Dave Grohl is very good at writing unconventional rhythmic ideas in straight 4/4, I'm thinking because he thinks of guitar riffs like a percussionist. His perspective helps him take ideas out of the traditional pocket.

Foo Fighters are one of my all time favorite bands. Can you please react to their songs My Hero, The Pretender, Stacked Actors, This Is A Call, Big Me, Walk, Run, These Days, Learn to Fly, All My Life, Times Like These, In Your Honor, No Way Back, Best of You, DOA, End Over End, Cold Day In The Sun, Long Road to Ruin, Cheer Up Boys (Your Make Up Is Running), Statues, Once & For All (Demo), Breakout, Bridge Burning, Dear Rosemary, Arlandria, Back & Forth, A Matter of Time, Better Off, Something From Nothing, The Feast and The Famine, Outside, In The Clear, Make It Right, The Sky Is A Neighborhood, La Dee Da, Sunday Rain, The Line, Concrete and Gold, Making a Fire, Cloudspotter, Shame Shame, Waiting On A War, Medicine At Midnight, No Son Of Mine, Chasing Birds, Saint Cecilia, Sean, Savior Breath, Iron Rooster, and The Neverending Sigh. Also, before you listen to anything off the Sonic Highways album, watch the docuseries they did. The album is based on the concept of “every studio sounds different.” So each song was recorded in a different city and each song is wither about or includes facts about the city or musician from the city. For instance, Something From Nothing was recorded in and is partially inspired by the blues scene of Chicago.

They have made some real classic pop-rock songs. Nothing fancy as you said but very catchy tunes.

There is a lot of Foo Fighters songs with a weird and catchy groove like this. All My Life, Times Like These, The Pretender, Bridge Burning, My Hero, No Son Of Mine, The Feast and The Famine, Rope are an example of that. I think that's because Dave Grohl is a drummer.

The Prentender has some chorus in the Round, and All My Life is another offbeat phrased song, and Rope has a lot of syncopation in the guitar rhythms.

The first song that got me really "hooked" into Foo Fighters back when i was a young man! To me, the best thing about it back and today is still the same: Listening to and going to a live Foo Fighters concert always has that "feel good" feeling: Having fun while listening to (even when there are some more somber songs) and just good and warm vibrations all around!

I wasn't a fan of their first album, and I wanted to be being a Nirvana fan. But this song is the first track on their second album and I loved every bit of it. This song included.

Man, I haven't listened to this in such a long time and it just brings back how much I loved this album. So much memories of trashing around my room in high school, blasting my voice out and running out of air on that "one last thing before I quit..." part. Still don't know how Dave manages his breath there.

Girl from Ipanema? I only now the hilarious instrumental mall music latin version by Walter Wanderley, you should check it out! (not in a reaction though). The whole album's just that, instrumental mall latin xD That last verse in this song here though - I love rock bands that dare to be punk too rather clearly.

Dave Grohl’s vocal intensity 🔥💥🔥To me that section of the song seems like a bridge. But regardless, it’s also like the antithesis of a breakdown- everything just goes way UP. So kudos for rocking out and hard. Otherwise, seeing guitarist Pat Smear brought back a memory of when I saw Nirvana live, and he blasted out the opening chords of “Territorial Pissings” on second guitar. It. Was. LOUD. But R.I.P. Taylor Hawkins. And now this chorus is stuck playing in my head.

Once again we are in agreement David. I always thought the chorus was a little weak vocally until that last time when the response was added. I'm with you on your rating. love the last verse with the amped intensity and last chorus especially.

This is the song when I realized that Dave Grohl took an unfair amount of talent when it was being handed out. Such a talent hog. It won't get views, but check out the Probot project, where he gets all of his favorite artists together and writes songs with them in their style. It's such a great effort from a true fan of music.
