German supporters show that far more powerful forces can be defeated, or at least held at bay, through solidarity, organisation and just sheer numbers. 2018 was a good year for German supporter activism. But next year they will have to do this all over again. Because power and money never sleeps.

Germany may not have the same level of star power as la liga or the EPL, but it's become my favorite league by a good distance because the passion from the supporters is unmatched. Last year after saving for a few years I had the opportunity to watch a game at signal iduna park (i'm american) and it was unbelievable! I wasn't even a dortmund fan and I had chills at how electric the crowd was (against stuttgart, not even bayern or schalke). Cheers to hoping the activism continues to work and German football stays as passionate and fan driven as it is now!

My country Sweden also has the same rule (51%). Ticket prices for the standing sections is cheap and that creates a very good atmosphere, especially at derbys and at the same time being very well organised. The rule also obviously means that a single owner or company can’t buy a club totally. The supporters here are very passionate about retaining the rule. And yes, whilst the league may never be a competetor for the top 5 leagues, it focusoses heavily on the supporters and what is football without true local supporters?

Visited Stockholm a couple of years ago and managed to get a ticket to the Hammarby vs Djurgardens match, an absolute mad house, yes it will never be EPL or La Liga but who cares, it doesnt have to be, just the passion in the stands was worth the ticket price.

I sometimes have the feeling that Premier League fans don't really know that german clubs can't spend so much money. At the end of the season the last one in the Premier League gets more money than Bayern as first place in the bundesliga. I'm a Bremen fan and I'm happy when my club is able to do a 5million transfer!! That is lower championship level in terms of money. On the other hand there are Prem clubs which spend 40 million for players who barely play. The Prem is losing it's identity because they only buy complete foreign stars.

@olewiemers2344
@olewiemers2344 5 жыл бұрын

@olewiemers2344
@olewiemers2344 5 жыл бұрын

@matthiaswestphal1086
@matthiaswestphal1086 3 жыл бұрын
Well, I think the voices of these who whanted to abolish 50 plus 1 are quiet now. We have seen what happened in England and Italy, so its not dumb to keeping it. But the other side is, that the english fans seem to woke up now. I think the EPL is still the most attractive league in europe, but there are few things that gone in a wrong direction. More business, less football for the fans. But I always thought that the importance of football and the way it is lived by the fans in England is very similar to us in Germany. And now, if I see the fans from LFC and ManU and so on, stand up and dont take all of this anymore, it is really impressive. But I still wonder what is going on in Spain and Italy? Italy foremost with its huge amount on organized ultra groups?

what I like about the Bundesliga is that it still seems to be pretty "authentic" meaning that (ok Bayern excluded) all the teams seem to have a period of success (top 3 or very near) and decline when they are near or in the bottom 3 this makes the league interesting to watch and much more reliable on cultivating the "normal" players and making them push for better and better performance because each such a "normal" player turning into a "top" player or at least a gamechanger can mean you are gonna battle for the Europa league or even Champions league depends just on how many such player transformations you will be able to make this also allows teams to continuously introduce young players to the team pushing for them to become the next "top" players and hence securing for the team place in the top 7 (or similar) when also in the same time this gives a big chance for the players from leagues that f.e. Premier league has no interest in f.e. Poland, Czech, Slovak, Swiss, Austrian etc. because in Germany since the clubs do not have 40mils to spend on one player they try their luck with cheaper yet promising players from such countries giving them a change to prove themselves on this level and probably become top players and move to PL or elsewhere - this was not mentioned in the video and I believe is a for a lot of football fans from those countries a national team savior anyways a great video I only can wish the articles on BBC or other websites (not even starting on those from my country - Czech Republic) would be so informative and good to read as this video

Good explained and I hope for the next 10-20 years the Bundesliga is the same as today because I dont want it to be like in England especially for the newcoming generation. I see young people enter the stands for their first time and its just unique, the atmosphere in some Bundesliga stadiums are incredible especially when it comes to Derby or just a big match. For me as an Eintracht Frankfurt supporter, this means everything. Our next monday match is at Düsseldorf in march and I dont think that i can make it although Düsseldorf is a great place for an away match especially because of the powerful and emotional supporters on both sides.

