording that picked up the audience so clearly as they sang along. That's incredible!

You can literally see Shane go through every emotion while playing the drums. He's legendary just like his father.

He drums as hard as Dave and as intensely as his dad. The fact that he could get up in front of 75,000 people in the stadium and millions at home and still absolutely nail this song says all you need to know about this amazing kid. All while still mourning the loss of his father.

To this day I don’t know how he held it together to perform like that. Lost my dad 3 years ago and I was just nothing for months. Incredible young man ❤️❤️

When I first heard this song, I knew nothing about the Foo-fighters. I just thought it was empowering for a father to have his son play drums on one of his songs. Then I realized what the song was about. A father sings about his son following in his footsteps. Being able to pursue his dreams and be just like their father. And that was my interpretation to become a hero, From a fathers perception. Now, I looked this song up on google. And now I see a child raging to drums over the loss of his father with his adopted uncles. He released his pain into the drums his father played. His father was his hero. The one he could never know now himself, only from the stories of his uncles. Although I like my interpretation of this song better: a father proud of his child's achievements. Shane's achievements are undeniable and I wish him all the best

I just realized that this must have been so hard for Dave. For over 20 years, he's looked back and seen Taylor playing drums during this song. To look back and see his son instead, and know that he will never see Taylor again, must be so hard. What a performance.

Honestly, one of the most raw, gritty moments in the history of rock. This kid laid it all out on the table months after his epic father died. This video will haunt and sustain me for life ❤️

This reminds me of Led Zeppelin and John Bonham who was the drumner of the band and after his passing his son performed with the band in a tribute ceremony. The performance of John Bonham' s son as well as seeing the performance of Taylor Hawkins son in this video just shows the love that these two sons have for continuing the drumming torch of their dads. God bless them 🙏🏾

I don't know that I've ever seen such raw, unfiltered emotion and energy as Shane put out there in this performance.

The fact that Dave Grohl himself said, that he's never seen anyone hit the drums as hard as Shane, means more than most people will realise.

My mother decided to go out with a 380acp bang. The world ain’t perfect but I’ll be the first to say I’ll take a foo fighters world anytime to make it perfect for me! The gods can leave but rock won’t run away! It’s the only peace I want or understand. I truly believe music is the way to a world more peaceful! You guys are my HEROS! 🫡

His Dad was right there with him and he knew it. They all saw the greatest accomplishment of their best friend. Beating every emotion he had felt out! He is his father's son.

The salute and exit was gangster. No tears, no speech. Just rocked out loud enough for his dad to hear.

This moment is such an unfiltered, raw, vulnerable piece of Rock History. Taylor is gone but he lives within Shane. A very powerful moment for him and I hope he heals from his past.

May every kid who loses their dad have a Dave Grohl who steps into their lives, looks on at their accomplishments with such pride in their eyes, and who supports them without fail. Shane killed it and really honored his father with such a passionate performance. Well done, kid.

You could feel Shane's emotions in every stroke of his drumsticks. A moving performance. Godspeed to the Hawkins family.

I think about how the band came together and gave that boy a chance to feel close to his father in the best way they could after his passing. And it fucks me up.
