മംഗലാപുരത്തു നമ്മൾ നേരത്തെ വീഡിയോ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു, പക്ഷെ ഏതായാലും മംഗലാപുരം വഴി പോവുമ്പോൾ നല്ല രുചികൾ ലഭിച്ചാൽ ഉറപ്പായും ആസ്വദിക്കണമല്ലോ. അങ്ങനെ മാർട്ടിന്റെ കസിൻ ടോണി പറഞ്ഞത് അനുസരിച്ചു വിറകടുപ്പിൽ ചുട്ടെടുക്കുന്ന പിസ്സ കിട്ടുന്ന ഒരു ചെറിയ റെസ്റ്റോറന്റിൽ പോയി. അവിടെ നിന്ന് നല്ല പിസ്സ, പിന്നെ നല്ല പോട്ട് റൈസ് അതും കൂടാതെ കുറച്ചു പാസ്ത. പക്ഷെ പിസ്സ തന്നെയാണ് ഏറ്റവും നന്നായത്. വിറകടുപ്പിൽ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ പിസയുടെ രുചി ഒന്ന് വേറെ തന്നെ.
പിസ്സ ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത് തുറന്ന അടുക്കളയിൽ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും കാണുവാൻ പറ്റുന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ്. ചൂട് കാരണം അടുപ്പിന്റെ ചുറ്റും ഉള്ള ടൈൽസ് ഒക്കെ കുറച്ചു പൊട്ടിയും പൊടിഞ്ഞും കണ്ടെങ്കിലും വൃത്തിയുടെ കാര്യത്തിൽ അവിടെ ഒരു പരാതിയും തോന്നിയില്ല.
അടുത്ത ദിവസം രാവിലെ മാർട്ടിനും ടോണിയ്ക്കും ഒപ്പം ഷെട്ടിസ് ലഞ്ച് ഹോമിൽ പോയി കുറച്ചു നാടൻ രുചികളും കഴിച്ചു. കർണാടകയിലെ ഇഡലി അല്ലാത്ത ഇഡലിയും പിടി പോലത്തെ പുണ്ടിയും കൂടെ കോഴിക്കറിയും കഴിച്ചു. കൊട്ടിഗേ മൂടേ എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ടു വിഭവങ്ങൾ ആണ് അവിടെ പുതുതായി കഴിച്ചത്. ഇഡ്ലിയുടെ മാവ് ആണ് രണ്ടിനും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്. ഒന്ന് ഓലയിലും ഒന്ന് പ്ലാവിലയിലും പൊതിഞ്ഞു വേവിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നു എന്ന് മാത്രം വ്യത്യാസം. കുന്ദാപുര ചിക്കൻ കറിയും എനിക്ക് ഒത്തിരി ഇഷ്ടം ആയി.
Although we had done many Mangalore food videos during our last visit, we tried a few more outlets this time. A firewood pizza, and a few authentic Karnataka dishes. Martin's cousin, Tony recommended this pizza restaurant for us. Here, pizza is cooked in firewood oven in an open kitchen. The kitchen has been kept very neat and clean, although the tiles around the oven were broken. It was obviously due to heat. Pizza tasted good as well.
Next morning, we tried some authentic traditional Karnataka food. It was from Shetty's Lunch Home. Moode, Kottige, and Pundi, all were similar to our Kerala dishes. Moode and Kotttige were cooked using idli batter, while pundi resembled our Idiyappam. Leaf-wrapped moode and kottige were more to my likes, than pundi.
They also served Kundapura chicken curry with these. I relished this curry cooked with grated coconut. Martin made a different choice, and opted for seafood meals. Tony was also with us to explain everything. It was a wonderful food treat in Mangalore.
