"Fool's Overture is one of my favorite pieces that I've ever written. It was very magical the way it came together. It was actually three separate pieces of music that I had for a few years and then, one day, they kind of all slotted together in what I think is a magnificent, kind of epic piece of music. I always imagined performing it with an orchestra, so when I did start playing with orchestras back in the '90s, it was such a thrill to play this song. I still get goosebumps to his day every time I get an opportunity perform it with an orchestra." ~Roger Hodgson
Roger Hodgson, co-founder of Supertramp, is the singer/songwriter of this masterpiece, Fool's Overture. Roger, one of the greatest writers & composers of our time, originally had three separate pieces of music that one day magically came together and became this treasure. You can see Roger on tour this year performing Fool's Overture and many others - Visit www.RogerHodgson.com
or / rogerhodgson . This performance is from Rotterdam, Night of the Proms 1995.
Roger gave us Dreamer, The Logical Song, Give a Little Bit, Breakfast in America, School, Hide in Your Shell, It's Raining Again, Take the Long Way Home & more. Although Roger & Supertramp's other co-founder shared writing credit, they actually wrote & composed separately with each singing their own respective songs: bit.ly/1Kfgu0W
Share your experience of Roger's shows or what his songs mean to you~
"I was totally blown away.I've waited to see you live since 1970 when I first started listening to Supertramp. Your music has been with me through my teen years, the birth of my children and for many of my life events. Each song holds different memories. Seeing you live I was thrilled by the passion that you bring to life in each of those songs. I had tears running down my face at one point with such sheer delight. Thank you so much for your music."
"This man is pure genius. He opened his concert with long way home and instantly had tears streaming down my face. His voice, his passion I think is so much stronger now than back in the day of Supertramp. 2 hours of sheer delight."
"I've always loved your writing and you vocals, but I cannot describe what a memorable night that was. Seeing you is way beyond a concert, the way you interact with the audience, the way you're a truly humble and genuine person made a night I will never forget. Thank you for a truly life altering night!"

65, me i am 66. I miss the old days with such groups like supertramp, genesis, pink floyd, jethro tull and many more.At 1971 i was at Fehmarn. In a concert with Jimi Hendrix. 3 days later the trouble at home was idiotic. But now they are all dead, Grandpa, grandma,ma and pa. And in the 70 ies i lost many good friends. All overdosed by heroin. Hope there will not come WWW3. General Kujat says they must stopp sending weapons. In German TV he is not interviewed. He says the war will get WWW3. But Switzerland still interviews him. He was the highest General of Germany and für a time the highest of the NATO. I hope peace will come. For me it is not so important. But for young guys ! I wish You all the very best -and much luck. General Kujat is on YT.

Without question, "Fool's Overture" should be considered one of the greatest musical compositions of the 20th century. Roger Hodgson's epic masterpiece played here with a live orchestra is an example of the extraordinary creative results that are possible in the realm of music when cosmic level inspiration touches a talented human being. Sadly, real music like this is no longer "allowed" to be published or released to mass audiences and the results have been disastrous, given the noise pollution that is now regularly heard on pop music radio.

I was around 19 when I caught the Supertramp bug. Hodgson's infectious optimism and faith in the human spirit resonated deeply during that otherwise dark time, with Vietnam in full insanity mode and Watergate looming on the horizon. Who could have imagined that things would get even worse four decades later? It is so gratifying that Hodgson has has kept his voice and energy, and that younger generations immediately get him, and that he continues to sell out concert halls around the world. Maybe there is hope after all.

History recalls how great the fall can be While everybody's sleeping, the boats put out to sea Borne on the wings of time It seemed the answers were so easy to find "To late, " the prophets (profits) cry The island's sinking, let's take to the sky Called the man a fool, striped him of his pride Everyone was laughing up until the day he died And though the wound went deep Still he's calling us out of our sleep My friends, we're not alone He waits in silence to lead us all home So tell me that you find it hard to grow Well I know, I know, I know And you tell me that you've many seeds to sow Well I know, I know, I know Can you hear what I'm saying Can you see the parts that I'm playing "Holy Man, Rocker Man, Come on Queenie, Joker Man, Spider Man, Blue Eyed Meanie" So you found your solution What will be your last contribution? "Live it up, rip it up, why so lazy? Give it out, dish it out, let's go crazy, Yeah!"

I get completely weak in the knees at the opening of this melancholy and sad minute of this epic song, as if it's 1977 all over again and all my best friends are still alive and surrounding me. To you Kip Stewart, stalwart friend and warrior who turned me onto Supertramp, those insane shows in Montreal, the parties in the Stone House in Vermont, the wild bonfire dancing and the tripping, ohhhhhh the tripping amigo. God bless you brother! This was our album! Peace!

Yes Torry, so many epic adventures, saw them 5 times in 2 tours, scalper tickets were reasonable. Several now 'passed over ' friends, one in particular-Brenda C, still comes to my radar, and I get weepy we can share this music. Thanks Supertramp. I don't like to thank just one artist, you all created amazing magic together.
