Some context: Israeli politics divides right-left on two topics: safety(what should happen to the Palestinians) and economy. In the safety debate, the far right(mostly conservatives and ultra-religious settlers in the West Bank) wants ALL the land to itself, mostly for religious reasons(there is apparently a religious law preventing anyone from “giving land of Israel to other people”). The left doesn’t care much about land, and thinks there should be a country of Palestine, but for now is afraid of the idea of a Palestinian state 20 km from Tel Aviv. There is also a problem with stability in the Palestinian cities in the West Bank. They are really poor and gang crime is everywhere(Palestinians killing Palestinians), and if they form a country with this situation, it probably won’t survive that long before becoming too reliant on some bigger (potentially anti-Israeli)Islamist state helping them economically, and lose a lot of their independence AND potentially become a threat to Israel’s existence. But in the long run, the left in Israel DOES want to see a successful and friendly Palestinian state.
