Welcome back and thanks to everyone who’s stuck with my horrendous KZfaq schedule! Today I bring you some reviews of food-centered books! In this festive season, we’re all hungry (!!!!) for some delicious food related content and here it is!! We discuss language around food, prescriptive attitudes around food, nostalgia, disability cookbooks, female pleasure and more! I hope you enjoy 💚 Any good food books you can recommend?
All my love,
Vix xxx

Thank you so much lovely one!! What’s there not to love about food and books - even more so together! Have you read Tandoh’s book? I think you’d really like it. Eeek yes, fingers crossed. It’s a long and slow process but we really hope. We will have to meet up and go to a few bookstores if you ever find yourself there! 💚💚

I’d love that! And I haven’t read it yet no but have added to my list! Your video have inspired a little lunchtime cooking spree over here, I’ve just made Chrissy Tegan’s Mac & cheese and shocked myself at how much cheese and butter can go into one dish 😂🙈❤️

My dearest Vix, I am extremely glad to be able to watch your videos again. And I am very surprised to see that you chose food books and cooking books as a theme for your comeback video. I love the fact that Spanish and French traditions regarding food are practically the same. We celebrate everything with food, hahaha. As you stated, I find incredibly hard to find cooking books for disabled people (I used to cook more when I lived in the UK but my parents home, in Spain, is not adapted so I miss it very much) and I feel very angry about it because cooking, as an activity it gave me so much independence. Other than that I find that cooking books or food-related books because, as a wheelchair user, I have to be very cautious with what I eat as I don’t move so much and, as a result, I don’t burn all the calories I should (alongside the fact that last year I had heath issues related with food, although now I am well again). So, to me, the cooking books have to be easy for me to cook but also with food adapted to my needs and that´s extremely hard to find. Do you know any book of that sort? But I love your video and, especially the book about eating based in our instincts, Í´ll see if I can find it here in Spain. Lots of hugs from Spain (make sure you rest too!) Clara

Only just got round to watching this! I love reading about food and really loved the Ruby Tandoh book. Don't know Laurie Colwin, but she sounds great (sadly not available in my library). I love the book Laurel's Kitchen which is a recipe book from the 70s used lots on communes! It's great! Happy new year! Hope you get to move to New York xx

All books here sounds wonderfully filling and lovely and I've added Eat Up to my list. It's really good to see you again and hear your thoughts--they always put a massive smile on my face! I heard somewhere recently that most of us have disordered eating habits, regardless of whether or not we have a full blown disorder, and I think the push to understand our body's intuition when it comes to food is the answer to this. I've struggled with food in the past, and coming into my veganism (and I mean that--'mine', not 'raw' or 'high carb' or other trends that have failed me) has helped liberate my mind from that endless labyrinth of superstitious eating. Part of that has been about knowing I'm fueling myself with nurturing food, but that knowledge also allows me the freedom to indulge. A dash of my two cents! I hope you are well and that you have a very wonderful Christmas time!! xxxx

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment, lovely! I agree that society had pushed us towards a total lack of understanding of appetite and pleasure surrounding food. It’s something that I try and push back on when I can (hence this video!) I really hope you enjoy Eat Up!! Xxxx

U can mix 'n match the best of food from 3 traditions, the French, British & American. How much would you say that French culture is food-based culture? Moving to NYC huh. I'm a country mouse. Too bizzy for me but some love it.

I think French culture is really heavily food based if only because most important moments seem to take place around food. I love that and I think it’s so important to think of food and mealtimes as this living breathing thing rather than simply a means to an end in terms of fuel and energy :)
