Don't then already make a hasty conclusion please that it must be that the OP thinks badly about street vendors. You are the first one here making a connection between this man his job and it being lesser. I Got teary eyed as well, because I know it's a fact that in some societies and the one I live in as well that wealth , status and fame are seen as hallmarks of success. It is a sad sad state that people are willing to suffer for other people' s approvement. People let themselves be dependent on that approvement and risk their happiness and freedom. I got teary eyed, because to me the suit and his upright pose and neatly grooming does represent a dignified view of oneself which people often reserve for people of certain status and I think it is great that this man has this look for a profession that often is not seen by society deserving of that look. I myself respect greatly the job of a street vendor and there is nothing to suspect the OP thinks otherwise. I used to be restless and try to be special in life. I am a warehouse laborer and I used to feel bad about my job and shameful. but I see things way differnt now. We are a big organism together and I feel real pride in trying to do my part in society as good as possible and the image of this man to me is inspiring to stay on the good path and do my job as well as possible.

these street vendors often have to borrow money daily from sharks just to sell $5 worth and then have to give cut of that to the shark. Theyre barely making ends meet.

I will tell you this. I wanted to one-up the Universe so I got dressed in a nice shirt, jeans and sneakers to keep it semi-formal and went to drop in cans at the recycle center expecing flies and stuff. Although Ritz-Carlton it wasn't I was quite surprised at the bank notes for cash redemption value. It was crisp dollar bills with fresh scent and probably in 20 years the first time I touched such crisp notes with even bank ATMS don't give. Looks like cosmic wit had the last laugh. When you change, the world changes with you.
