Zebraman is cool as fuck. There is nothing wrong with hunting and fishing and listening to country music either. We used to make fun of guys in their 50's who still had Elvis sideburns and only listened to 50s rock in when I was a teenager. Zebraman just moved on, as he had every right to do. I know a lot of metalheads who used to call people who were into hair metal and British New Wave of Heavy Metal posers even back in the 80s when they were jamming to Slayer, Motorhead and Cannibal Corpse. If you had been able to find proof that he was wearing a wig in Heavy Metal Parking lot and "pretending" to like Judas Priest that would qualify him as a poser - not finding out that he's moved onto other things and got his shit together in middle age. Poser is a relative term but the way I remember it being used it was to refer to be phony at that moment, not 20 years later. All my 80s friends who are still into metal are dying off of alcoholism, obesity and years of drug abuse now. Sometimes you got to change your act to stay alive. I finally cut my hair at age 48 in 2016 and you know what? It helped me get out of a rut. More power to Zebraman!
@RealityCheckTV Жыл бұрын
"Poser" was a term used by thrashers towards "Metal Heads" who only liked the lighter more commercial mainstream bands like Dokken,Bon Jovi,Def Lepard, even Crue & WASP. It was an elitist underground term for people into thrash and death metal or anything viewed as "True Metal". The thrash stuff was just creeping into the mainstream a this point in time. There's nothing poser about NWOBHM as it was very influential on the thrash bands. Zebraman and and most of the kids in that video probably never heard the term poser or were aware of the thrash underground.

And as campy as it can be at times, it's our lifeblood, and we take it very seriously, deep down. We are devout. Sure, life happens. You get married, have kids, try to get a decent job, face new challenges, that's life. But in the longrun, if you were ever a metalhead, then you will ALWAYS be one. ThrashIsBack100 Not passionless...I just grew up. Metal is still my favorite music after more than 30 years, but I'm not caught up in all the external trappings of it. Most old "metalheads" still caught up in the look and the "underground lifestyle" of it all think they're coming off as metal as Steve Harris or Rob Halford, but in actuality, they come off more like Wayne's World or Beavis & Butthead. LOL trust me, I am NOT about to sell myself short and remain stuck in a suspended state of adolescence in order to prove my "metaldom" to caricatures like yourself.
@ThrashIsBack1009 жыл бұрын
You just replied with a comment that I actually somewhat agree with. If you're that age and your caught up in being as metal AS POSSIBLE, you have some maturing to do, i mean im 18 and i dont try to be "METAL AS FUCKK DOOOD UR NOT METAL" that ended when i was 15 , But i still think that wearing shirts of bands you love and having long hair, going to shows, having a room full of records is NOT immature bud, its just who people end up being. Some people are 50 + and have rooms full of hockey stuff, they play hockey on weekends, and watch every game, You arent calling them immature are ya? The immature people would be saying "IM GONNA BE GRETZKY!" at age 45..... But youre first comment was fucking unreasonable, and put down adults as a whole, and just came across as jealous. Like i said, you did clear it up and make it more agreeable. But you first made it sound like anyone above the age 40 cannot wear band shirts (and other things) and be passionate about metal.
@nefty739 жыл бұрын
ThrashIsBack100 Anyone of any age can do pretty much whatever they want...even if it looks ridiculous. Some people are conscious enough to know when their "metal look" no longer works for them (if it ever did), and others keep trying to look like they did back in high school. The latter gets harder to pull off successfully as one ages, and is indicative of either stunted personal growth, fear of change, or both. That said, I can now understand why James, Lars and other metal band guys cut their hair when they got older; some people just don't feel that way anymore. It has nothing to do with being passionless. People have every right to evolve as they personally see fit, but videos such as this one are an example of how the metal community is full of some of the most closed-minded and immature people on earth. .

There's nothing wrong with expanding and liking many types of music and having many different interest. But I was, am and always will be metal to my core

So apparently you're calling this man a poser because he grew up to living a normal life? I mean people do change, they grow up & they move on into adulthood. It's part of Life. Deal with it. He may not be a Metalhead anymore but that doesn't mean he was never one to begin with. I'm sure he's got a good job, lives in a nice house taking care of his wife & kids. And now you're calling him a poser just for being an Adult? Y'all are some sad people.

I agree with your post Darkless,but I think they were referring to him being a poser back then.

Why is it wrong for someone who gets older to continue to enjoy the things they did when they were younger? When you look at bands like Iron Maiden do you consider them pathetic? Dio was in his seventies up on stage saying metal rules and wearing concert shirts. So why can't the fans be the same? They don't all have to run around and act like idiots. I know a guy who is 79 that was a true Metalhead and everybody loved him. He would sit in the back and just enjoy the shows. Others similarly old taking photographs and sharing stories. Never heard anyone make fun of them. Only somebody immature that truly never grew up and probably opposer themselves would think that way. I wasn't an idiot as a teenager screaming and acting crazy. Would get into the pit and bang my head with my friends and I still have a lot of friends now that will do the same thing. A couple are lawyers. One has the same long hair he did even. Medical professions , FBI, CIA summer still in bands playing out and touring even . many of my friends went on to high respectable positions that still wear their band shirts, go to concerts and some may head bang, in some major stand back I'm watch. Whatever they feel. I know a few that will still get in the pit and a couple of them make sure to remove the fake posers from the pit. The ones that don't follow the rules and go in there just trying to get into fist fights. They were taken out then and these so-called old men can still take out those young fake posers. The end tag says it all. "If you're not into Metal now, then you never were!"

He's not a poser. He clearly was extremely passionate about metal back in the day, and people change, tastes change etc. You're not a poser for being a different person to who you were 40 years ago.

lol How funny, I remember watching this and then checking out the extra features where they interview him and being really sad at how uncomfortable he obviously is at remembering his heavy metal past.

Whoever put this up and labelled him a poser obviously has their own issues which need addressing. The guy is awesome. Zebraman will always be more interesting than the person who posted this video.

A lot of people in the 80's just liked to party and metal was the biggest party. He had fun and moved on, maybe you should too?
@hmpz369115 жыл бұрын
Those types were never metal. And metal isn't something you move on from. It's something you live for. It's about finding your voice and expressing it. Maybe you don't understand because you're not passionate about it. For me, it was never about the party element, it was always about something deeper than that, and at the risk of sounding pretentious, it's sacred.
