I also notice that a lot of the video is focused on the passing game. This is fine, and nothing wrong with the emphasis as it is one of the most important aspects of the game. However, there is something that is often overlooked on the offensive side of the ball and that is the rushing attack. Teams that are able to effectively run the ball, while only gaining 2.5-4 yards per try on average, they are slowly wearing away at the defense's abilitiy and endurance. From a purely logical standpoint at seeing what it takes for the humans on the defense to stop the running back, and the offensive line that are blocking for him, it is an extremely physical experience that takes a toll over the course of the game on the defense, making them tired and not as effective. While not as spectacular are passing, the rushing attack is actually the most important, and effective offensive strategy to utilizie in order to gain the upper hand overall. One can witness this in games where the team that is effectively running the ball will start to break away in the score in the late 3rd quarter, or early 4th quarter.

Love this comment. As someone new to the game... I noticed this but couldn't understand why one team just looked so explosive and fancy with their pass play... while the other team's attack was focused on gain ground, like a grind... Something like the recent game between the chiefs and the bills.

@@elvan12581 exactly! If you are really interested to see the system put to test and see the results, you can look for Alabama football games from 2010-2015. This is at the university level, but the basics are easier to identify here. Alabama usually had offensive linemen that were top rated, and also over 300lb (140kg range for the metric system users out there) there are typically 5 offensive Linemen, to only 4 defensive linemen. The d-line stature is usually of the same Weight; but they are usually not as tall. A typical offensive lineman usually weighs 300-350lb, and stands 6’-4”-6’-7” (apologies for my American imperial system numbers, I am petitioning to get us to use the metric system but I fear they don’t listen to people like me lol) The reason that I love American football so much is because of how much the strategy relates to real war. Endurance, size matchups, speed mismatches, sturdy front lines…

@@elvan12581 perfectly stated as “a grind” that’s exactly what the intent is. To grind away at the oppositions defensive productivity from a physical energy standpoint. Sort of like how FC Barca used the possession game To tire our opponents back in the day.

Excellent video my friend. I am so happy to see people from other countries truly appreciate American Football for the strategic sport that it is. I think that something else to note on the strategies and formulations of the offense/defense structures of command, and to further emphasize the strategic component that makes the sport so fascinating, is the command structure, and game planning of the Head Coach. The head coach is like the 5 star General of the team, his offensive, and defensive coordinators are like his brigadier generals, the Quarterback is like the on field captain for the offense, but something that is often overlooked, is that the defense also has an on field captain, and usually this person is the middle linebacker, or one of the safeties as they are able to see the formations that the offense is posing, and are able to reposition the defense to better counter what the offense is trying to achieve.

I do have one question though- I also am playing Madden and notice with the plays there is usually one arrow that is red, what does that mean? I can figure it out with the running plays, but with the pass plays I'm a little confused. Thanks so much!

Nice set of videos. You explained everything but why don't the players on the offence keep passing the ball to the players who are open on their team multiple times? Are they not allowed to do that?

They can only do one forward pass on every play

On a normal play, the QB can only pass the ball forward to the open reciever. However, the QB can also pass the ball laterally (behind the line of scrimmage) and the reciever “can” pass the ball forward to another reciever running a route…. this is usually done as a trick play to confuse the defense….

That's as cool as the offence guy to the defence guy on him: I crush you little man, being like: Catch me if you can...gooood luck! #cyberpunkcoltoure Take it as game of positions and the head is passing on the initiative savely. Even so difficult, the best teams win by passings from receiver to receiver avoiding ball loss, close to Rugby which is the Grand Pa, but way less aggressive. #provos

Before every play, the offense decides what the play will be. This decision involves: a) whether it will be a run or a pass b) if it’s a run, where the running back will be running from c) if it’s a pass, where the receivers will run to try and get open d) what formation the offense will start from When the offense has decided on a play, the coaches will “call” the play to the quarterback through his headset. So, the “playcall” is just the name for the play that the coaches or the quarterback tell the team to do. Here’s a link if you want to learn more. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Play_calling_system

The quarterback can keep the ball and run, he can hand it off to his running back, or he can throw the ball down the field to one of his receivers

Yes. The quarterback can also run the ball. They become more prone to getting hit or tackled as he becomes the ball carrier.

In Kickoff. When they kick the ball and the opposing team didn't catch the ball, what yards are they gonna start??? And in Kickoff. When they kick the ball and the opposing team catch the ball in their own Endzone. What gonna happen? is it safety?

1. If they didn't catch then they start from the position where ball stopped. 2. If they catch in end zone then they have 2 choices a. Kneel down in end zone after catch and then they can start from 35 yard b. catch the ball and run, if they run the game will resume from the point where tackle is done.

@@Rusty_Gold85 They only have 4 chances to move 10 yards, if they can't do it then opponent gets the ball from the place where they completed 4th chance (4th down). Typically if a team is near their own touchdown then they risk giving ball to opponents closer to touchdown zone so they kick it in the 4th attempt so that ball goes far away form their touchdown zone. They will not kick in the first 3 downs, generally they do it in 4th. Does that help?

Actually if the ball is still in bounds the kicking team can recover it. If the ball is kicked out of the end zone, the ball will start on the 20 yard line. If it’s kicked out of bounds before it reaches the end zone, the receiving team will start at the 35yard line

Fullback/halfback is a dying position in the NFL…. They are typically bigger than the runningback… their main job is basically a battering ram for the running back. They can also be used as a “runningback” for short yard running play, or short passing playing…. Fullbacks are best used at a goal line scoring position on a running play…. The offensive line will try to create a running lane, the fullback will take on the defender who tries to blitz through the running lane in an attempt to stop the running back from scoring…
