In this video we will be looking at the Waterworks foot valves. A Foot Valve combines a suction screen and a non-return valve. They are usually positioned at the bottom of a suction line with the screen preventing unwanted debris from entering the pipeline while the non-return valve prevents backflow and allows a pump to retain its prime. Foot Valves are used in a wide range of industry’s including water treatment plants, marine applications, chemical processing, and agriculture.
In this range we have two types of Swing Foot Valves; we have the PVC Flanged Foot Valve, and the Glass Reinforced Polypropylene BSP Threaded Foot Valve.
Let’s look at the specifications of the Swing Foot Valves, starting with the PVC Flanged option:
1. The valves body, the filter and flange are constructed from PVC, the disc is ABS, and all metal components are 316 stainless steel.
2. The flange has a universal bolt pattern.
3. Waterworks stocks these Flanged Swing Foot valve in sizes 100mm and 150mm.
4. 100mm are pressure rated to PN10 and 150mm are pressure rated to PN6. These pressure ratings are given at 22 degrees Celsius.
Now let’s look at the specifications of the Glass Reinforced Polypropylene, also known as GRPP, Lever Swing Foot Valves.
1. The valve body, the disc and filter are made from high-strength Glass Reinforced Polypropylene plastic. Again, all metal components are 316 stainless steel.
2. The quick-release lever activates a self-cleaning mechanism which is used to release water contained within the pipeline.
3. Waterworks stocks the GRPP Swing Foot Valve in sizes 80mm and 100mm.
4. 80mm and 100mm valves are pressure rated to PN10. These pressure ratings are given at 22 degrees Celsius.
1. Both the PVC and GRPP foot valves have an EPDM seat, gaskets, and O-rings.
2. The operating temperature for both valves is 4°C to 40°C, but they can handle temperature spikes of up to 60°C.
