The audio is not extracted from the video shown, the audio is from the recording of the last mating call heard from the now extinct species of bird, believed to be sung from the last bird of the species.
The video was extracted from a data archive.
Apprently wikipedia was wrong. (shocking)
"In the 1970s, the only known footage of the bird was filmed by John L. Sincock on Super 8 film"
Other footage exists.

This footage is from 1985 while the audio was recorded 2 years later in 1987. Despite extensive measures and surveys, we have yet to even find a single trace of it's kind, although it's possible that the specias may have been breeding hidden, because it was proclaimed extinct two times before as well before being rediscovered but... it's very unlikely that it's still alive.

The really sad thing is that the pauses in his song are where a female is supposed to join in. It's not just that the species is now gone, its that the last remaining members died alone.

Nani Kauai. She took me in in '88. I stayed on for 26 years. The bird song that filled Kokee (a mountainous, interior section) was heartbreakingly beautiful. But the landscape was so dense, one could never actually see the tiny, fantastically colored birds. One afternoon, I lay down beside a trail and started to blow on my harmonica. A few minutes latter, I looked up and a dozen birds (males, I'd guess!) were ranged all around me- checking out the ''new bird'' come to their land! I felt quite honored. I've been back on the mainland for about 7 years, but most nights I return to Nani Kauai, in my dreams. Hopefully, someone will scatter my ashes at Polihale, after I'm gone.

Make sure you write that last bit in your will. Make a will, if you get the "fill in the blanks" forms they're pretty cheap. My father ended up with the ashes of a guy he knew. His hair-brained seriously neurotic sister didn't even care and so my dad was designated as "well you come to the funeral so you might as well have them". Bloody unbelievable. He spread his ashes on the coast where he spent his last few years.

Animals don't..think like that. They just don't. They don't process foresight in the same way we do. Simply because thinking about what WILL happen takes up too much time and energy. Many animals (mostly predatory animals) can formulate simple plans, communicate in effective ways and calculate cause and effect. But a lion isn't going to have any concept of what it'll do next week, because to the lion, next week doesn't exist, only the now.

The manu O"O had little yellow feathers under it's wings. In ancient times, the bird catcher would put glue onto a branch and wait for an O'O to arrive. He would then pull out the yellow feathers for capes and hats made for just the ali'i or royalty. He would release the O'O to regrow its yellow feathers. You can view these capes and hats at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu.

This was the last kauai ō'ō bird in existence when this footage was recorded. All the other birds of his kind were extinct, and he was unaware that he was the only one left alive. He tried to call out for a female not knowing there were none left. The cameraman who recorded this played a soundtrack of a female kauai bird in an attempt to make the poor bird feel less alone. As of 2023 all of them are extinct. I feel so bad for that bird, calling out for another bird not knowing he's the only one left. There's also something eerie about the birdsong....

I lived in Hawaii when hurricane Iniki hit Kauai in 1992. At the time the local news said that hurricane probably is what killed the last one. What really killed them was mosquitoes adapting to higher cooler altitudes. Mosquitoes carrying diseases the native birds had no resistance to. Once the mosquitoes made it to the Alikai swamp at the summit of Kauai, there was no refuge left.
