Football racism: Outrage as Spurs fans warned three times over 'racist abuse'

It is calling on the government to open an inquiry.

Still 0 proof. Only proof I’ve seen is that this same player made the EXACT SAME accusation in 2017 vs Roma.. Also no evidence or witnesses in that case so it was dropped. It would seem we have another Jessie Smollet (blacks lying about racism) case.

Giving them warnings just gives them chances to continue until they are permanently banned, it's a global issue and an adult know it's wrong. Footballers are working, the fans come to see them work. Nobody goes to work to be racially abused.

Suspend the match, punish the crowds by continuing the games behind closed doors(empty stadiums). That would make the innocent members of the audience single the racists out because they won't want to miss more games because of some assholes. But they wouldn't dare to lose some ticket sales for that.

Nobody even knows what these "racist gestures" were, and I believe he was the only one to report it. Did they flip them off? Is flipping someone off racist? I don't get it. Any form of racism is absolutely disgusting and despicable. Thank God my parents never brought my brother, my sister or me up that way. I am in my early 70s now, and I truly do not understand hate. My older brother, dad, and mom passed away 29 years ago. I miss them terribly even to this day. He was the best brother anyone could ever of had and my parents were absolutely the kindest most loving people anyone could ever have for parents. I have been extremely lucky in that sense. 👍🙏☺

After investigation none of the allegations were proved. As much as Racism is a serious issue, players who falsely alleges these incidents should be punished as well. Any fans caught in the act should be banned from all games for life as well.

Misleading title Sky. Three announcements were made for one alleged incident. That's the FA protocol. It was ONE Spurs fan, not 'fans'. Additionally, Son was alleged to have been abused by a Chelsea fan too. Get it right Sky.

Yet the only arrest so far is a Chelsea fan for aggravated racism towards Son, Chelsea have a history of racism. Before decrying the Spurs fans maybe people should wait for evidence apart from the words of players on a pitch surrounded by noise. Good point -- these knee jerk reactions by media pundits are almost bordering on ridiculous. A player hears someone cough in the 5th tier of a stand, determines it's specifically being directed at his sensibilities and then demands the whole game is abandoned. I used to work in stadiums. The issue is that customers come in wanting to have a good time and generally get rowdy in large groups. They are probably good people at work, they pay their taxes and help the old lady with her groceries. In the stadium people just become different people. The problem is with behaviour. If we can just all go enjoy the beautiful support and maintain respect for our neighbours that would be excellent.

I think it's great that they stopped the game. It will make the non-racist fans (which are mostly majority in every club) realize that these abuses happen and they should collectively try to discourage anyone from attempting to do it. In addition, I would feel very ashamed if I attended a match for my favorite team and that announcement came up. I will start asking for actions from my club's management and any fans associations to stop these actions. Many people don't know these things exist unless the officials point everyone towards them.

There are 1000s of cameras in the stadium, yet they never found evidence of anyone chanting or shouting anything racist. In reality, Rudiger probably got confused and misheard. English isn't his first language. With the amount of cameras, audio recordings and 40,000 smart phones, it's overwhelming likely if someone was shouting something they'd have been identified and prosecuted.

I was there at that game and i could just have missed it but i sat pretty close to the pitch and to the side that he was playing on and i didn't see any racist gestures, people booed at him because he dived so son got a red card but nothing more than that from what i saw.

Ryan Campbell all the reports I’ve read say that there were several incidents that day. One incident Spurs fans heard other Spurs fans making racist comments. Those comments were reported to the stewards and those fans were asked to leave.