Can you make a video about the meteoric rise of Robin Jansson? He was playing for a team from the middle of nowhere in the lower tiers of Swedish football 12 months ago, and has now earned a call up to the Swedish national team after his performances during AIK’s title win. AIK, through injuries, found themselves lacking defenders at the start of the season and had played Robin Jansson’s team in the cup, and signed him, and he scored the winner in the last game of the season that won them the league.

And if possible, could you also explain how come Volkswagen hasn't poured more money into the football team, like Red Bull has done with their football teams? I mean, Volkswagen is bigger and richer then Red Bull and they could turn Vfl Wolfsburg into a powerful team, if they wanted to; although that might be the reason why they haven't faced the animosity that Red Bull Leipzig has faced. Also they have rules that don't allow clubs to operate on extreme debt/losses, like most, if not all other clubs in the EPL or La Liga do, so that's another plus. The Bundesliga is in a great spot, all their teams need to do is start getting results in Europe (outside of Bayern/Dortmund) and more money will be flowing in. They already broadcast a decent number of games on Fox Sports here in the US.

I very much respect the research you did and the result you are presenting, which I believe exceeds even your high standards. However I would like to note that I believe you over-romanticize the relation between German fans and officials, as well as the impact of, or what you actually determine as the German supporters. As you have correctly stated, RB Leipzig, effectively a Red Bull Marketing product with which I believe to be seven officiall 'Vereinsmitglieder' (Club members, whereas "Verein" is a very important, community-oriented form of personal union in Germany, differing for example from the "AG" (eg. FC Bayern München AG, the FC Bayern Munich you all know) which is profit-oriented), sneaked it's way to the top of the Bundesliga. The Red Bull Clubs also effectively unginged rules and checks of the UEFA for player transfer (RB Salzburg serving as an "academy team" to RB Leipzig, giving and taking players without the rules of the free market). But allow me to keep my focus on Germany. Additionally to the RB scandal, which is what I will call a company buying themselves into the highest German football league with officials just watching, the relation between German supporters and the DFB (German football association)/DFL (German football league association) is at a significant low at the moment. Monday night games, which I seriously doubt the DFB will keep their word and abolish, the failed negotiations about the use of pyrotechnics, the distribution of TV rights and the fact that the radical "Ultra" groups see themselves as the only "true" fans and representers of German football supporters, making negotiations and the rise of moderate fan groups almost impossible, have hardened the borders between fans and officials to a point where investors seem like the easier and more attractive dialogue partners for the DFB. Additionally, the corruption scandal, which had no consequences at all amongst the DFB officials, has not only weakened the trust put into the association by the fans, but also gives reason to believe that a little cash still opens doors in German football, an accusation enforced by the unreasonably and uncomarably high support from the DFB towards RB Leipzig, the only company-led club in the Bundesliga. Resulting from this statement, I would like to point out that, firstly, the differenctiation between the silent majority of German football supporters and the loud minority of the Ultra groups would, in my opinion, have been a very important point towards the topic of your video, and secondly, that the strong resistance of German football supporters against commercialization of the German Bundesliga is displayed by you in an overly positive way, not respecting the acute dangers we face here at the moment sufficiently, as I see it, that is. I would most politely suggest looking into this topic for another video. Salutations, Angelo Güntlisberger, German football supporter

What corruption scandal? The bribery to get the world cup, the Uli Hoeness one, the VAR one, the Ozil one, or another one?

@@ktkee7161 as my predecessor in the comments has already pointed out, most of these would, in my view, not classify as a corruption scandal. I am in fact referring to the WC corruption scandal, which is pretty relevant at the moment, in contrast to the Hoizer scandal, the other large scandal in latest German football history, which is considered dealt with.

The reality is culturally the German are use to working as a collective and naturally defend the little guy. We do not have that culture anymore in the UK, capitism is the foundation of our culture. Always interesting content. Happy New year 🎉

That's true. It's a bit more complex than they portray, because German culture is very different.

I had to chuckle at 2:43: "generisch" is a correct translation of generic, but it would sound very odd if used in an example like this, in German we would rather say "FC Durchschnitt" or FC average, to create an example.

@Tifo Football, can you guys make a video about the rise of Spanish clubs like Barca, Real and Atletico during late 00s and the relation of it to the unequal distribution of revenues in La Liga? Also the scandals of Platini where he said he feared English teams would dominate Europe. Thanks in advance 👌

I wonder what football would be like in the UK / England if it were run on the German model ?? Equally, would the England National Football Team have been more successful with this type of League Structure ?
