Really happy as a Brit that we have been able to offer so much manpower enablement on top of equipment. Weapons are important but you don't want or need cannon fodder.. you need an effective force that can use that weaponry and be enabled to tactically survive and move on so they can take a role in the strategy that their commanders are requesting that they prosecute.

These guys are fighting to save their homes/families and country. That is why they are super motivated as many have lived under dictatorships and have no desire to return to such a system nor do they want their children etc to go through what they went through. In the West we have become soft as governments go into debt to provide welfare etc to get people to vote for them. Just think when did any western government actually do something constructive for the country for the future. Everything is geared to welfare to have us dependent on the party in power prepared to give the most but those working etc pay, pay and pay and get little in return. In the 70's/80's less than 1 in 7 people received some form of government support now it is 1 in 2 and soon 1 to 1. Who will want to work when they can get free welfare? Look how poorer countries have progressed in the last 40 years while our societies are going backwards. Real wages for the average worker are today no better than 10 years ago but the cost of everything has gone through the roof. And, sadly it will get worse whilst governments export jobs to meet climate targets whilst other developing nations are increasing their carbon emissions taking over our industries work. We have been sold a pup by our governments and slowly are losing our democracy as minorities rule the roost whilst majorities are dictated to.

This is why the new Russian conscripts are in deep trouble with the approaching winter weather. Most of them are poorly equipped and must purchase their own equipment and gear. Ukraine is inflicting heavy losses on Russian supplies and equipment. They’re short of food and equipment and winter gear.

@@Jack96993 Foot wraps are okay if you're used to them from civilian life or have experienced NCOs to guide you through wearing them over the course of months. Unfortunately for those conscripts, foot wraps haven't been common in Russian civilian life for a long time, and the armed forces gave up on them back in 2009, so except for those who served in the pre-Serdyukov days there's no one to teach them.

I have a (somewhat imperfect) recollection of reports to German commanders during their initial advance from Belgium into France in WWI. An over-excited lower-ranking officer told his commander that the French had been routed, and the commander asked where was the abandoned equipment--rifles, overcoats, supplies, etc. There weren't any abandoned supplies, so it was an orderly retreat. Other reports came in from spies that French forces had been sighted singing on the march to new positions. So again an orderly retreat, not a rout. Maybe those stories come from "The Guns of August." The resistance of the Belgian forts was the stuff of legend too; the Germans thought the Belgians would collapse immediately, but they dynamited bridges and tunnels that the Germans absolutely needed to advance and fought until their defenses were reduced to rubble and they had no ammunition. As for controlling civilians by terror, to this day one can see many gravestones there reading (in French) "Shot by the Germans" with dates corresponding to the German invasions of WWI and WWII. The Ukrainians will remember this war for a thousand years.

Great to watch this, anyone who was part of the 80s/90s European based NATO aremd forces knows what the training was like to counter the Russian threat. So seeing the troops in Ukraine develop their skills and upgrade their kit is excellent. All the feedback I have heard about them is that their motivation is huge! We have some refugees from Ukraine staying in the village here in the UK and they are so positive about their troops, likewise they want to return to rebuild their country and while they love the UK they are focused on going home. Lots of training. Lots of support. And lots of weaponry. But at the core of this situation, is the resolve and the fight of these amazing Ukrainian People. And yes - the soldiers, specifically, have come so far, in such a small amount of time. After all.... they didn't really have much choice. It was to accomplish just that - or to die, along with their Country. Really impressed with them. Meanwhile.... Orcs continue to be Orcs. When it became clear to them that bombing women and children from long distance is the only thing they are good at..... and that their military is a joke.... they reverted to being Orcs. That's who they are. That's what they do. But I will say... they are really, really good at stealing toilets and washing machines. They have perfected these practices. Very impressive!

Adjusting the "shoelaces" as he calls them inside the helmet to proper tension is fundamental for the helmet to work. Already the medieval helmets had clearly grasped the concept of the protective shell banging the head when impacted is a bad thing, and thus had similar suspension. If you adjusted the straps correctly, it can take a lance hit powered by two 800 kg horses racing towards each other.

I'm ex British army Maritime, we used to do the West Highland way in Scotland a couple of times a year with boots and around 20lb of kit. it's around 100 miles and finishes at Ben Nevis and we used to do 24-30hrs. I believe the current record is with the Ghurka's at around 17 hours. No way you might say but it's only around 4-5 miles per hour with a few hours sleep grabbed around the half way point. Obviously this is not under combat conditions and done with plenty of planning, supplies and support. It does however show what's possible. Ps if you ever get the chance to do the west Highland way.......just do it

Oh my goodness! Best video yet. I hope somebody has a screenshot of Paul in the vintage helmet. 😊channel subs should be meme-ing this. I absfnlutely loved it. Thank goodness I wasn't sipping a drink. I had no exp. with military maneuvers and war. Thanks for providing clear information. I pause the video and look for more detail if I don't understand something. I have to limit my rabbit holing.

I'll offer a theory on, at 6:05, why a single (cargo?) truck would just be sitting there chilling, to be destroyed. It was parked there to loot by the Orcs themselves, and then torched to make it look like enemy action. And you mentioned boots. My first Pass in Basic, I went to the Red Wing store and bought a well fitted pair of _steel toed_ Combat Boots. With insoles. My feet were much happier.

Signal veteran here. The US Army requires (and has required for decades) all troops in initial training (BCT and AIT pre-Alpha+) to maintain and wear their initial, basic combat uniform, which includes the basic boots, until training is over, they enter an Alpha+ phase, or they are cleared for medical reasons to wear an alternate. This includes Jungles, Hi-Tecs, various other nonissued, and "steel toed combat boots from Red Wing", all which are precluded from a training soldier's uniform. Look at it this way: you can't change your haircut or swap out your Birth-Control Glasses (BCGs) until after training, why would they let you wear Hi-Tecs? So what branch were you in and how long ago?

@@mnspstudioful Army. 1874. Vietnam was still fresh in our minds. It may very well not have been allowed, but not a single one of my Drill Sergeants ever said anything about it, other than "Nice boots." Every Drill Sergeant in our company was a Vietnam Vet. And a ridiculous number of them wore a Baby Blue Pentagon with Stars on their hat. I wish we'd had the other "Name Brands" back then, or that they were at least more widely known. And yes, I bought two pair, so I could wear them on alternate days.

I have East German helmets, produced around 1988 and never been used. This is probably what is in the Russian stockpiles as well. They are not very different from helmets they used in 1945. Just an iron bowl with a leather strap attached to it and almost the same model the Russians had during WW II, it only looks a little bit smoother.

4:04 Wanted to comment on the scene composition of this shot - good vertical lines, between the hands releasing the dove and the power pole on the right, with good horizontal lines in the building. Juxtaposition of the dove representing peace, and the destroyed roof representing warfare. And of course the blue bands representing Ukrainian hands, creating peace from victory.

I was surprised, frankly, when a rag-tag punch of civilians and some Ukrainian military blunted the Russian aggression at the start of the war. I read one thread on one podcast, that said the civilians that went to the UK for training just never stopped. They worked, worked, worked at becomecoming solders. Think the first 100,000 of these solders have begun to entire the battle field. Another commentator said the Ukraines are tech savvy and pick up the use of technology sophisticated weaponry quickly. The Ukrainian solders knows what they're fighting for and they seem fearless and focused. What they've been able to do in this war is really unbelievable.
